Trial
(( I am so sorry!! It's been so long since my last update. Here is one though. Enjoy!!
And please keep in mind I'm not sure how a real custody trial would go but I did the best I could.))
Ana's POV
It didn't take as long as expected to catch Christian up and what he missed in out lives. The hardest thing I had to do was tell him about Hyde and Genevieve. I made sure all the kids were out of the house as well as Taylor and Gail. I needed to be alone with him when I broke the news. We ended up having to by a new lamp and he broke the skin on his knuckles. We also have a new hole in our bed room.
Today we have to go to court. Everyone is less than thrilled. We made it clear that not every one had to come, like last time, but they insisted.
"Ana?" I look up from the sink to my beautiful husband standing behind me with his arms around my waist and his chin on my shoulder.
I hum in response.
"Are you okay?" I shrug. "Ana." His tone is stern.
"I'm trying not to think too much into it." Christian nods and kisses just below my ear. "Babe?"
"Yes?"
"They can't take him, right? I mean I know legally they have the power, but if the lawyers dig deep enough and the jury keeps their eyes and ears open, there is no way the two of them can present themselves as suitable parents, right?" Christian nods his head and I spin in his arms.
"Right. I'll be damned if something happens to our son." I nod and look down, wishing I was in any other position than this. He tilts my chin up, forcing me to look him in the eyes again. "Hey. Our son. Remember that." I sigh and nod. Christian plants a quick one on my lips and takes my hand. "Come on. We need to get going."

In a matter on minutes the trial starts.
"This is EJ-05-011 in the matter of Anastasia Grey and Christian Grey against Genivieve Everett and Jack Hyde." Judge Martha looks down at us. "Now, I personally have no preference, but sometimes it matters to the parents, but would you like the child to be questioned here or in private chambers after the trial?"
I look to Christian, over Kenneth's head, and allow him to answer. Kenneth looks between the two of us, his grip growing tighter around our hands till his knuckles are white.
"In here." Christian speaks up and the judge nods.
"Alright. This is the way it'll go. Are you ready to proceed with the case?"
"Yes, your honor." Both lawyers answer.
"We are going to go ahead and swear in everybody who is going to testify. Anyone who is going to testify in this case please stand and raise your right hand." Christian, Kenneth, Genevieve, Hyde, and I stand, raising our right hands. "Do you swear that the testimony you are about to give is the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you God?"
"I do." We all say.
"Everyone has been sworn in. Mr. Matthew's would you like to call your first whiteness?"
"I would like to call Officer Harris to the stand."
A tall dark man in a CPD uniform walks up and takes the stand. He was part of the police squad that found Kenneth. Sitting there listening to his testimony, picturing my scared baby boy huddled in the warmest corner of the house while his mother's body too far to touch but too close to see, imagining four strange people barging into that piece of shit house with guns at the ready, and remembering how he described it there...it was so much worse how this man remembers it.
"No further questions." Mr. Matthews takes his seat next to Christian again looks down at some papers he previously pulled from a folder. Genevieve and Jack's lawyer stands and starts firing questions at Officer Harris.
In a matter of minutes, he too says he has no more questions and takes a seat. Maybe this will go by fast. I feel nauseous.
"Mr. Matthews, your next witness?"
"I'd like to call Margaret Palmer to the stand." The woman from the adoption agency walks in front of us and takes a seat. I look down at Kenneth, who obviously recognizes the nice woman, and smiles at her. She smiles back.
"Good morning, Mrs. Palmer."
"Good morning."
"Do you mind explaining to us your job?" Mr. Matthews goes over to the jury box, resting his elbow in the ledge waiting for the woman to answer. My stomach is in knots. I feel Christian's hand on my shoulder, a reassuring touch. I look over and try to smile but I'm not sure what face I make.
"I'm an adoption counselor so I help pair families up with the right child."
"How did you pair Kenneth up with the Grey's ?"
