"Irwin speaking." Ashton answered the phone, already laughing at himself.

"You're such a dork." I giggled into the phone, actually finding what Ashton had said funnier than I shove have.

"What's up, babyyyy." Ashton continued laughing, and for a second I was sure that Ashton was drunk. It was only 12:30 in the afternoon and I had just woken up myself, there was no way that Ashton could be this energetic so early in the day.

"What's up with you?" I asked.

"Nothing's up. I'm just laying in bed...thinking about my girlfriend..." Ashton trailed off. I wasn't sure exactly how he was thinking of me, so I didn't ask about that. Either way, I felt my cheeks heat up at both the way he called me his girlfriend and how he said he was thinking about me. Ashton and I had been dating for a while now, but I still wasn't completely used to this.

"You seem oddly happy today." I stated, still wondering if Ashton was drunk or not. Once you got to know Ashton he really was a generally happy person, but not normally as happy as this.

"It's the presence of my girlfriend, A.K.A you." Ashton sighed. "I can feel it from all the way down the block."

"Presence? We're on the phone." I laughed.

"Your hotness is, like, radiating through the phone." Ashton said, suddenly sounding out of breath. I heard a thud on the other side of the phone and let out a sigh, waiting for Ashton to come back. He laughed, "I just dropped my phone, sorry."

"Right." I said, nodding even though I knew Ashton couldn't see me.

"So what's up? Why did you call?" Ashton asked. He still sounded overly-happy, but at least he was able to have a normal conversation with me now.

"I just wanted to say hi." I said. "And I need to ask you something."

"Ooh, you have to ask me something?" Ashton sounded excited, desperately waiting for me to ask whatever I had to.

"Do you want to come over for dinner tonight?" I asked. I knew that I should have talked to Ashton about this earlier, I had all week to ask if he would join my parents and I for dinner tonight, but I put it off as usual. I wasn't scared so much about asking Ashton to come over as I was about the night actually happening. I was hoping that my mom wouldn't go completely crazy on Ashton, but I had no way to control if she did or not.

"Dinner..." Ashton trailed off. I could hear him moving around through the phone, and I gave him a second to get himself situated to see if he was going to say anything else. "Is this like, eating Mexican food on the couch and making out dinner or - or dinner, dinner?"

"What exactly is 'dinner, dinner'?" I asked.

"The meet your parents dinner." Ashton said, letting out a small groan.

"Yeah, it's that." I sighed, wishing that tonight could be a 'eating Mexican food on the couch an making out' dinner instead.

"Fuck." Ashton swore.

"My dad wants to meet you." I said.

"The same dad that chased me down the street after he caught me kissing you?" Ashton asked.

"Well, that's the only one." I laughed.

"You're so cute." Ashton muttered, sounding like he was looking for something. Sometimes his voice would be louder and other times it would be softer, like he kept moving the phone around. "Yeah, I'll come over tonight."

"Will you really?" I asked.

"Of course, do you want me to wear and suit and tie and everything? You know, I'll impress your snobby mom." Ashton laughed, "Oops, did I say that out loud?"

"You don't need to wear a suit," I said, laughing at Ashton's comment about my mother. I completely agreed with him, he didn't need to apologize.

"Good, because I don't own one." Ashton let out a sigh of relief, followed by a few more loud bangs from wherever he was. "Oh my God, can you hear that noise?"

"The banging?" I asked, nodding to myself. "Yeah."

"I think it's coming from Michael's room. He sounds like he's rearranged the furniture." Ashton laughed loudly, and I began to wonder if Michael was actually silently fucking his friend Sarah with Ashton right next door.

"Because I'm sure that's exactly what he does in his free time." I said, rolling my eyes.

"What are you wearing tonight?" Ashton asked, suddenly changing the subject.

"I don't know," I shrugged. "Probably a dress."

"Fuck." Ashton swore again, a lot louder this time.

"What's wrong?" I asked.

"I love when you wear dresses. What if I get a boner and your parents are, like, right there?" Ashton asked, and I realized that he was completely serious.

"Ashton!" I laughed, "Stop it."

