Prologue
W/N: hey, I just wanted to say that I am aware that some of my characters have the same/similar names, what can I say, I'm unoriginal
Falcon's heart pounded as his shoe's thumped against the wooden floor. "Shit, shit, shit, I can't be late." He muttered to himself, he turned the corner where he bolted to a dark red tent. Bursting through the door, he stopped not bothering to catch his breath. Raccoon, quickly got up and shushed Falcon as he stumbled through the door.
"Is she okay?!" Falcon quickly shout-whispered to the dark haired doctor. She smiled and lead him over to the side of a red bed where Oak, his wife and love of his life was laying, a white blanket bundle in her arms. Falcon scooted past Raccoon to drop down next to his wife, she looked tired but happy.
"Falcon, meet your daughter." Oak quietly whispered, turning the bundle over to Falcon, a tiny beautiful baby wrapped up in the fabric. She was fast asleep, her little pink nose and bright cheeks almost melted Falcon's heart. "Beautiful, isn't she?" Oak asked as Falcon carefully lifted their baby into his arms.
He smiled and started tearing up as he looked back over to Oak, who was doing the same. "What's her name?" Falcon quietly asked, but Oak just simply shook her head. "Right." He nodded and looked back down at the baby is his arms. His daughter shifted in the blankets before sticking one of her arms out of the fabric to grab at the air, Falcon immediately placed one of his fingers in the baby's hand, she gripped it before opening her eyes and looking up at him.
She had huge beautiful blue eyes with hints of green and grey swimming in the blue depths. Falcon smiled before something caught his eye, there was a brown mark on his daughter's side that lead around to her back. He carefully loosened the blanket and looked at her back, Falcon gasped at what he saw. On her back, coming up from the middle of her, was a birthmark that looked like a large, bird-like wing.
Raccoon stepped in and scooped their daughter up into her arms before smiling and bringing her over to a small bed where she placed her down. "She'll be fine." Oak reassured Falcon as he got up to get his daughter back. He stopped before nodding.
"What are we going to call her until she gets her name?" Falcon asked, sitting back down. Oak shook her head again as Raccoon took care of their daughter.
Oak had died in an employee attack shortly after their daughter was born, leaving Falcon alone to raise her. As the years pasted, Falcons daughter grew more and more adventurous but he kept telling her that she had to wait until she got her name before she could leave the town. On countless times, his daughter was caught trying to sneak out. Time and time again, Falcon had to drag her back to their small hut after the chief caught her.
But this was finally it, his daughter was turning thirteen, it was time for her, and two others, to get their names and join the tribe. Falcon bit his lip as the three of them lined up on a platform made out of thick tabletops. He watched along with the other parents and tribe members as their Chief, Chief Wolf, stepped down and looked at the three children.
They were going to be tested on their skills to earn their name, they'd be given a name that represents their best skill and determines what role they'll have. Chief Wolf approached the shortest of the group, a girl with messy blonde hair and bright blue eyes. She ran through the obstacle course with relative ease, grabbing each food can on the way. She sloppily built a box out of wood, and had issues lifting the palettes. After her assessment, Wolf thought for a moment before nodding and turning to Falcon's daughter.
Falcon bit down on his lip a little harder as she was sent through to obstacle course. She vaulted over the first wall before skidding and sliding under the second. Falcon watched as she weaved and climbed with remarkable ease, and in incredible time too. She grabbed each can of food on the way as well, never really stopping. Then she made her way to the building faze where she also sloppily built the box. Falcon was really amazed when she got to the strength test, she lifted the three palettes with ease, she carried them to the first mark as if it was nothing. Falcon watched as she lifted two more palettes onto her back before starting to walk to the second mark.
As she reached the second mark, she staggered, stopping for a moment before crossing the line and trying to lift another palette onto her back. She started walking again, slower this time. As she reached the halfway point, she staggered and landed on her left leg weirdly. Getting back up, she tried pushing on but she was limping pretty badly. A few feet away from the last mark, Falcon's daughter tripped over her foot again and went to catch herself with her left leg. A sickening crunch and snap was heard as she collapsed on the ground.
Falcon jumped up but she looked at him and shook her head, Falcon held his breath as she pulled the palettes off of her back and started pushing them forward. Then that's when Falcon saw it, his daughter's shin bone had broken and was pushing forward out of the skin. With a final shove, and a cry of pain, his daughter pushed the stack of palettes over the line before falling to the ground, unconscious.
They leaped into action and scooped her up before rushing to to the medical tent, where Raccoon immediately started tending to her. Falcon waited and watched for hours as Raccoon first pushed bone back into place, before putting a splint on it and wrapping her leg up, leaving her to rest.
Falcon waited by her side for hours, the lights went out and still he stayed. She finally opened her eyes and looked around before she found Falcon and smiled. "I guess this means I won't get my name yet, right?" She asked, looking down at her bandaged leg. Falcon went to open his mouth, but a voice from behind him beat him to it.
"That's not true, I believe you've earned one." Chief Wolf said, stepping into the light, looking down at Falcon's daughter. "You showed bravery, strength and resilience out there. For that, I hear by name you Condor, for your agility and strength. You will fly farther than any of us ever could."
