Nerves
((It was literally amazing that I found this gif because the little boy if the original person of Kenneth that I imagined. Anyway, I hope you enjoy this update, sorry it's short and unedited, but AHHHH we are so close!))
Ana's POV
Each second seems to creep along slowly. I keep checking the time and to my dismay only two minutes have passed since I last checked.
"So you get to see Daddy again?" Kenneth looks up from his organizing of gummies, his favorite everyday dessert after dinner. Mindlessly I trace the rim on my cup and nod, my mind scattered on many things beside the present.
"Yeah."
"Why?"
"Because he asked me to come back."
"To the rehabilitation place?" I place my cup down and look at my son in confusion.
"Where did you learn that word?" I knew my son was smart but as far as I know no one has told him about such things as a rehabilitation center.
"You said he was in rehab, right?" I nod. "I googled rehab to get an exact definition and the first thing to come up was drug rehabilitation and so I googled that and rehabilitation centers came up, so I assume that's where my dad is." The whole time he is explaining this I can't help but laugh.
"Well, I can assure you, your father is not in a drug rehabilitation center." I laugh and Kenneth blushes. "But, I'm going to visit him there." Kenneth has yet to see Escala so I could tell him the truth and still not cause any questions, but I'm sure he would go Google "Escala" next.
"When are you leaving?" He pops a few gummies in his mouth.
"As soon as I get you and Juliet to bed." He ponders my question for a bit before hopping off the bar stool and running around to me. He pulls me down to his level.
"Goodnight." He kisses my cheek and turns to run away. "Love you."
Before he gets too far, I grab his arm.
"What are you talking about? It's only five."
"Do you want to see him sooner or not?" Taking in his words I smile and kiss his head.
"My sweet boy." He shrugs his shoulders. "I would love to see him sooner, but it's a scheduled visit, I don't think he would be too pleased if I showed up unannounced."
"Oh. Well you can at least start getting ready now." He pulls away from me long enough to retrieve his gummies from the counter, making a pouch for them out of his shirt. "I'll go on to bed, and you don't have to tuck me in. Goodnight." I watch as Kenneth scampers up the stairs and smile. How did we get so lucky with him?
Since Child number one is taken care of, I go to check on Child number two and find her jumping in her bouncy chair sucking on some toy that looks more like a dog toy, but I never complain about it because she is always content with it.
I go to text Kate, since she insisted on helping me get ready, but before I can unlock my phone the door flies open.
"I'm here. A three hour head start wouldn't hurt." Kate says, taking off her glasses and her purse. I groan.
"We really shouldn't have given you a key."
"I can't believe it actually took three hours to get ready." I grumble while Kate and Phoebe move around me, tending to my hair and face
"This is your first date for crying out loud." Kate argues.
"Not really."
"Hold still." My daughter scolds and comes at me with a tube of light pink gloss.
"Naw to uch." I mumble, her hand on my jaw prevent it to be understandable. She finally releases me and tells me to smack my lips together. "I hate this stuff."
"Mom, you look hot, stop complaining." Her attitude is the perfect combination of mine and her father's. That's not always a good thing. Since they started three hours ago, I haven't seen their work of art, and when I finally look in the mirror. I gasp.
"You've been doing this for three hours?" They nod. "It looks like I have nothing on." Kate bends down, her chin resting on my shoulder.
"Your eyelashes look darker, fuller, and longer, there is color on your cheeks, the circles under your eyes are gone...Ana, you look stunning." I look her in the eye.
"I'm so nervous."
"Don't be. He is your husband. Go in there with a clear head, let the gods above work their magic and let the evening take its own course. Feel young again, Ana." I nod.
"Thanks Kate."
"Mom." I look over to Phoebe who extends my phone to me. "Taylor is outside."
I feel sick. My stomach feels as if it is turning inside out.
"Okay. I'm going to go tell the others goodnight." I stand from the vanity and grab my shoes and purse. I go to Juliet's room first to find my beautiful angel sound asleep. I place a gentle kiss on her forehead before making my way to Kenneth's room.
