A-

A is for Adrien Agreste who got...rejected?

***

"So what do you say, Marinette? Will you be my girl?" Adrien asked, his lips brushing slightly against Marinette's, their foreheads magnetized with each other, and Marinette's bluebell eyes were wide.

It was a minute before Marinette somehow learned to breathe again. "No." She said and walked out, leaving a dumbfounded Adrien on the balcony.

Adrien blinked a few times before his eyes gazed on the door.

“What?” He asked no one in particular. What does she mean by ‘no’? “Marinette!” He called out but she was already gone. “I thought she loved me?” He frowned, scratched his head, paced around the balcony and hoped that Marinette was going to return and change his mind.

“Sir?” He heard Natalie called out. “The party is over, are you not going home yet?” She asked and Adrien blinked his eyes at her and stared at her blankly.

“Have you seen a girl with raven hair? Wearing a ladybug gown?” He asked, hoping that Marinette is still there and he could talk to her. He wanted an explanation, why did she say NO?

“I saw her earlier get in a car, sir.” Natalie replied. “She left ten minutes ago.”

Adrien sighed and ran his hand through his hair. “Right, uhm, you’re going with father, right? I’ll…follow afterwards.”

Natalie bowed politely before leaving Adrien alone once again. Once again, the moment earlier flashed on his mind, and Marinette’s voice echoed. The confession, playing like a broken record on Adrien’s mind was almost sending him insane. Adrien Agreste, the man who has everything, the man who gets anything he wants, got rejected by the girl he likes…who clearly liked him back.

That’s just nuts.

Was there something wrong with him? Clearly, there was, he was the so called cold-hearted boss after all. But she said she understands? But why did she say NO?

Adrien was on his car and was on his earphones, it was raining hard, Adrien fought the urge to break down again, but he managed himself and the earphones were great help. “Sir, I think we got a flat tire.” The gorilla speaks and Adrien took his earphones off, looking at him through the mirror.

“You’re kidding, right?” Adrien glared at him.

“I’m sorry, sir.” The gorilla stated.

“Oh great, now I’m stuck in the middle of the rain.” He said sarcastically. “What do you expect me to do, huh?”

The gorilla coughed. “I’ll…go get help, sir.”

Adrien rolled his eyes and put the earphones back on. He sulked on his seat while the gorilla went out, Adrien sighed, trying to block the memories of the accident. He thought of other things instead.

Croissants.

His swivel chair.

Plagg.

A very good salad.

Marinette.

Marinette.

Marinette.

Marinette.

He looked to his side and to his surprise, it was what he wanted to see.

Tom and Sabine’s pastries.

He immediately got out of the car, but immediately regretted that he didn’t bring an umbrella with him, he ran to the entrance and got inside. He looked around, and he blinked when Marinette’s parents stared at him. “You okay, son?” Tom asked and Adrien blinked.

“I uhm…my car, flat tire, I wanted…croissant, uhm…” Adrien mentally asked himself who he was and what he has done to himself.

“The croissants are over there.” Sabine smiled and pointed to where the croissants are. Adrien nodded and walked to where the croissants are, thought it was weird that they told him, knowing that he has bought a lot of croissants in this store for how long he has remembered. On the corner of his eyes he saw Sabine whispering something to Tom who’s eyes widened.

“WHY, YOU–” Tom suddenly yelled and Adrien turned around and gasped when he saw that Tom was about to charge on him.

“Dad?” A sweet voice said behind them and Adrien felt like he just had a heart attack. Tom turned around, and Adrien never thought how brighter the room got when he saw Marinette on her pajamas. “A-Adri-S-sir?”

Adrien coughed, looked at the tray of croissants he picked, then to Marinette’s parents, then to Marinette. “Hey.”

“Did you just ‘hey’ me, boy?” Tom glared at him and Adrien flinched a bit.

“Dad.” Marinette said sternly and grabbed Adrien’s tray and started counting on the croissants he bought. “What happened to you?” She asked when she noticed that Adrien was soaking wet.

He shrugged while paying the bill. “Flat tire, I saw your bakeshop and well, decided to buy some snacks while waiting.”

