Chapter 1 ༄ Birth

"Just one more push." The medic droid, reassured the pained Mandalorian who was sitting on it's medic bed.

"Ahhhh!" She screamed and gripped the bed, with all she had.

She heard a small cry and her heart broke.

"It's a girl." The medic droid informed them and Sabine noticed the small bundle in it's arms.

"I'll take her." Ezra smiled and took the baby from the droid. He felt so proud of this bundle of joy, that had barely even taken a breath, she was their child, their happy future, one with no Empire, or sith.

Sabine took a couple of deep breaths smiling, and exhausted. She thanked the medic droid and it was happy to give them a few moments alone.

"She's beautiful." Sabine smiled, looking up at her husband and child.

"What about me?" Ezra asked with a laugh, handing over the child to her mother.

"You're beautiful too." She said, and they both laughed. She looked down at her baby and held her close. "You thought about the names we have talked about?"

"Yes I have." Ezra said, and leaned over his wife and planted a kiss on both of their foreheads. "I was thinking you can choose this one and I can choose the next."

"Ezra let's stay in the present for a moment." She said with a smile. "But I guess that's only fair." Ezra smiled back.

Sabine looked at the barely an hour old baby and felt nothing, but innocent and happiness radiating off her. She didn't know of war, of pain, of sickness, but she didn't know happiness, or joy, or love yet. "I'm kind of sold on a name related to Kanan, we talked about Kay with a K or Cay with a C."

"I like Kay with a K." Ezra inputted.

"Then Kay it is. Kay Bridger, welcome to the galaxy." Sabine told her daughter, and Sabine could of swore she smiled back at her.

Ezra looked down at his biotic arm, and moved it just a bit. He was reminded of his past again, and decided to make a promise.

I will never hurt my family again.

He remembered his own parents, their smiles, their laughs, and how he felt his time with them was so short and made another promise.

I won't let this girl grow up without a father or a mother.

He looked back up and saw Sabine smiling at him. "This is a day to be remembered."

"It truly is." Sabine agreed, and jumped a bit when she heard the door open.

"Hera!" Ezra smiled when he saw who was coming in.

"I'm so sorry I'm late." Hera apologized, and noticed the little bundle in Sabine's arms. "The droid said family only and.... Is that...?"

"Yes." Sabine said. "You can hold her, if you want."

Hera nodded and took the small baby into her own arms. "It's been so long since I've held a baby." She wiped back a tear. "It's so cute." Have you decided on a name yet?"

"It's a she, and yes we have." Sabine answered, trying to sit up, but falling back into the bed. "We decided to name her Kay, after Kanan."

Hera just smiled and Ezra figured she didn't trust herself to speak, by the growing tears in her eyes.

All Kay saw were happy smiling faces looking back at her, she didn't feel the need to cry, she felt the need to sleep and rest for whatever this life might bring.

Kay yawned.

They all cooed at how cute she was.

"Little Kay has the right idea." Sabine said.

"You need some rest too, Sabine." Ezra agreed and right on cue the medic droid rolled back in.

"Everyone out." It ordered. "I'll take the baby, so it can be tested and the mother here needs to rest."

Hera reluctantly handed over Kay to the medic droid and left the room with Ezra, but not before Ezra gave Sabine a goodbye kiss.

They were now both sitting in the medic bay's waiting area with a few other humanoids, not many were at this small medic center on Lothal, it was top of the line though, Ezra made sure of that.

"Congrats Ezra." Hera squeezed his hand and said. "You're a father and a husband now."

"I know, like wow it feels like just yesterday you guys found me on Lothal." Ezra speculated. "And I said 'My name's Ezra. What's yours?' To Sabine."

"It does." Hera agreed as laughed. "I've got to ask you, do you feel ready for this?"

"Ready for what?" Ezra asked.

"Taking care of a child." Hera specified. "Being responsible for raising this life into a good person."

"I don't know." He answered honestly. "But you, Kanan, my parents and all my friends shaped me to who I am today and I trust you did a good job." He and Hera shared a laugh.

"Let's hope." She agreed. "Do you think she'll be force sensitive?"

"We won't know yet, not until later. I didn't even know I was until I was fourteen, but I was a bit slow." He answered. "But even if she was I can't train her, even if she wanted to be a Jedi."

"Luke could." Hera offered. "I've heard he's thinking about making another Jedi academy."

"We'll see." Ezra answered. "We'll see what she thinks, when she can even form words."

Hera smiled and nodded, resting her head on Ezra's shoulder. Them both waiting to see what happens next.

The next two weeks went by in a blur. Roe came by to visit and see the baby, she even brought Del to come see her old friend. Jessica and Circuits stopped by one day and offered congratulations, and since they missed the baby shower they gave Ezra and Sabine some nice baby girl clothes. Mouse, Vent and Cade also stopped by too, Mouse brought some of his home-made cheese for the happy family. Eights stopped by as well and brought Chopper, who had insisted Eights make Ezra and Sabine some waffles.

As soon as those two weeks where up, Sabine, Ezra and baby Kay were allowed to leave the medic bay and head home. Kay was all checked out and completely healthy, and so was Sabine, a pregnancy wasn't going to keep her down for long. And of all days, the day they were bringing her home, had to be the day Lothal brought down one of it's rainstorms onto the happy couple.

"Run." Ezra said, wishing their speeder had a cover over the top.

"I'm not going to run with the baby." Sabine protested and got soaked in the process.

"Well at least the stroller thing has a cover." Ezra bright sided.

"Yes that's great, but now Kay's parents are soaking wet." Sabine hopped into the speeder and quickly closed up the stroller.

"Why are you talking in third person? And how did you get the stroller closed so fast that thing is impossible?" Ezra asked, mesmerized.

"I used the force." She joked and Ezra put the speeder in drive, heading to their new house. They just upgraded from Ezra's old comm tower, they were previously using as a home, but they realized they needed a lot more space if they were going to grow a family.

They soon reached the two-story house on the outskirts of Capital city, it had four bedrooms and three bathrooms, a large open floor plan, with the living room and kitchen flowing together.

"Home sweet home." Sabine said and smiled, as they ran inside to get away from the rain that was now coming down, harder.

Their living room was just full of baby stuff, from their friends and some still unopened wedding presents that Ezra had been just too lazy to put away.

Kay was wide awake and listening to her parents scramble to get all dried off. She was laying in the crib which the had just put up in the living room.

"This was an adventure." Ezra said, slinking into the couch.

"It was." Sabine poured herself and Ezra a glass of water, in their top of the line cups that Eights had got them for their wedding. "To this adventure and many more to come." She proposed a toast and handed Ezra his water.

"To this adventure and many more to come." Ezra agreed and their glasses clicked on the hope of a happy future, together as a family.
