Arc 3, Chapter 5: Changes

A month had passed after the debacle at the mountains, the Moskva and the remnants of the Jäger had decided to return to Waltzington. They'd purchased a wagon for the Moskva to tow, it was a quiet trip as not much was exchanged even when taking a rest.

Once they arrived, Wilhelm greeted them and offered them a place to stay, the guys got to work where they could while Luna worked as Wilhelm's wife assistant at the local school.

During lunchtime, Luna sat at the courtyard on a bench to eat her lunch. For staff lunch was free, she was thankful she didn't have to worry about it.

???: May we join you?

Luna: Oh Miriam yes it's ok.

Miriam, Wilhelm's wife, held her daughter on one arm while she was holding her lunch. She sat down and settled Nana on her lap as she got the food ready.

Luna looked with a bit of mixed feelings, she looked at another direction to calm herself.

Miriam: Is everything ok?

Luna: Yeah, I just have a lot on mind.

Miriam gave a small smile as she began feeding Nana with a small spoon.

Miriam: You remind me of Emilia, she always kept to herself. Will and I are thankful for trying to get her back home, but we feel sick about how you lost so much.

She began to tear up a bit but regained her composure, wiping her tears with a handkerchief.

Miriam: I'm sorry about that, how did you meet them?

Luna: We met on the side of the road, I was living in a small house but Ga1ahad burned it down.

Miriam: He burned it down?!

Luna: *chuckle* Its a long story.

Miriam: Is it ok for me to ask about your parents?

Luna paused to think about the question before resuming.

Luna: I... don't exactly know myself. Mother wouldn't talk about Father often, every time I tried asking her about it, she would get angry and punish me. Mother would always be busy working on her projects, then one day I just ran away.

Miriam: I'm sorry to hear that, the boys mean a lot to you then.

Luna: They do, they're the only friends I've ever had.

Miriam: Aw I know they are, we can see it every time you're with them.

Miriam passed Luna her handkerchief, Luna was confused at first until she realized she'd been crying the whole time. Luna smiled and thanked her as she took the handkerchief and wiped her tears.

Finn had recovered from his wounds completely, he'd helped out with whatever he could.

Finn: Where are we going?

Emil: One of our storage locations, we need to get you a change of clothes since you stick out like a sore thumb.

Finn: I thought this was ok?

Emil: It is when you're driving a tank but not when you're on foot in the forest.

They arrived at a run down castle, Emil got off and began working on the locks while the others waited. Finn looked at the damage on the castle, it hadn't been from age but rather was from a battle. Before Finn could ask, Emil opened the gate and Finn was greeted by a muzzle aimed at him.

Finn: What in the world...?

Finn got off the horse and walked towards it, there was no doubt about it, it was a Tiger II. It looked like it had been there a while with rust covering the steel that didn't have paint, on it's right side was a giant hole as if it had blown up on the inside.

Finn: How did this get here??

Kreuger: It belonged to some old farts, they're over there.

Krueger pointed towards the inner wall to the far left, 4 graves were present on the ground. A tattered flag of the Weimar Republic hanged above them, as if the eagle watched over them.

Finn: That doesn't make sense, that's doesn't make sense at all..

Krueger: Hmm? What doesn't?

Finn: That's the Weimar Republic flag, it was dissolved in 1933.

Krueger: Okay?

Finn: That's a Tiger II, it went into service in 1944, so how did they get one?

Krueger looked at the Tiger and then at Finn, realization of the paradox was reflected on his face as he looked towards the graves.

Krueger: Yeah too complicated for me, just ignore it.

Finn: Huh??

Before Finn could continue, Kruger waved his hand dismissing him along with anything else he tried to say as he walked away. Finned looked at Krueger with a baffled look, then Emil called out to him from within the keep.

Emil: Everything in order?

Finn: Yeah.

Finn looked at Emil's eyes through the gas mask's lenses, he stared back at him, then broke the state by turning down the hall. Finn followed him down towards a recently lit room, within the cold room we're various items on tables and crates.