"It's a very good question to ask. This is a big deal, Murphy, I'd rather that your parents don't see me all hard for their daughter." Ashton sighed. My face heated up again when Ashton talked like that, it made me realize that Ashton actually put thought into things like this. While I was worried about what I was going to wear or say, Ashton was worried about getting a boner.

"Okay, I'll just wear a big garbage bag over my whole body, will that make it better?" I asked.

"Nope. Just wear a dress." Ashton said quickly, making up his mind. "Even thought you'd still look great no matter what you wear."

"Okay, okay, I'll wear a dress." I laughed.

"Alright, I'll try to restrain myself from fucking you right on the dinner table." Ashton said in a low voice, sending shivers up my spine.

"Ashton!" I laughed again.

"That's right baby, say my name." Ashton joked, unable to hold back his laughter any longer. I don't think Ashton would ever be able to act serious in a situation like that, he seemed to laugh after every little thing.

"What is wrong with you today?" I asked, still laughing at what Ashton had said a few seconds before.

"Honestly," Ashton paused, "I'm pretty horny."

"Of course you are." I groaned.

"I'm just being honest." Ashton said innocently, like a little kid trying to get out of trouble.

"Too honest." I sighed.

"A relationship is nothing without honesty." Ashton responded simply, nothing more too it. I swallowed hard, remembering that I hadn't been entirely honest with Ashton lately.

I heard another loud noise through the phone and I could tell that Ashton did too, because he swore once again. He sounded so frustrated, even though it was hard to tell why. He could always just go over to Michael's room and find out what was going on himself, I would love to be on the phone to hear that happen.

"He's being so loud." Ashton sighed again. "Anyway, I'm going to go now. I'll be over later tonight for dinner, okay? Text me in a little bit."

"Okay, I'll see you tonight." I said, beginning to take the phone away from my ear.

"Dani - " Ashton said loudly, like he knew that I was almost gone.

"Yeah?" I asked, putting the phone back to my ear. I could hear Ashton breathing on the other end, slow and steady.

"I - Nevermind, I'll see you later." Ashton said, then hung up the phone without waiting for me to say anything more.

-

Ashton showed up at my house a little after 7 o'clock, which was the time I had texted him and told him to come over. From the amount of texts Ashton had sent me throughout the day, I could tell he was nervous, and I knew I was too. It was apparently a big deal, meeting your girlfriend's parents, and an even bigger deal when it was my parents.

I pulled open the door to find Ashton standing on my porch, desperately trying to finish a cigarette. He was staring down at the ground, his hair covering up his eyes. He looked really nice, actually, wearing a black button up shirt and one of his nicer pairs of skinny jeans, with short black boots instead of the converse he usually wore.

"Hi." Ashton said, finally looking up at me. He held out his cigarette, "Do you want some?"

"No, not now." I shook my head, knowing that if my parents smelled even a little bit of smoke on me they would both freak out.

"You sure?" Ashton asked, bringing it to his lips again. He was wearing a pair of glasses, too, they were black with thick frames. This was the first time he had worn them, I wasn't even sure if he really needed them.

I nodded, "What are you wearing?"

"Pants?" Ashton questioned, furrowing his eyebrows at me.

"I mean on your face." I laughed, realizing that I hadn't done a very good job of asking my question.

"Oh, my glasses." Ashton chuckled. He took one last drag from his cigarette, exhaling again before letting it fall to the ground. He stepped on it and crushed it under his foot before kicking it away, like he was erasing everything.

"You wear glasses?" I asked.

"Usually I have contacts, but I accidentally threw away one this morning and I don't get new ones for another week." Ashton explained.

"I didn't know you needed contacts." I smirked, wondering why Ashton hadn't told me. I grabbed his hand and dragged him into the house as he pulled out a few pieces of gum from his back pocket, shoving them into his mouth.

"I think that I'm, like, legally blind." Ashton snickered, quickly chewing up his gum. "If I didn't have contacts I'd probably get run over by a car the second I leave my house."

"Well thank God for contacts." I said, biting my lip.

"You look so pretty." Ashton blushed, looking me up and down. I honestly wasn't dressed any more special than I would have dressed for school, I had just cleaned myself up a little.

