Instructions: Story time. Zombies. Space. Remember, we recommend no more than 500 words!
The planets look great from up here; so full and colorful in the black abyss that was space. This had always been my dream - to be an astronaut. Everyone always told me I'd never get here, and yet I did. I proved them all wrong.
I was glad to be up here for that reason, but another one, also. From what's been coming through the radio communications, there's a Zombie outbreak going on back at Earth. The apocalypse is near and everyone is freaking out. My boss told me not to come back if I could help it because things were going for the worst. I tried telling him that I couldn't leave him there, but he requested, no demanded, that I didn't come back.
My family had to stay back, though. My mom, my dad, and my siblings. I wanted to rescue them from the pain and torture of it all, but it would put too many people at risk.
Thankfully, I didn't have a wife or kids to have left behind. That would kill me.
"I don't think Earth is going to be thriving much longer," one of my fellow colleagues announced, shaking his head. "From what the boss is saying, it looks like hell. Literally hell with fire and all."
I nodded. "I've heard. Quite disappointing to hear."
"Oh, definitely," he agreed before his eyes turned wide with horror. "O-Oh, my god!"
"What? What is it?" I pried, going over to him slowly. I was afraid he was going delusional due to being up in space for so long. "What do you see?"
He pointed outside the window. I turned to look and to my surprise, there they were.
"Zombies!" he screeched.
"But how?"
"They're like superhuman or some shit!"
I couldn't believe my eyes. They were flailing and gasping for breath, trying to float towards our rocket-ship.
We screamed for our other colleagues, telling them to speed up the ship so we could get away.
As I turned back, a zombie grabbed onto the window, groaning and clawing, wanting in. I beat on the window and a hopeless attempt of getting it away, only to break the glass.
"Shit," I muttered under my breath as it crawled through the window, more following. "We're in danger!"
My colleague returned, only to be tackled by a Zombie. He hollered as his arm he was being dug into and all I could do was witness it as I was too afraid to interject.
Our ship had been taken over and there was going to be no survivors...
