Only People

"Are you sure you aren't still under mind control?" Eights asked, jokingly to Ezra as they were in hyperspace headed to force knows where.

"Yes I'm sure."

"You sure, you sure?"

"Yes. I just need some time alone, to collect my thoughts."

"Why did you bring me then?"

"I needed a pilot."

"You can fly."

"I'm blind."

"Oops I forgot."

"I'm this close to killing you. Where are we headed anyway?"

"I don't know I closed my eyes and picked a planet."

"You can look at the coordinates now, though."

"Oh right. It looks like we are headed to Coruscant. What are the odds? Lucky, we stole a Pyrce's ship it will make the landing easier."

"Yep pretty lucky. Coruscant, the capital of the galaxy, I've been there a few times." Ezra said, thinking. "You?"

"Never. A trooper from the outer rim doesn't have very good connections and it's not like the rebellion has much business here." Eights observed.

"You'll be blow away." Ezra smirked. "How long till we arrive?"

"Well we have 8 hours till we arrive."

"Just enough time to think of what to do next."

"Well you do that, I'm going to get some shut eye." Eights yawned.

"Seems like a good idea, I'll stay here and maybe find something to eat." Ezra heard Eights walk off, and leaned back on his chair, wishing he could see the hyperspace lights.

Pyrce dusted herself off and got up. "Better follow Ezra's lead and head out, before I call for reinforcements." She threatened.

"We aren't leaving." Sabine protested, but Hera grabbed her arm before she could pull out her blaster.

"We don't have a choice. Let's head back to the base and get the Ghost." She suggested.

"We have to help these people, Hera. We can't leave."

"You can't always help everyone." Ahsoka advised, from behind one of the crates.

"No soap Sherlock." Mouse inputted.

"Yes go off and run it's what you insurgent scum do best." Pyrce said, standing behind her death trooper escort. "Or stay here and get captured, either works."

Sabine shot a helpless look at her friends, but they all shot her hopeless looks back. "Fine." She grimaced and began to walk towards the nearest ship. "Let's go." With that Sabine boarded the imperial troop transport.

"Guess we are following her." Mouse skipped off after her followed by the rest of the rebels.

"May the force be with you." Hera muttered to Pyrce. "You are going to need it."

A few hours later...

"You're you up, sleepy head." Ezra said to Eights as he walked back into the cockpit.

Eights yawned. "Yep." He grabbed a seat, next to Ezra. "Can I ask you a personal question?"

"Right now, just after you woke up. You don't play around."

"Well I was considering whether or not to ask, but since we don't have much to do why not."

"Ok sure hit me up."

"Are you ever going to restore your eyesight?"

"When you meant personal, you weren't kidding."

"Yep."

"Well to be honest I really don't know. What do you think?"

"What do I think?"

"I mean you're a guy, I'm a guy can't a guy get some guy advice. I know what Sabine would say she would probably go into this long rant of how I should."

"She would probably talk about how much it hurt you knowing Kanan couldn't see you." Eights added and Ezra nodded.

"Yep and probably would say how when we have kids do I want them to go though that same pain."

"And how she would want you to see her again, after all of this. Good thing she isn't here to say all of that though?" Eights offered a nervous laugh.

"Yep good thing she isn't here."

A couple of beats passed. "That got awkward fast." Eights said.

"Yep."

"Is it weird?"

"What?"

"Being blind."

"You would think, but it really just strengthens my connection to the force. I mean I can't see, but I can see. Do you know what I mean?"

"Nope." Eights said and they both laughed.

"So how was the whole turning the chips off like."

"I would rather not talk about that."

"I respect that, just trying to keep the conversation moving."

"You know I said I left to be alone right."

"Ehh, you would want human contact eventually."

Ezra raised his eyebrows.

"I'm making this worse aren't I."

Ezra nodded.

"It's just I haven't seen you in a while. Forgive my word choice."

"All's good."

"I don't know I thought we are buds and I just want to catch up."

"We are buds, Eights."

"Phew, I was scared you might kill me or something." He joked. "Anything you want to know about what you missed?"

"How was Sabine?"

"Pretty good for the most part, except for the fact that Ahsoka went missing and Hera got put in a coma."

"WHAT?!"

"You didn't know, she was injured in the battle of Hoth, I'm so glad she was ok."

Hera could of died, and I wouldn't even of known. "Me too."

"Don't worry I looked after Sabine for you." I hope he doesn't think I mean in the way of keeping the bed warm.

"I would of killed you if you said kept the bed warm."

Eights looked shocked for a moment. "Oh the mind reading thing. It slipped my mind."

"A lot of people do."

"And to further you statement, no I didn't make a move on Sabine, we're just good friends."

A twinge of jealously shot though Ezra. Eights was there to comfort Sabine and I wasn't.

"You aren't jealous, are you?" Eights asked, pulling him out of that train of thought. Ezra jumped a bit thinking Eights read his thoughts.

"No..."

"That's good. Do you need me to do anything?"

"No, we only have an hour left, let's just sit in silence."

"Ok."

The blue of hyperspace illuminated there faces for a little while in silence as they both got lost in their thoughts.

"Can I ask you a personal question?" Ezra said, breaking the 45 minute silence.

"Sure?"

Ezra shook his head. "What does the rebellion think of me? Do they think I'm a villain? A monster? How can they trust me after all I've done?"

"I've seen both side of this war do terrible things. I've been apart of some of those terrible things. So in my experience, there are no heroes, no villains, just people doing the best they can."

"Cut with the deep life meanings."

"I thought that was pretty good, I got that quote from one of my favorite holoshows."

"Figures, you aren't that insightful."

"I'm offended." Eights said, and mock gasped. "But honestly, some people I've seen talk about you, they make you sound worse than Vader."

"What exactly do they talk about?"

"The people you killed, the lives you destroyed."

"Then why aren't you scared of me, angry at me?"

"Circuits phrased that well once he said 'Eights, you lack common sense and are too trusting in people' I guess I am, but it takes a lot to make me trust you and once you earn that trust, it's hard for me to hate you, but I like what Cece said the best 'Man, you have no fear of anything.' And I guess I do, maybe that's why. I don't get scared easily. Fear holds you back and stops you from reaching your potential, and hate also holds you back once you let go of that hate and fear, forgive people's actions and wrong doings to the galaxy, life is a whole lot brighter. You get me?"

"I get you, but I don't know how you do it."

"How I do it? I don't focus on my past or the people that did me wrong. If I do that I give them power, but if I let it go. I win and I win by being happy."

Win by being happy. Ezra echoed Eights' words in his thoughts. I haven't been happy in a long time.