"Thanks, so do you." I said, before realizing how dumb that sounded.

"Aw, I love being called pretty." Ashton said, letting out a quiet laugh. He continued to furiously chew his gum, making sure that no one would be able to smell the nicotine on his breath.

"Shut up." I groaned.

"Ooh, so sassy." Ashton smirked. He held out his hands and grabbed my waist, pulling me closer to him.

"Shut up." I repeated, glancing down at the floor. Ashton brought his hand to the bottom of my chin and titled it up, forcing me to look him in the eyes.

"Come here," Ashton mumbled, closing the space between us. Soon enough his lips were on my neck, working their way down.

"Ashton..." I trailed off, getting distracted. "...my parents."

"This won't take long." Ashton whispered, his breath got against my skin. "God, you look so good."

"Stop it." I said, trying to push him away. I was all for making out with Ashton right here, right now, but I was too worried about my parents walking in on us to actually enjoy myself. We were right in the front foyer, they could pass by at any minute. Ashton whined and pulled me closer, his lips gently sucking on the skin just below my earlobe.

"Honestly, I love the dress, but I think I'm gonna love taking it off of you even more." Ashton whispered huskily, his hands trailing down my back and over my butt, finally resting at the spot on my legs where my dress ended. His fingers curled around the edge of the fabric as he began to lift it up, little by little, while he still continued to kiss my neck. Being touched by him like that and having him say those things to me sent chills down my spine, and I didn't want him to stop - ever.

"Not now." I groaned. I wanted to do this, really badly, but we just couldn't right now. It was too risky, and I couldn't take any chances by doing something like this with Ashton while my parents were literally a few rooms away from us.

I pushed Ashton away from me just in time, because suddenly my mom was at the top of the stairs, staring down at the two of us as she descended. Ashton backed away from me, his cheeks tinting pink as he realized what he had just been doing.

"Danielle, you should have told me that he was here." My mom said, now at the bottom of the stairs. Thankfully I don't think she had seen anything that was happening between Ashton and I before she showed up.

"I was just about to, Mom." I groaned, "Ashton just got here."

"Well, hello Ashton." She said, walking passed us.

"Hello, Mrs. Murphy. How are you tonight?" Ashton greeted her. He outstretched a hand in case she wanted to shake it, but she didn't.

"Oh, just wonderful." My mom said sarcastically. I could tell that she would rather be doing anything but this right now. "Danielle, your father will be down in a minute. Come sit at the table."

"Are you nervous?" I whispered to Ashton as we walked behind my mother into the dining room.

"More than nervous." Ashton chuckled under his breath. He took my hand in his and gave it a small squeeze, smiling down at me.

"Do they have a word for that?" I asked.

"Terrified." Ashton replied, nodding.

I nodded, agreeing that it was the right word to use. "Alright, I'm terrified."

-

"So Ashton, you live down the block, yes?" My dad asked.

We hadn't been sitting down at the table for very long, but so far things were going pretty well. My dad was enjoying himself talking while talking to Ashton, he actually seemed interested. I honestly wasn't sure if it was just him being a good parent by asking all of these questions or if my dad genuinely liked Ashton. My mom ha stayed silent for all of dinner, and I had only been able to say a few words as well. But that was fine, because as long as my mother didn't try to start anything I would be okay.

"Yes sir, the last house at the end of the street." Ashton nodded. He took a bite of his pasta, that my mom had actually ordered from this restaurant down town. Neither of my parents liked to cook or had the time, so usually we would order something to eat and go pick it up for dinner.

"The small one." My mom added from across the table. She looked away from me as I glared at her, like she was pretending she hadn't said anything.

"Mom." I said sternly.

"And you're in Dani's grade, correct? You're a senior." My dad continued. I could tell that he was going to interrogate Ashton all night, just to find out if there was anything wrong with him. He wouldn't find anything, though, and even if he did that wouldn't change anything. It sounded extremely cheesy, but Ashton was always perfect to me.

"Yes I am, sir." Ashton said, slowly moving his hand until it rested on top of my thigh. He looked over at me and smirked, knowing exactly what he was doing.

