20: You are a Children's Book Writer. Write the First few Lines of Your new Book

Elladan and Elrohir were fast asleep when the Lord and Lady of Rivendell went back to their room. Celebrian had heard the stories that her sons always wanted to hear from their father when the sun had gone down.

"Elrond?"

"Hm?" Her husband looked up with a gleam in his silver eyes.

"Have you ever thought about writing children books?"

"No. It never occurred to me that I would be good at it." Elrond laughed. "I'm afraid that from my own childhood I do not have a fine line between material for children and material for adults." Celebrian giggled at ther husband's humor.

"Really! You would be good at writing books, for anyone." Elrond chuckled dryly,

"You're too kind love, but I am a little too descriptive for children when it comes to written word." She hit him lightly on the arm.

"You do a fine job with the twins. Just write down what you tell them." Elrond sighed and shook his head before looked back to her with a good natured grin.

"I can't win this argument can I?"

"One does not simply best the daughter of Galadrial, Elrond." Glorfindel walked out from one of the many passages to join the two. "It is a blessing that Celeborn has lasted as long as he has." Celebrian hit the Vanya lightly as well as her husband for that little bit.

"My mother is a good woman." Glorfindel held up his hands in defeat,

"Ai, your right. Yet, you mother can make an argument that could kill any poor man who strayed into it by accident."

"Glofrindel, mellon nin, You make it sound as if my mother-in-law's speech was a war field." Glofrindel put his forearm on his forehead as if he was in distress.

"Elrond, you would be better off in a war-field than in verbal combat with a women." The Vanya looked over to his side to see another passage open up. "Now, I take my leave." He gave a pointed looked to Celebrian. "Don't damage him too much." With that the gold haired warrior disappeared.

Celebrian looked back to Elrond who was more or less staring at the hall that Glorindel left through.

"That was interesting... I suppose." Elrond shook his head before taking his Lady's hand and continuing the way back. They entered their room and Celebrian swept over to her husband's desk. She grabbed a quill, a bottle of black ink, and as much parchment as she could carry with her other hand.

"Sit down Elrond. You are going to do this if it kills you."

"Would that please you to see me die by too much writing?"

"What do you think." She sat the supplies on the desk and turned to Elrond with her hands on her hips.

"If you dialog is any indication, I'm not sure yet." She grabbed his hand and pulled him over to the desk, shoved his down in the chair and handed him his quill.

"I know you could if you put a small amount of effort in." Elrond sighed but oulled the ink bottle over and looked up to his wife.

"I'll try for you my dear, I'll try for you." She smiled sweetly and gave him a kiss on the cheek before walking into the washroom and shutting the door.

Elrond combed over ever story that he could tell. He knew a lot of stories from war stories to love stories to sob stories, he had a good mixture of book ideas. What can I write for children? The first story that came to mind was The Fall of Mithlond. That was the story he told his sons most often.

He dipped the quill in the ink pot, drew it out, and though over the first line in his head. How do you start a story? He tapped the quill agaist his chin. In the land of Eregion... He stightened up and sratched the quill on his parchment writing down the line he had begun.

In the land of Eregion lived the peoples of Middle-Earth. The Elves in the city of Mithlond, the Dwarves in the city of Moria, and the Men in the land to the North. Elrond, who was now pleased with his short bit of progress, scratched the next the line on the parchment.

In the land of Eregion lived the peoples of Middle-Earth. The Elves in the great city of Mithlond, the Dwarves in the underground city of Moria, and the Men in the kingdom of the North. There was one more person their that the peoples knew little about, Sauron the deceiver. Elrond pushed away from the desk and looked over his newly written work of art. With a sigh he got up out of the chair and walked over to the bed.

He slipped from his heavy robes into something to sleep in before crawling into the bed. Celebrian reappeared and saw her husband in the bed. She curled up next to him.

"Did you finish already?"

"I made a good start."
