Harry’s POV:
“Welcome, my children. In this room, you shall explore the mysterious art of Divination. In this room, you shall discover if you possess…” A crimson scrim flutters and Professor Trelawney, Divination Professor, speaks dramatically, eyes huge and bug-like behind enormous glasses. “... the Sight. Hello. I am Professor Trelawney. Together, we shall cast ourselves into the future. But know this. One either has the Gift or not. It cannot be divined from the pages of a book. Books only cloud one's Inner Eye.”
Whispering under her breath, “What rubbish.” Ron spins. Frowns at Hermione.
“Where'd you come from?”
“Me? I've been here all along.”
Professor Trelawney spins to Neville. “You, boy! Is your grandmother well?”
“I... I think so.”
“I wouldn't be so sure of that.” She turns her head to the rest of the class. “The first term will be devoted to the reading of tea leaves. If all goes well, we will proceed to palmistry, fire omens, and finally... the crystal ball.” She started eyeing Parvati. “By the way, dear, beware a red haired man.”
I turned to Parvati and she seemed confused. I then looked at Ron as he was the only red haired person in the class, but obviously it’s not him, right? I guess she had the same idea because Parvati eyes Ron dubiously. Edges her pouffe away.
“Unfortunately, classes will be disrupted in February by a nasty bout of flu. I myself will lose my voice. And in late spring, one of our number will... leave us forever.”
We all exchanges uneasy glances as Trelawney smiles brightly
“Well then, shall we?”
I didn’t really pay attention for the rest of class, I was just trying to get on with it. It wasn’t until we finally were about to be done that I finally paid attention.
“What do you see in Mr. Potter's cup, Mr. Weasley?”
My attention was now on Ron.
“Well. He's got a wonky sort of cross -- that's trials and suffering. But this lot here could be the sun -- that's great happiness. So... he's going to suffer but be very happy about it. “
Professor Trelawney takes the cup, peers inside, and gasps, dropping the cup on the table.
“What is it, Professor?” Parvati asked.
Trelawney regards me with a mixture of pity and fear.
“My dear boy... You have the Grim.”
I was confused but Seamus spoke before I had the chance. “The Grin? What's the Grin?”
Nevermind, he wasn’t listening, I was about to speak again but this time Parvati spoke. “The Grim. Not the grin, you idiot.”
Now, again, I was about to speak but I got spoken over but this time by Dean. “But what does it mean, Professor?”
Finally, someone who can actually ask for me.
“The Grim…”All turn, see some random kid bent over her textbook. “'Taking the form of a giant spectral dog, it is among the darkest omens in our world. It is an omen... of death.'”
I quickly peer into my cup. The tea leaves shift. The dog disappears. And a new image emerges slowly... Sirius Black.
Once the class was dismissed, we all walked to Remington and Draco’s class.
“Death omens. Honestly. If you ask me, Divination's a very wooly discipline. Now Ancient Runes. That's a fascinating subject.” Hermione ranted.
“Ancient Runes? Exactly how many classes are you taking this term?” Ron asked.
“A fair few.”
“Hang on. Ancient Runes is the same time as Divination. You'd have to be in two classes at once.”
I wasn’t really paying attention. I was too focused on what I saw in my tea cup.
“Don't be silly. How could anyone be in two classes at once?” She started mimicking Trelawney. “Broaden your minds…”
We finally made it to their class when Draco walked out. I wasn’t really paying attention until I felt Draco grab my hand. I looked at him and smiled softly.
“What’s wrong? You seem…out of it.”
“Something from last class. I’m okay though. How was your class?”
“It was okay. Didn’t really learn much.”
I smiled was we started walking to our next class together. Once we got inside. Lupin was standing with all the desks out of the room and a bunch of different creatures in the middle. Andy was nowhere to be seen.
“Hello, welcome-”
“Where's Andy?” Remington asked out loud.
“He's in his office…not feeling well.” Lupin spoke, making the last part sound as if he’s hinting at something.
“I'll be back.” Remington whispered to us before running up the stairs and to Andy's office. I turn back to the group and shrug when they motion to Remington.
The class went pretty good for our first class with Lupin. He wasn't pushy and he seemed to know what was going on. My mind kept wandering to Remington though. He didn't end up coming back to class, even when the class was over he was nowhere to be seen.