"Any plans for college?" My dad's head shot up again as he asked yet another question, staring back at Ashton, who quickly took his hand away from me.

"I, uh, I know what I want to study, but I haven't actually applied for any colleges yet." Ashton stammered, not being prepared to answer my dad for what felt like the hundredth time.

"And why is that?" My mom spoke up once again, her voice sounding cold and unenthusiastic.

"Mom." I repeated, trying to resist the urge to kick her under the table.

"I haven't found the time or - or money, ma'am." Ashton answered slowly, swallowing hard.

"What do you want to study?" I looked over at Ashton, trying to direct everyone's attention away from my mom. It really should be the other way around, and I couldn't believe how immature my own mother was acting right now.

"Music history." Ashton smiled back at me. I nodded, Ashton and I had never talked about college or what we both wanted to do when we were older, there ws always something else on our minds.

"You like music, Ashton?" My dad asked.

"Oh, yes. I love music." Ashton nodded furiously, already getting excited. I almost groaned, once Ashton got started with talking about he sometimes couldn't stop, and I felt like this would force us to be at the table for even longer.

"What's your favorite band?" My dad questioned, almost excitedly. I happened to know that my father actually had a pretty good music taste, despite how hard he tried to hide it.

"Um, well, I love a lot of bands. But if I had to choose it would definitely be The Killers, sir." Ashton answered. I laughed out loud at the fact that he kept referring to my dad as "sir", even though when they first met he had told Ashton to just call him by his first name.

"Ah, I've heard of them, actually." My dad nodded. "The company I work for was giving out free tickets to the employees for one of their concerts about a year and a half ago. I didn't go, of course, I'm not much of a concert person."

"I was probably at that same concert, sir. I took my ex-girlfriend there, although she didn't enjoy herself very much." Ashton laughed quietly. He glanced down at his plate, which had almost no food left on it.

"She wasn't a fan, huh?" My dad chuckled. He knew about Kenzie's death, everyone apparently did. I knew my dad though, and he wasn't going to bring up anything that would make Ashton uncomfortable.

"No sir, she didn't like any of the music that I tried to get her into." Ashton laughed again, but I could tell that he was nervous.

"Oh, speaking of your ex-girlfriend, how long were you two dating?" My mother asked, setting down her fork. She was clearly done with dinner now too, and was now interested in causing problems.

"Mom." I almost shouted, not believing that she was doing this.

"Three - three years, ma'am." Ashton stuttered. He put his hand on my thigh again, but this time it wasn't to tease me, I think it was to comfort himself more than anything. He chewed on his bottom lip as he nodded, awaiting my mother's response.

"Three years is certainly a long time, it's a shame what happened to her." My mom sighed, leaning back in her chair.

"Uh huh." Ashton said, just barely a whisper.

"Mom." I spoke, trying to stop her from saying anything more. Ashton gave my thigh a squeeze, forcing me to look up at him.

"It's fine." He whispered.

"You were in the car accident that killed her, were you not?" My mom questioned. She had a devious smile on her face, as if she found this whole situation just hilarious.

"Mom, what are you doing?" I asked, and Ashton shushed me again.

"Samantha I don't know if you should - " My father stepped in, but he was cut off.

"I'm just asking a simple question. I'm a little curious, that's all." My mom defended herself, looking hurt at the fact that no one was letting her say what she wanted.

"I was driving the car, yes." Ashton spoke up, answering my mom's question even though he really shouldn't have.

"Weren't you drunk?" My mother asked, "That's what I read when they did a story on it for the papers, I'm surprised you didn't get into any trouble."

"I was drunk, we both were, and so was the driver in the other car." Ashton nodded slowly, adding, "But I understand that it was a mistake, and I would never do anything like that again."

"See, this is what I don't understand about teenagers. You tell them their whole lives that they can't drink and drive, and they have to kill someone to actually see the consequences." My mom rolled her eyes, examining her fingernails.

"Mom!" I shouted, standing up from the table.

"I didn't - " Ashton shook his head, looking around the room. He sat there with his mouth open like he was about to say something, but couldn't find the right words. He looked more hurt than angry, and that's what I hated. Ashton finally stood up, not bothering to push his chair in as he left the room. "Excuse me."

