Yes or No
I spent the weekend trying to develop a unique idea to make a video with my girlfriend, Peggy. She couldn't get enough Facebook, TikTok, or Twitter; she watched videos all day long, especially couples videos. She posted a video of my reaction to her appearing naked in front of me while I was playing Smite. Now, she has been bugging me to liven up our relationship and create a video myself.
I just want to say thanks to the guy who thought he was doing all guys a favor by sucking up to his girl and making one of those videos. Yeah, thanks for nothing.
It took all weekend, but I finally came up with an idea. I spent Monday and Tuesday preparing for the video: Running by the Dollar Store for a clipboard, making reservations at LongHorn, her favorite restaurant, picking up new shoes to go with my suit, and collecting roses from the florist.
I picked her up from work on Wednesday. She wore a lovely green dress to accent her emerald green eyes. She'd swept her brown hair up in a bun, little ringlets at the sides. She looked amazing. Her smile was her best feature; it lit up her face and caused her eyes to sparkle.
After dinner, we were waiting for our desserts; I pulled out my clipboard. I moved my chair beside Peggy's, put my phone on record, and set it at the end of the table.
"What is going on?" A look of confusion crossed her face, but her smile never left.
"These are for you," I presented the roses to her.
"Oh my! They are beautiful! Thank you," she squealed, kissing me on my cheek.
"I have a question for you?" I said, picking up the clipboard with an envelope clipped to it.
"Okay," she giggled, doing a little excited dance in her seat. The couple from the table beside us started filming us.
"This is a choice question. One answer will get you what's inside this envelope." I held the envelope up in the air for her to see.
The way she wiggled in her seat, I fully expected her to pee on herself.
"All you have to do is pick yes or no," I told her as I glanced at the clipboard.
"Ooooo. I've seen this on TikTok. This is life-changing! I choose, yes. Yes!" She squealed excitedly.
"Now, wait a minute. Are you sure that is the answer you want to give?" I asked in a way to make her doubt her choice, trying to make her think she'd as if she had chosen poorly.
Her smile faltered for a bit, and then she recaptured it. "I choose yes, and you can't make me change my mind! Can I have my prize now?" She asked, holding her ring finger out for me to place a ring on it. Instead, I picked the envelope up and handed it to her.
"Oh, no!" The woman at the other table said. "You picked the wrong one."
"I don't understand," Peggy said sadly, taking the envelope from me and staring at it. She looked disgusted with her choice.
"Yes means we will not talk of marriage for three years, and you get a thousand dollars to spend any way you want."
"Are you kidding me?" Her voice rose, her eyebrows arched, and she slammed the envelope onto the table.
"No! You choose. I gave you a chance to change your mind."
"Let me see that clipboard!" She demanded, reaching across the table.
"No! It doesn't work that way." I jerked the clipboard out of her reach.
"Wow! That is cold." Our waiter set our desserts on the table in front of us.
"What is?" Peggy asked. She sat in her seat, glaring at me.
"The questions on his clipboard."
"Shh!" I mouthed. Whatever happened to the bro code?
"Pick yes, and you can't discuss getting married for three years, and you get the envelope. Pick no, and you don't get married, but you still get the envelope," the waiter spilled the beans.
Angry, flames burning in her eyes, Peggy picked up her chocolate cake, stomped to where I was sitting, and smashed her cake into my face.
That night, the couple at the table beside ours posted a video of our dinner online.
