Rory

Meg looks freaked out. I'm not sure what to do. My dad says women need reassurance. Maybe he didn't give any to my mom and that's why she left.

"Meg, would you like a piece of pie with ice cream? That always puts me in a good mood."

I think Meg just rolled her eyes at me? Could I be married to a woman who dismisses me like that? Then again ice cream ala mode probably is a stupid idea right now.

"I'm sorry Rory. I didn't mean to be rude. But who can eat at a time like this? I need to warn my family about the bogus vaccine. It's gonna be doled out like the best thing since sliced bread! If it is the end of the world I wanna be with my sisters."

I took Meg's hand. Her long fingers were freezing. "We will. We just have to think of another way." I bowed my head. "Dear heavenly Father, we are stuck--literally stuck upstate New York. Nothing is impossible with you--nothing. Please make a way for us to get around the traffic--or even through it the way you helped Moses by parting the Red Sea. Amen.

Meg agreed and scooted closer to me. "Amen. Nice prayer Rory... I like a man who takes charge spiritually."

I snuggled even closer. The waitress came to our table. "We'll have apple pie ala mode."

Meg added, "Chocolate ice cream please." She looked at me. "If it's gonna help it's gotta be chocolate." She shouted, "Put whipped cream on it too please!"

Rory is gonna make a wonderful husband. He's the best boyfriend ever. Sure he's my only boyfriend but when you know you know. As my mom used to say, "Stick a fork in them--they're done!"

While eating the warm pie with melting homemade chocolate ice cream I looked down at my bracelet and had an epiphany! "Rory, what if we go to where my father is? He isn't on Long Island but..." I showed him my bracelet. He's here, at these coordinates upstate New York.

Rory pondered my meaning while feeding me the last bite of pie. "Isn't that where your family cabin is? It's a few hours north of here."

"Yes. My sisters and I have a pact.  If all else fails, head to the cabin."

Rory kissed me on the cheek. "Brilliant. Check please!"