"What the hell is wrong with you?" I yelled at my mom, "Why would you say something like that to him?"

"I was just wondering." She said, shrugging.

"That's fucking sick, Mom, he didn't deserve any of that. I understand that you have some grudge against what he did but you need to get it through your head that what happened was in the past, and things are different now. He made a mistake, Mom, and there's nothing wrong with him." I shouted. I was trying hard not to completely blow up in her face, but I was afraid that I already had.

"You can't blame me for being worried about it, Danielle." My mom said, trying to reason with me somehow.

"Being worried and being extremity rude to my boyfriend are two very different things! I understand that you're concerned about some of the choices that Ashton's made but that doesn't need to change how you view him. And it certainly doesn't mean that you can go around trying to influence my decision of dating him. He's an amazing person and he makes me feel better than I ever have before so I suggest that you just stay out of my business and leave us the fuck alone." I said quickly before turning away from my mom and heading out of the room, not wanting to hear anything else that she had to say.

I stomped up the stairs and headed to my room, not bothering to go look for Ashton. I assumed that he had left while I was yelling at my mom, and probably wouldn't be coming back here for a very long time. I felt awful, I should have never invited Ashton over tonight, everything just turned out wrong. I opened the door to my room and was surprised to see Ashton in there, pacing back and forth in front of my bed.

"You're still here!" I gasped, stopping in my tracks.

"I'm so sorry, Dani. I tried, I really did, I tried so hard to get on your moms good side, I'm so sorry." Ashton rambled on, coming towards me. He cupped the sides of my face in his hands, running his thumbs over my cheeks.

"It's not your fault, I'm sorry for even inviting you over in the first place, I did not think that was going to happen." I sighed.

"I'm so sorry, baby, that wasn't supposed to happen at all. I just want your mom to like me as much as I like you." Ashton apologized once again, although none of this was his fault.

"You need to stop saying sorry." I said, standing up on my tip toes and kissing Ashton quickly on the lips. "This wasn't your fault at all. I'm sorry that my mom treated you like that."

"Dani, I'm - " Ashton stopped himself, realizing that he was about to apologize again. He grabbed both of my hands in his and backed us up to the edge of my bed, where he then sat down and brought me with him. He wrapped his arms around my waist from behind and had me sit on his lap, moving my hair to the side so he could rest his chin on my shoulder.

"You didn't deserve for her to say that, Ashton." I sighed.

"It's fine, that's how a lot of people felt about the whole accident." Ashton said quietly. He pressed his lips to my shoulder, leaving small kisses in a line trailing up my neck.

"It's not fine, she had no right to do that." I said, shaking my head.

"It wasn't a big deal, I've had worse said about me. I'll get over it, I promise." Ashton said, sucking gently at my skin. His grip around my waist loosened until I was able to turn around all the way, now straddling him. Ashton's eyes got wide as I positioned myself on top of him, and I let out a small giggle at how cute he looked with his glasses on.

"Don't you giggle at me, Murphy." Ashton pouted, leaning in once more. He brought his lips to mine, kissing me slowly for a few seconds before hesitantly pulling away.

"I can't help it, you look so cute with your little glasses." I laughed, grabbing the sides of Ashton's glasses and wiggling them up and down for a second. He rolled his eyes at me, begging me to stop.

"Stop it." Ashton blushed once again, glancing down at his lap.

"Do you promise that you aren't upset about what happened tonight?" I asked suddenly, the thought just coming to my mind.

"I promise, I'm not upset. My feelings are hurt more than anything, but I'll get over it." Ashton nodded.

"I just feel so bad." I sighed, bringing my hands up to Ashton's chest. My hands found their way to the buttons of his shirt, and I began to wonder what he would do if I just started undoing them without any warning.

"Don't feel bad about it, please." Ashton pleaded. I undid the first button of Ashton's shirt, and he didn't do anything.

"I don't think any different of you because of what happened, you know that, right?" I asked. Ashton's hands moved to my thighs again, right where my dress was hiking up from the way I was sitting on Ashton's lap.