"Well, I was assigned his file when he came in, meaning I put all of his information into our system, I was responsible for getting him settled into the place, helping him get comfortable with us. The moment I met him, I could tell he was an amazing child." I lean down and place a kiss on Kenneth's head, agreeing whole heartedly with Margaret. Kenneth squirms closer to me and tucks himself into my side. "Then, when I received Mr. and Mrs. Grey's application, immediately I knew that Kenneth was a match for them."
"What steps were taken to insure that they were a valid couple for the boy?"
"Well, they passed the home evaluation with flying colors, there is not record of any sort of questionable activity from either of the two and interviews from the family only polished their image."
"Describe their first meeting for us."
"Kenneth is genuinely a very welcoming person, and as where Christian and Ana when I first met them. The home inspector said the same thing. So, when they first met him, it was a magical moment. They took him with open arms and he just fit with their family."
"No further questions." Their Lawyer stands again and slithers around the floor until he is in front of the woman, effectively blocking our view of her.
"What were you told about the boy when he came to you?" For some reason, when the man refers to my son as 'the boy' I want to slit his throat.
"One of the first things I was told was that he was abandoned. They mentioned that he was malnourished, suffering from a variety infections due to open wounds or the lack of availability of antibiotics when they were most needed. They told me there was no father in his life and that his mother had died in her sleep."
"You say that his mother died, but his mother is right here." He points back to Genevieve who has her legs crossed, back straight, obviously trying to contain a smug look. Kenneth sits up and looks over at her for a minute before leaning back into me. Oh, I wish I knew what was going through his head.
"When ever we would ask Kenneth about the woman, he referred to her as his mother. Only once did he tell us, well after we brought him in, that she was his aunt and that his biological mother had left him there with her. Even then, again the only reason he knew that was because his aunt told him so. There is no legal paper confirming or denying either one of their claims."
"You had to deal with his legal papers correct." He shifts gears.
"Yes."
"You say there is no legal paper confirming anything, so there was no legal paper of Ms. Everett signing up her rights as his legal mother?" I hear Christian take in a deep breath and I start to panic. If Christian is even the slightest bit worried...
"No."
"No further questions." As soon as he finishes his statement, and before Margaret can be dismissed, Mr. Matthew's stands up.
"Your honor, if I may?" He waves a hand to the woman and Judge Martha allows it.
"Once again, you said there is no legal paper work confirming or denying Kenneth or his aunt's statement, but, let the record show, you also said there is no documentation of Ms. Everett signing over her rights." Margaret nods her head. Where is he going with this?
"Tell me, since you saw all his paper work, which I assume contains a birth certificate, who is listed as his mother?" A moment of silence passes before the whole court watches Margaret's eye go wide.
"No one." My heart stops and Christian's hold on my shoulder tightens. What does this mean?
"Is there any documentation that would have been filled out when the baby was born that had a woman listed as his mother?"
"No."
"No further questions." Mr. Matthews sits down and I lean over to Christian the same confused look masks his face.
"How can a woman checkout of the hospital with her newborn baby with out having any proof that she is his mother?" I whisper. Christian shakes his head.
"I don't know." Christian turns to our lawyer, I assume to ask him, and a thought occurs to me.
"Kenneth," he looks up at me. "Were you born in a hospital?" Slowly he shakes his head.
"No."
"Babe, I need you to tell Mr. Matthews that." I say urgently and a look crosses my sons face like he just did something wrong. He leans over his father and taps Mr. Matthews on the hand.
"Yes, Kenneth."
"I wasn't born in a hospital." Mr. Matthews looks up at me with wide eyes, as does Christian.
"I can use that. When Genevieve gets pulled up, I'll target that spot. I already pulled any hospital records I could get my hands on." We all sit back in our chairs and wait.
"Mr. Lawson, you may call your witness."
"I would like to call Anastasia Grey to the stand." I feel the color drain from my face and Kenneth's head pop up. His hold on me grows tighter. Reluctantly I peel his hand off my wrist and watch Christian pull him to his side.
