Nicole seemed to force herself to be okay with it...for my sake, I'm assuming. Not only am I dying, but I'm dying in a chlorine smelling loud ass hospital. At least it's a giant one.
I'm on the floor where all the cancer patients are. And sadly where a lot of cancer kids are.
Yeah, screw you too, cancer.
I laid in my surprisingly comfortable hospital bed, the room was mostly white, things I don't know the names of such as Doctor tools and wires all around me.
They put two things, tubes, up both of my nostrils to "help me breath" yeah sure okay fine whatever.
Nicole went out to get food or something, so I just laid there; drowning in my own self pity and sadness. Not to mention the annoying nurse coming in every 22 seconds and asking "how are you?"
The T.V in the room was playing quietly in the background of my thinking, the sound of the random bursts of audience laughter or a Geico commercial.
Did you know that fifteen minutes could save you fifteen percent or more on your car insurance?
The buzzing from the machine pumping air into my nose was a strange and uncomfortable feeling. The feeling of hospital hospital gown sticking to my legs from the materiel.
The sound of the occasional parent and child going past my door...laughing.
And I sat in there. Waiting for my inevitable short death with a green lizard telling me to buy car insurance as the only thing I can hear...what a great way to live the rest of your life.
Speaking of the previously mentioned nurse...
"Come in" I responded to the two knocks I'd received on the door. Least she had the curtesy to knock this time.
The handle twisted open and the now opened door didn't reveal an annoying or uptight nurse or doctor, but revealed Daniel.
"Oh, hey Wendy Williams. Welcome to my mansion." I said as I made eyecontact with me.
"How you doin?" He said in his impression, I chuckled as he walked inside, taking a seat in the plastic black chair which was pressed up against the wall next to the door.
"Yeah, not so good." I mumbled. For once, when he smiled it didn't look like a pity smile. It just looked like a smile with no emotion behind it. I couldn't tell.
"No, you're living. They have like the biggest elevators here. Be grateful." He said sarcastically. I laughed genuinely for the first time that day.
"Okay, when the nurse comes in, I guarantee you she will ask 'how are you?' To me and then she'll introduce herself with her full name and current state of marriage to you. That's what she did to me and Nicole."
I said as I heard her plastic heels approaching the door. Don't ask me why she isn't wearing sneakers I won't know.
"Well, hey. How are you doing?" Polly asked as she walked inside. Her red lipstick smudged below her lip and her dried out dyed red hair in a pony tail.
"I'm doing great...as I have been for the last hour." I said, mumbling the last last. She chuckled obnoxiously, her voice naturally nasally. Daniel was clearer trying not to laugh at her laugh.
Polly turned around and smiled. Pulling out her hand from her pockets.
"Hi. I'm Polly Jene Albrosta." She said. I raised my eyebrows at Daniel as he shook her hand.
"Daniel Pr-"
"You know my husband's old golf instructor was name Daniel...yeah, or should I said ex husband. Yeah, we're getting a divorce." Polly interrupted.
I mouthed 'told ya' to Daniel as he glanced at me.
"Sorry to hear that." Daniel said. Polly hummed as she walked over to the machine next to me, checking shit I'm assuming.
"Anyway, I'll check on you later." She said; heading toward the door.
"That's really not necessa-"
She shut the door. Daniel laughed as I rolled my eyes.
"Poor Polly. Polly needs a man." Daniel said, repositioning himself in the chair. "She did. But they're getting a divorce now, did you even listen to Polly?" He chuckled. I noticed Friends starting playing, which instantly got my attention.
I subconsciously grabbed the black small remote next to me and turned it up, my eyes glued at the screen.
Daniel turned his chair and faced the T.V as well, seemingly interested.
And for the first time in the two days I've been here, I didn't mind the chlorine smell.
