The police came quickly and soon I was being questioned.

"So your saying that you woke up and found him like this?" The officer asked me. "Yes." I reply as my eyes trail over to the people that surrounded my dad's body. The officer in front of me scribbled something down and looked back at me. "Where's your mother?" I ran a hand through my hair and sighed. "She died when I was born."

The officer nodded and wrote something down again. "Was there anyone here last night at the time this happened?" I opened my mouth to say something but stopped. Should I really tell them about Devon? I remembered about how he had stabbed Jeremy and threatened to kill Elliot. Could Devon really have been the one to kill my dad?
"No. No one was here, just me." I say quickly. The officer raised a brow and jotted more down.
"You're so calm for someone who just witnessed the dead body of their murdered father. What's your relationship with him like?"

"Not good. He was an alcoholic and was abusive."
The officer nodded slowly and wrote some more down.

"Okay I'll have more questions for you later as for now do you have any family that you can stay with?"
I shake my head. "Not any I can get in contact with. Many of my family members live in California." The officer sighed. "Well do you have any friends you can stay with for the time being while we find some information on your family?" I nodded. "Come with me. I'll drive you there." I stood and followed him to the door. "Oh, do you need to pack some clothes?" I shook my head. "I have clothes there already." He didn't respond and continued to lead me out the door to the cop car.

He opened the door for me to get in the car. I climb in and he shuts the door and walks around to climb into the driver's seat. I sat quietly in the back as he started up the car and began to pull out of my driveway.

We didn't speak much throughout the ride unless I was telling the officer directions. As we pulled up to Devon's house he stopped. "Make sure you stay in town, kid. We still have questions for you." I nod and get out of the car and walk up to Devon's house. I felt the police officers eyes on me the entire time.

I knock on the door and wait for a response. Devon's mother opens the door with a stressed look on her face. "Connor! I'm glad to see you again." She looked at me and over my shoulder to the police car parked in front of her house. "What happened?" She seemed frantic all of a sudden. "U-um my dad..." I trailed off for a second. "Died last night."

She gasped and pulled me into a hug. "Oh my god Connor. I'm sorry." I shrugged. "I'll be fine. He was a bad guy anyway." She pulled away. "Was he the 'family troubles' you were talking about when you first came to stay here?" I nodded.

"I'm so sorry." She said sadly.

"It's fine. I'm fine." I give a small smile.

"Also, Connor..." she started as she looked around. "Have you seen Devon? He didn't come home last night so I thought he was with you." I flinched slightly. She must have noticed it cause she lightly lead me into the house and shut the front door. "He was with you wasn't he?" I nodded slowly. "Oh no. Do you know where he is now?"

"No..."

"Oh my god..." she sighed loudly and put her face into her hands. "Connor....if you don't mind me asking...." she trailed off for a moment. "How did your dad die?"

I take a shaky breath. "H-he was stabbed to death..." I was debating on whether of not to show her the note Devon left for me. Devon's mother paced the room for a second before turning back to me. "Connor, I'm so sorry." She said and I could tell she was holding back tears. "I wish I could say that Devon isn't the type to do that but..." she burst into tears. "I'm so sorry. This is all my fault."

I pull her into a hug. "It's fine. None of what happened is your fault." I say trying to comfort her. "But it is..." she pulled away from me quickly wiping her tears away with her hands. "Connor...Devon is...he's..." she stumbled on her words trying to figure out what to say. "He's...not stable..He's always went through these times in life when he would get really violent with anyone. At first it started out as him yelling then it got worse and he turned to physically hurting others." Her sobbing had stopped but she still was lightly sniffling. "He was supposed to take medication to make sure he didn't get to violent but lately I couldn't get him to take it..."

I was silent. I didn't know what to say.

"So it is my fault Connor. If I had just been a better mother and made sure Devon took his medication then he wouldn't be out hurting people and he wouldn't be missing now."

"No, you are a good mother. It's not your fault. We'll find Devon and we can figure this out okay? But don't blame yourself." She nodded.

"Okay..."

Hey guysss. So yeah Devon is not exactly sane. I would have an actual name for an issue that he might have but since it wasn't a part of the story from the beginning I didn't have it all worked out. But when I finish this story I will rewrite it and definitely fix some things so don't worry. Also I know this is pretty poorly written so just bare with me okay? Okay.
Byeeee thanks for reading this chapter!❤️ I hope you enjoyed!