I take a seat in the brown leather chair and wait for questions. I can't help but pick at the skin around my nails, my teeth digging into my lip.
"Mrs. Grey, do you know these two people?" He motions over to their side of the courtroom. It takes me a minute before I can force myself to look at them. The knot in my stomach grows and I try not to gag, quickly looking back to my lap.
"Yes."
"How so?"
"I met Genevieve when my son took a summer job for her father and she tried to seduce him." I look up from my hands and look directly at Christian. He blinks and subtly nods his head. I can see the gears in his head turning.
"And Mr. Hyde?"
"He was my boss."
"The boss you had an affair with?" What? Christians face changes too and I'm glad we are in a legal setting. Everything happens in the blink of an eye.
"Your Honor!" Mr. Matthews jumps from his seat, his fist banging against the wooden table. Judge Martha too, looks appalled.
"Mr. Lawson, stick to the questions." She looks over at a woman sitting in a small desk on the other side of the stand. "Strike Mr. Lawson's last comment."
"My apologies." His eyes narrow at me. "Did you have an affair with Jack Hyde when he was your boss?"
"No." I speak the single word slowly hoping he would get the message. Obviously, he doesn't.
"Mrs. Grey, may I remind you that you are under oath?" He's voice holds a faux innocence.
"Last time I checked, being forced against a wall in my work place, having my boss attempt to touch me inappropriately, and bargain my position as his PA for sleeping with him, was not an affair. That was sexual harassment which led to his termination." Mr. Lawson is silent.
I look over at Christian and see the corner of his lips twitch. He has a proud look in his eye.
"No further questions." The man croaks and trudges back his seat. Mr. Matthews stands.
"How many years ago was this?"
"Um, close to twenty, I believe."
"Were charges pressed on Mr. Hyde?"
"Yes."
"Tell us about your position as his PA."
"I got his lunch and coffee, read through manuscripts before they made it to his desk. I arranged work trips for him, ran errands for him if I had to."
"Did you know anything about the PA's before you?"
"Yes. Before me, he had five in eighteen months."
"Why was that?"
"Harassment in the work place." Mr. Matthews walks over our table and grabs six manila folders.
"Your honor." He hands them to Judge Martha. "Let the record show that these folders contain the proper paperwork from each woman who served as Jack Hyde's personal assistant up until his termination from SIP. All having pressed charges for sexual harassment as well as other advances." After the judge looks them over she places them in the hands of a court official who places them in a box next to the jury box.
"Before the birth of your first child, Mrs. Grey, you were hospitalized." Oh shit. I glance over at Christian whose face pales, and suddenly Teddy stands from his seat and storms out the court doors. I see our family look after him but also look up at me with pale faces. The whole Grey house is worried now.
"Jack Hyde and his head of HR, Elizabeth Morgan, kidnapped my sister-in-law- holding her for ransom that I was asked to deliver and when I did-" My voice breaks. I can't talk about it. I can't go back there.
"No further questions." Mr. Matthews says and I am quickly dismissed from the stand.
"I'm going to call a fifteen minute recess and we will resume with witnesses when we return." Judge Martha confirms the recess when her gavel his the pad and immediately, Christian is out of his seat and at my side.
"Ana, are you okay?" He whispers, his hands cupping my face. I nod and feel his thumbs wipe away moister from under my eye.
"Momma?" I look down at Kenneth, his brows pulled together. "Are you okay?" He does his best to wrap his arms around my waist from the chair he is in. I smile and kiss his forehead.
"I'm fine sweetie. We may want to go check on Teddy, though."
((Okay, thank you for your patience. This one is a little longer and... OMG!!! The movie was amazing. Darker is defiantly better than the first one in my opinion.
What are your thoughts? I would love to talk to you about what you thought about the movie.
Was this a good chapter? What's your favorite thing that's happened so far?
I'm going to try to write on this some more. It shouldn't be months before the next up date. Like I said, sorry!! None of these will be edited."