Emil: This is stuff from us and the other guys, it's all extra so grab what you want.

Finn: Isn't this a lot more than what would be expected?

Emil: It wasn't just us three, there was six of us.

Finn was taken by surprise, he wasn't a stranger to loss but here was completely different, they were the only people from another world, a scarce thing.

Finn: How did they die?

Emil: A guy named Jahangir.

School had ended for the day, Luna and Miriam decided to go to the market on the way back to buy ingredients for dinner that day.

Miriam: Thank you for carrying Nana, she's getting bigger and still wants to be held.

Luna: It's no issue, we are thankful for helping us this much.

Miriam: It's a pleasure for us, we've always wanted to have a full house, then we realized that raising a children is another task in of itself so we settled with waiting for grandkids.

Miriam smiled as she looked forward, she noticed Peter and Arran coming towards them.

Arran: Hello Mrs. Lazvin, we wanted to talk to Luna.

Luna: What's happening?

Arran: We'll explain in a bit.

Miriam: Go on ahead, Nana is a big girl.

Luna looked at Miriam who nodded at her.

Miriam: Just make sure you come back before dinner, wouldn't want for the food to get cold.

Peter: We'll make sure we do ma'am.

Luna set down Nana who tried to protest but soon after calmed down, the trio went on their way as Miriam looked on.

Miriam: *sigh* they are both so alike, where are you Emilia?

---

The trio walked to the outside of the city, coming to a stop at the edge of the woods.

Luna: What was it that you need to talk about?

Arran: Peter and I thought about it and decided that it's necessary for you to have a weapon.

Luna: What? But I can't, I don't know how to use-

Peter: Luna, we've lost Marco and now Finn, we don't wanna lose anyone else.

Luna: But I don't know if I'll be able to...

Arran: Luna, we beg you, we are gonna train you to use.

Arran handed her a holster and a belt, Luna hesitantly took it. It felt heavy in her hands, Arran taught her how to put the holster on the belt and had her put the belt on.

Arran: Okay that's good, remember, always keep it on you so you don't lose it.

Arran took the gun from the holster, made sure the magazine and chamber were empty before handing it to her. Luna looked at the gun, "P38" was engraved on the side of it.

Arran: See the "S" and the "F"? S means Sicher and F mean Feuerstoss. When you're not using it move the lever to S and when you're going to pull the trigger move it to F.

Peter: Never have your finger on the trigger unless you're going to shoot, don't point the gun at anyone unless you're going to shoot them. Don't look down the barrel, and one of the most important things is don't play with it.

Arran and Peter practiced with Luna until sundown, teaching her how to aim and a bit of shooting. The returned back to the house after concluding the training, Luna was in higher spirits after doing good.

Molotov: Oh? miss has a gun now?

Arran: She actually did pretty good for her first time, she's a fast learner.

Luna: At first it was scary due to the noise but it was fun.

Molotov: That's good comrade, just be careful, seen many comrades get hurt for playing with fire.

Luna: I'll be careful.

Miriam: Luna, can you come here for a bit?

Luna walked upstairs to the second floor, Miriam motioned from one of the bedrooms.

Miriam: I had these made for you, go ahead and try them on.

Luna opened the paper parcel, she covered her mouth in surprise.

Luna: Miriam how did you get this this? This had to have been expensive!

Miriam: Oh don't worry about it, as long as you like it the cost is worth it.

Miriam went down to dining room and began setting up the table, everyone had returned and were waiting for dinner.

Lucas: Where's Luna?

Miriam: She'll be down in a bit.

Luna peeked her head from around the door way, clearly nervous. She walked out from behind the doorway, her outfit took them by surprise. She was wearing was resembled a black version of the M36 Tunic with purple piping, black trousers with a purple line going down the sides, black puttees and boots, and a black feldmutzen with purple flaps.

Luna: How do I look?
