20. Recovering

Sanji's P.O.V.

This hospital room makes me sick...the door opened and I saw Zeff.

"Hey kiddo" He said and gave me a warm smile. I'm actually happy to see him but I never show it.

"Hey shitty old man" I greeted him and smiled back.

He sat at a chair next to the bed.

"What did you do this time?" He asked and crossed his arms. His braided mustache was proud as always.

"I tried to save my friend" I answered.

"I learned that Luffy got lost and I understand that you all wanted to save him but did you have to go and put up with a gang?" He asked.

"We had no choice..." I said and he sighed.

"Sanji...you're the only one I have left since I lost your mother...what will I do if I lose you too?" He gave me a sad look. I looked away. I don't like when he's talking about my mother...

We stayed in silence for a bit.

"Do you have a cigarette? I really need one..."

"Ahh...here...I bought you a packet...I thought that you'd need them" He said and pulled a packet of King Ground Light from his pocket.

"Thanks" I said and brought a cigarette in my mouth and lit it up. I exhaled the smoke and immediately relaxed.

"What happened at you?" He asked.

"A bastard stabbed me with a sword here" I answered and pulled the shirt down my shoulder to show him the bandaged injury.

"Oh..." He said. His eyes scanned my shoulder. "What is that? You didn't have it when you left home" He asked.

Oh shit he saw the scar that Zoro made...

"Nothing I fell..." I said but he's not stupid.

"Sanji...don't lie to me..." He said.

"It's nothing just drop it...it's fine now so it doesn't matter" I said.

"Ok ok...soo...did you find any good girls here?" He asked and I froze.

"Um...no...well...actually about that...there's something that I need to tell you" I said. I can't hide this from him.

"What is it?" He asked.

"I...don't have...an interest for women anymore..." I confessed and his eyes widened.

"What? What do you mean?" He asked.

"It's not that I don't respect women anymore, of course I do...I just...can't see them erotically anymore..."

"So...you are..." He tried to say.

"Yes..." I helped him. "Don't worry I don't act like a woman or something. Look it's not my fault...these things don't come with warnings..." I said and looked down.

"How did you figure it out?" He asked.

I kept looking down. My thought travelled to him...

Him...

He...

His eyes...

His expressions...

His bitchy attitude...

His moves...

His everything...

My eyes glistered...I felt a tear stream down my cheek and fall on my hand.

"Sanji are you crying?" He noticed. I didn't say anything nor make any moves. He grabbed my chin and lifted my head to see my face. His own expression turned to a sad one.

"Sanji...what happened?"

"I'm sorry...I know that's not something you wanted to hear from me...I know that you wanted me to find a good girl but I turn out to this...I disappointed you...that's all I do after all..." I said.

"Sanji...I want you to be happy...And if that makes you happy, then so be it" He said. I stared at him with wide eyes. "Now tell me who is he" He continued.

"It's Zoro..." I said honestly and frowned.

"Aaand why the sad face?"

"He doesn't feel the same...there's no way he feels the same" I said.

"You don't know that..." He said.

"How can you tell?" I asked.

Before he could answer, the door opened and the doctor came in.

"I'm sorry to interrupt but there are other people who want to see your grandson" He said apologetically.

"Oh...I understand...We'll talk again Sanji" He said and stood up from the chair.

Just as he was ready to exit he turned to me.

"Good choice though" He said and winked.

I smiled and he left. Then the guys came.

Ace's P.O.V.

Black...black is all I see.

*Beep...beep...beep...*

That sound echoed in my ears.

My eyes started to open. Everything was only a blur.

Where am I?

"Oi, he's awake!" A voice that was in the same room as me called.

A few people came above me but my vision was blurry. I can't move very much. I blinked a few times and my vision was now good. Five guys were staring at me.

"Ace! How're you feeling?"

I couldn't really form a word.

"Where...am I?" I asked them.

"At the hospital, you've been unconcious for three days and finally you're up!"

Law's P.O.V.

We're all at Ace's room, waiting for him to wake up. It's been three days and he still hasn't woken up. Thankfully he's alive. I had sometime to think...

~Flashback...three days ago~

The four of us left the hospital and went home...Ace and Sanji have to stay there.

We were all ready to go to sleep but I can't...

There's something I have to get back...

I went in Luffy's room and knocked. He told me to come in. I came in and closed the door behind me.

"Hey..." I said.

I walked towards him and sat next to him on the bed.

"Are your wounds better?" I asked him.