“It’s a hurricane.” She said seriously. “The rain won’t stop until tomorrow afternoon, it’s not safe for you to drive.” She thought for a while. “Stay here.”

Adrien’s eyes widened, and so did her parents. “What?” They all said in unison.

“I, I can’t—”

“I haven’t forgotten what happened to you the last time it rained.” Marinette stated and Adrien gulped a bit.

He didn’t want to break down after all.

After the Chengs’ whispered argument, Marinette climb to her room, and saw Adrien sitting on her pink chair, looking around her room. “You really didn’t have to.” Adrien said.

“I couldn’t just allow you to break down on the rain.” Marinette replied. “You can sleep on my bed, I don’t think you’ll get comfortable on a couch.”

“Marinette—”

“Don’t worry, there’s no bedbugs on my bed.”

“Marinette.”

“You can also have breakfast and lunch here tomorrow, until the hurricane leaves.”

“Marinette!”

“Though it’s just weird that there’s a hurricane in the middle of May, it’s probably the effect of Global Warming.”

“MARINETTE.”

Marinette gasped when Adrien used the voice on her. “What?” She squeaked.

“Why?” Adrien asked, desperation visible on his green eyes.

Marinette looked at him, and then at the door, in case her parents might hear, silence surrounded them for seconds, that only the raindrops hitting the roof can be heard, a single tear escaped Adrien’s eye and Marinette immediately wiped it with her finger and smiled sadly. “I’m sorry if you misunderstood it.”

Adrien looked at her confusingly, he grabbed her hand and held it. “What?”

Marinette looked down at their intertwined hands. “What I mean, is not yet.”

“Marinette, what do you want me to do?” He asked.

“I don’t know.” Marinette shrugged. “What you want to? I’m…just not ready for this yet.”

Adrien nodded. “I understand. I’ll wait for you, Marinette.”

“Why?” Marinette looked up at him.

Adrien smiled, and caressed her cheek. “You’re worth it.” Then he stood up and Marinette yelped when he carried her bridal style.

“Why am I worth it?” Marinette looked at him confusingly. “What are you doing?”

Adrien gently placed her in her bed. “Well, we both know we feel the same for each other, but you’re not ready, so I’ll wait until you will be.” He smiled as he tucked her sheets above her waist. “But right now, you should get some sleep, I’m cancelling work off tomorrow.”

“But, where will you sleep? This bed is enough for two people anyway, the couch is uncomfortable.”

“I’ll be fine.” Adrien reassures her. “Night, m’lady.” He went down without waiting for a reply and sat on the couch. He looked up to where Marinette was, and turned out that she was staring at him. Adrien did a thumbs up before taking his shoes and fake cat ears off and lied down on the couch. It was soft under his back and he smiled as he closed his eyes.

“N-no.” Adrien’s eyes suddenly opened, and the first thing he saw was Marinette’s pink wall clock which reads 3:17AM. He got up when he heard shuffling noises, and then groaning, he looked up and noticed that Marinette was moving uncomfortably. “No.” She whimpered. Adrien immediately ran and climb the stairs, realizing that she’s having a nightmare.

“Marinette.” He said softly and shook her a little to wake her up. Her eyes shot open, still panting, she got up and hugged him tight, Adrien’s eyes widened in shock, her heart beating fast against his chest. “It’s okay.” He hugged and rubbed her back. “It’s just a dream.”

Marinette slowly pulled away, still breathing heavily. “I’m sorry, I must’ve awakened you.”

“It’s okay.” He replied and smiled. “Come on, go back to sleep.” He lied her down and when he was about to leave, Marinette grabbed his hand.

“Stay?” She whispered.

Adrien looked at her in shock. “I, is it okay?”

Marinette nodded. “Please.”

Adrien nodded and got in the comforter and lied beside her. She sighed comfortably when she placed her head on his shoulder. He blinked, before deciding to wrap his arms around her, she was fast asleep and he smiled, since the bluenette looked adorable. “Good night.” He whispered before kissing the top of her head and drift off to sleep himself.

And indeed her bed was more comfortable than the couch.
