Landing

We were fast approaching the planet. I checked the sensors one more time, no life readings. The largest landmass was only a couple hundred feet from side to side, it wouldn't work at all. Onscreen the planet gave off a blue light to the surrounding planets and moons. Kind of... beautiful.
The sensor displays started beeping out of control. 10,000 life readings. 5,000,000. 10,000,000,000. 50,000,000,000. This planet was flourishing.
"Sir there appears to be a large alien structure facing the ship" I pressed the intercom button, "what do you mean?" I asked. "Well, sir, I'll repeat. On the island, there is a giant structure, FACING OUR SHIP"
"Well how do you know it just wasn't build that way?" "Because its moving with us!" I looked at the sensor display. As it turns out, there was.
"It's sending high powered beams directly at us!" "Raise the external shields.", I replied. I leaned forward in my seat. Could there be an aggressive Sentient race living on this planet? I sure hope not.
I dashed into the main deck. John turned to face me and said, "The shields are having trouble facing the beams. Should we return fire?" He asked. "No" I said. "It could cause them to be even more angry at us. Divert power from offensive weapons to the shields. We will touch down on this planet, aliens or not." "Okay sir.. but.." "Just, do it. Trust me." "Okay..."