"I know, and I really hope you don't. It was a big mistake, and I know now. I really regret it, it ruined too many things for me." Ashton said. I slowly unbuttoned the next one and Ashton flinched, finally realizing just what I was doing to him.

"I'll still like you no matter what happens." I kissed at Ashton's jawline, then moved down his neck, and then to the parts of his chest that I had exposed with the unbuttoning. "I'll always like you."

"I really like you." Ashton breathed out, his hands trailing farther up my legs.

"I really like you, too." I smiled, undoing another button and continuing to kiss down Ashton's chest. "I really like you."

"Do you have any idea what you're doing to me?" Ashton whispered, his mouth right next to my ear. He began to kiss me there again, right where my neck met my jaw. His hands continued to snake their way up my dress, but I wasn't planning on stopping him any time soon.

"Ash - " I began to say, but stopped myself when I heard my phone vibrating on my bedside table. I ignored it, and so did Ashton, because what was happening now was much more important. The vibrating stopped after a few more seconds, and I figured that whoever was trying to call me had just left a voicemail.

"Wow, say that again." Ashton said, letting out a low groan. His teeth tugged at my skin, definitely leaving some type of mark on me.

"Ash," I whispered, and moved so my lips were just hovering above his now.

"Mmm," Ashton hummed, and just as I was about to finally bring out lips together, my phone started to ring again.

I tried to ignore it, but whoever was calling already seemed very persistent, and they would probably call all night until they got a response of some sort from me.

"Just go answer it." Ashton whispered, his nose brushing against mine. I kissed Ashton's lips for another short second before climbing off of him, pulling my dress back down as I walked over to my bedside table and grabbed my phone.

"Hello?" I asked, already knowing who it was.

"I'm still a virgin!" Michael yelled into the phone, and I took a few steps back from Ashton his in case he could hear a little of what was coming from my phone.

"Can you call back later?" I asked, "I'm in the middle of something."

"I'm still a virgin. Why the fuck am I still a virgin?" Michael questioned, sounding panicked.

"I'm wondering the same thing." I laughed for a second, looking at Ashton, who's back was to me.

"Help me."

"I can't right now."

"Help me!"

"Later, I'm with Ashton."

"Oh, so that's what you're in the middle of." Michael laughed. He changed the tone of his voice, trying to imitate me this time. "Oh, Ashton, harder! Don't stop!"

"Can I call you back tomorrow or something?" I begged, afraid that if we talked any longer Ashton would get suspicious. "I really need to go."

"Christmas is in, like, a week and a half, tell me what you want!" Michael demanded quickly, like he was scared that I would hang up on him before he could get his sentence out.

"For you to call back later." I said, and ended the call. I saw that I had a few new texts from before Michael had called, and I quickly opened them just to see what they said. Of course they were all from Michael, for a boy who didn't like to talk he was sure texting a lot.

I'm still a virgin

Why can't I talk to girls

Dani

I sighed and set my phone down again and walked around to Ashton, who was leaning back on my bed with a pleased look on his face.

"Who was that?" He asked, cocking his head to the side.

I thought for a second about telling Ashton who it actually was, but then decided against it. There was too much drama tonight already, I didn't need to start any more. I panicked. "It was Luke, he's been trying to talk to me about something all week. I just told him to call back later, though."

"He - he - what does he want to talk to you about?" Ashton asked, suddenly sitting up straight.

"I'm not sure, he'll probably just complain about Brooke again." I lied, though I did think that that's what Luke wanted to talk to me about, there really couldn't be anything else.

"Oh, yeah I bet he will." Ashton said, smiling at me. He held out his arms again, inviting me to come back. I happily obliged to that and sat down on Ashton's lap once again, still facing him.

"I believe we were in the middle of something, weren't we, Irwin?" I asked, brushing a few strands of hair off of my shoulder before wrapping my arms around Ashton's neck. His hands found their new favorite spot under my dress again, and he began to tease me by sticking his fingers under the hem of my underwear.

"Oh yes, Murphy, we definitely were." Ashton smiled and connected his lips to mine, kissing me hungrily as we fell back onto my bed, where we hopefully wouldn't be interrupted again for the rest of the night.
