Day 16

A/N: hey everyone! long time no see! i don't have much of an explanation to excuse my long term absence but i've recently started my junior year and it's been stressful and on top of that i injured my ankle which hasn't left my mental health in the best shape overall, but i'm going to try to update and finish whatever stories i have started for y'all <3

It was at 3 o'clock in the morning when Rey desperately wished that her life was a rom-com movie. The ones full of silly overused cliches and cringeworthy proclamations of love that still managed to rock sobs out of you at one in the morning as you realize that no, you're not over your ex.

She imagined the scene to play out like this: her saddened form lying restless in her bed, BB8 curled up at her feet as the sounds of soft pebbles hitting the window filled her ears.

She'd gasp out his name, her voice in a melodramatic state of shook as she ran out of her bed and towards the window to greet him. The night wind would blow softly as she caught his eye, her mouth in a now wide smile.

"You're an asshole, you know that?"

"Mhm, sure, if that's what'll make you happy. I'm just here to say sorry."

She'd like to imagine he'd proclaim his love after that. How he couldn't stand being away from her, how his heart ached from the thought.

And it was 3:30 in the morning, when she realized it'd never happen. The mattress she'd been lying on was now partially deflated, air slowly oozing out from a small hole near her left ear.

A small part of Rey hoped to hear the sound of pebbles hitting the window. The sound of Ben's voice yelling out his love for her, begging her to listen. But like she'd expected, all she heard was the soft hiss of the air mattress, slowly deflating from underneath her.

"This is real-life not a rom-com, Rey..." She spoke softly to herself, voice wavering with unshed tears. "Reality doesn't always have a guaranteed happy ending."

Her hand moved to lightly stroke BB8's fur as those once unshed tears finally fell.

The day before was an absolute mess. The IKEA shelf had gone terribly, considering the fact that after Rey had excused herself to take a break, Poe and Finn managed to make the whole thing fall apart.

She didn't know why Poe had to bring up marriage. Maybe she didn't mind it before but she sure as hell did now considering all that's happened.

But she wasn't mad. She couldn't be. Not at him, and admittedly not at Ben either.

And that's when Rey realized, through all her anger, her hurt, her sadness, a small part of her still wanted to marry Ben.

But it didn't matter, it's not like it'd happen anyways.

Life doesn't work out like that.