I crack open the door slowly to see if he is awake and as soon as the light hit's his face his eyes spring open.
"Hey, sweetie. I was just about to leave, but I wanted to check on you." I walk to the bed and take a seat.
"I'm okay. Go see Daddy, and tell him I said hi." He tries to push me off his bed, and with an amused smile on my face I stand up.
"Okay." I give him a kiss too. "Goodnight."
"Goodnight, Mamma." He watches me walk to the door and closes his eyes once again as I shut his door.
When I go back down the stairs, the nerves seem to have subsided, but my heart can't seem to slow down. Phoebe and Kate are whispering in the kitchen but stop mid conversation when they see me.
"So what time can I expect you home?" Phoebe crosses her arms, using a motherly tone. Well, the tables have turned. Kate speaks up.
"I put some condoms in your purse. I wouldn't expect her home tonight." I'm sure my jaw in touching the floor.
"Katherine Agnes Kavanagh!"
"What? She's old enough." Phoebe finds humor in it but I can't help but stare at Kate in dismay. "Ok, Ana, sorry. Now go! Taylor is waiting." They both shove me out the door.
"Have fun!" They cheer in harmony before slamming the door in my face.
Well, shit.
I turn and walk out towards the front where I know Taylor must have pulled the car up. Sure enough, he is standing there by the back. When I approach, he opens the door.
"Good evening, Ana." His tone is warm and welcoming, but in the blink of an eye he changes into the man I met all those years ago who picking me up at Clayton's. "Are you ready, Mrs. Grey." I bite my lip and nod.
"As ready as I'll ever be."
Christian's POV
"Is everything almost ready?" I look down at my watch. Taylor should be arriving at her house now.
"Yes. By the time they get back, I can place everything out for you two and it should still be nice and warm." Gail says as she checks the two ovens.
I look around at the assortment of food. I hope she doesn't think there is too much. I hope she likes everything Gail and I fixed, well, that Gail fixed and I attempted to help with. My nerves had been getting the best of me so I couldn't just sit back and watch. Gail sounded absolutely sure of herself when she insisted we fix these dishes. I also chose three of my best wines, not knowing what kind Miss Steele normally drinks. Does she drink?
"Am I missing anything?" I ask, taking the dish towel from my shoulder and wrapping it around my hands. I've never been this fidgety either. Damn this woman! I don't know her and I'm already a mess just by the thought of her.
"I believe everything is in order." Gail winks and carries on with washing the dishes. I can't bear to sit still so I opt for pacing around the kitchen and dining area.
"Gail." I stop behind the chair set for Anastasia, resting my hands on the back. "For the first time since the accident, I'm nervous for a completely different reason. The puzzle I've been trying to since I got out of that fucking hospital...it doesn't seem to matter so much anymore. Why is that?" Gail sets a plate and towel on the counter and just gazes back at me. I can't read her expression.
"I don't have an answer." Her voice is hallowed. I huff.
"I think everyone has the answers now except for me." She makes no comment. "I hope tonight goes well."
"Oh I think it will." Gail answers. I don't know if she meant to, but from how she stressed certain words and the tone of voice she acts as if she knows something.
"What are you not telling me?" I place the towel on the counter and fold my hands. Gail laughs and turns to me with her hands on her hips.
"Well, to be frank Christian, I'm not telling you a lot of things." I open my mouth to argue, but she follows up with "Doctor's orders." Before any more words can be exchanged she scampers off towards Taylor's office.
Damn all women.
As I hear the door close my phone beeps.
It's a message from Taylor.
She is here.
Oh shit.
Beads of sweat start to form in the creases of my hand, my heart skips a beat and suddenly I don't feel like myself. Or the me from before. Well before I didn't know what before was. None the less...I'm so fucking nervous.
Calm the fuck down! This isn't your first time. Um, technically it is. Um, technically it's fucking not, you son of a bitch.
Dear God the voices!
I hear the arrival of the elevator.
Everything stops. The second the metal doors part, everything stops. The voices are laid to rest, every clock stops ticking, and the world seems to be at peace.
Myworld seems to be at peace the moment beautiful blue eyes meet mine.