"Yeah a little bit...I'm worried about Ace..." He said honestly.

"He will wake up, I promise" I said and put him in my embrace.

His head was burried in my chest and I fondled his hair.

"Luffy-ya..."

"Hmm?"

"Do you forgive me?" I asked in fear.

He took long to answer. I let go of him. His expression was sad. I looked at him deep in his eyes. He looked unsure.

"I don't know..." He confessed and I felt like something broke inside me.

"I need to think..." He said.

"I won't argue then...but please forgive Sanji...it's not his fault...he's the one who told us to save you, he thought that Doflamingo might had you..." I told him. He nodded.

"Goodnight Luffy-ya..." I said and kissed his bandaged forehead. I then left his room and went to mine.

I can't bear being without him...I need him...

~Back to present...~

We were waiting in silence.

"Guys...is he moving?" Zoro asked pointing to Ace.

"Oh my God finally!" Sanji exclaimed.

"Oi, he's awake!" Luffy said cheerily.

We all stood up and went above him.

He stared at us, not being able to form a word. He had tubes going inside his nosetrils.

"Ace! How are you feeling?" Sabo asked his brother.

"Where...am I?" He asked, his voice raspy and quiet, almost like a whisper.

"At the hospital, you've been unconcious for three days and finally you're up!" I told him.

His eyebrows furrowed. We got confused.

"Who are you?" He asked and we froze.

"Uuh...what do you mean Ace? Don't you remember that we kicked Doflamingo's ass to save Luffy?" Zoro asked him.

"Who's Luffy?" He asked.

"Ace? Don't you remember me?" Luffy frowned.

"I don't think I've ever seen you guys before" He said.

Oh no...

"I'll go get the doctor" Sabo said and left.

"Do you know who you are?" I asked him.

"I'm Portgas D. Ace...who are you?"

"I'm Law, your friend and roomate" I informed him. "This is Zoro, Sanji and your little brother Luffy, we all live together" I told him.

"You have funny eyebrows" He pointed out Sanji's unique eyebrows.

"Yeah I know" Sanji said and smiled at him.

"And you have weird hair" He remarked at Zoro's hair.

"Did you wake up for good?" Zoro spat, he got pissed off.

"You're pretty short" He told Luffy.

"So what?" Luffy said angrily crossing his arms.

"You're creepy" He told me.

"Ahh..." I just sighed. How kind of him to find a bad trait for everyone -_- was that the first impression he had for us?

Sabo came into the room.

"The doctor is coming" He said and stood next to me.

"Who are you?" Ace asked Sabo.

"I'm Sabo, your brother" He introduced himself.

"He's gonna remark something bad on you I'm warning you..." Zoro told him.

"Oh..." Sabo said.

"You have nice eyes" Ace said and we looked at him with wide eyes.

"Oh thank you" Sabo smiled warmly.

We all turned to Sabo and glared at him.

"Loosers" He said and chuckled.

The doctor entered the room.

"Hey guys our pal is finally awake I heard" Dr. Chopper said.

"Let me see you" He told Ace and started examining him.

"He doesn't remember us" Luffy said sadly.

"Oh...wait a minute" The doctor said and examined him for a little more.

"Could you please go outside for a minute? I'll come and explain everything to you right away" He said kindly and we nodded.

We waited outsife for a while and then the doctor came out.

"What does he have?" Sabo asked him.

"Well...he has...amnesia. But the good thing is that it's not the worst type. He only remembers himself as his identity and his family" He said.

"I knew it..." I whispered and looked down.

"Are you a doctor?" Dr. Chopper asked.

"Yeah but I'm still studying" I admitted.

"That's good then. In cases of amnesia, the patient must go home. He needs to be in his natural enviroment" He said.

"What can we do to bring his memory back?" Sanji asked.

"There are sometimes that the memory comes back by itself when the person sees something, or visits a special place etc...but if nothing of these seem to work...then there's obly one solution..." He paused.

"And what is that?" Zoro asked.

"He's gonna have to be hit in the head again..." The doctor informed us.

"Ok easy" Zoro said plainly.

"Dude are you kidding me?" Luffy was about to yell.

"I suggest you not to do that for the first two weeks if you can't bring his memory back because his brain is already damaged and the pain will get worse" The doctor said and we nodded.

"Now you can take him home" He said and dismissed himself.

We went back inside Ace's room and told him that we were leaving. After we achieved to explain him most things, we convinced him and went home...
