DAY 8: MISSING
word count: 384
EONVERSE: LUKAS GAZIS, LINH VU
in which lukas disappears under mysterious circumstances, and linh won't let him go without a fight.
contains themes of the supernatural, death and general horror. author's notes at the end.
How so many people can fit in so small a house, Linh will never know, though she isn't complaining—the music is loud, the drinks flowing, and as if she gives a fuck if a few glasses break. It's a party, everyone is here: sacrifices must be made.
Everyone except Lukas. She saw him come in, she knows (weaving carelessly through a crowd, brushing off attempts at conversation), but now he's disappeared, and Linh hasn't seen him for hours. Through another stifling corridor, past rooms full of people, to the only door she declared off-limits to everyone except him: her bedroom. She more than anyone understands his want to enjoy the party, but need for somewhere to calm down every so often.
Lukas isn't in there, either.
She yells, practically screams, but her voice is lost amongst the crowds until she slams her bedroom door behind her and pulls out her phone.
where the fuk r u?? -_-
Then, after waiting another minute (another frantic one, though for the life of her she doesn't understand why she's so worried; he probably just left):
bitch don't ignore meee >:[
r u still @ mine? o.O
Linh drops her Nokia to her side, until it suddenly pings with a message. A string of indecipherable letters scrolls and scrolls across her screen, phone getting hotter and hotter, burning her skin until she finally yelps, lets it go, kicks it fearfully across the floor with a knee-high converse.
The fuck was that?—Faintly, the bassline of the music from the corridor beating in time with her racing heartbeat, she begins to register what's going on. This isn't normal—as if anything that goes on in Summer is normal—but this is worse, weirder, the level of weird even she with her alien connections can't decipher.
Is Lukas going to die? Far too morbid a thought, but it balloons bigger and bigger in Linh's mind, as anything she can't immediately understand usually links to death, or at least the dead. Maybe he's already gone; but there is still human inside her that wants to believe in him, that he can fight. Against whatever unknown powers are at work, ones suddenly creating disappearances like they did six years ago, he can fight as she knows others did. And others weren't Lukas.
this ended up a bit all over the place, a bit foreshadowy-slash-canon (though basically everything i write in the eonverse is canon, because nothing is canon, technically) and not too horror-y; nonetheless i hope you enjoyed reading about linh as much as i enjoyed thinking and writing about her!
starting from today, i'm going to be going a lot slower with my 31DOH entries—i feel like i've been rushing and not making recent ones as good as i can, plus i don't have as much time now; i will still be completing all the prompts, just likely not every day and not completed by the 31st. see you on day nine <3
