So here's the 2nd one! The characters in this are from an original story I'm writing. This is a bit of an Au for them, so it was a lot of fun to write. I LOVE ME SOME ANGST!- 😈

Nova let out a shuttering breath, groaning as the stab wound bled buckets of blood. If only she still had the knife. Then she could have kept it in the wound, allowing her to live longer.

Still, she knew her time was up and she wasn't going to waste it ignoring her emotions like she did so often. With trembling fingers, Nova typed in Maia's number on her phone.

It rang for twenty seconds, Nova getting increasingly more anxious as each space left more time ringing.

"Nova?" Nova sighed in relief.

"Oh hi Maia. Just wanted to check and make sure my storage is in order?"

"Yes. I have your contacts on the list. Zane organized everything. He is such a perfectionist, maybe more of one than you."
Nova snorted.

"Please. You know I love you guys right?" Maia mockingly gasped in shock.

"Did I just hear Miss computer hacker who runs on spite and coffee express such a trivial thing like emotion?"

"Yup. You got lucky. Don't expect a chance again." Nova pulled the phone away for a second to let out another gasp.

"Well that's just rude."

"Well, you know me Maia," Nova smiled into the phone, slowly lying down. She felt the pace of her heart slow dully.

"For the Moon Goddess's sake, just kiss already!" A tinny far away voice, probably Zane on the other end of the phone, called.

"Nah. We like to watch you suffer, don't we Nova?" Nova didn't respond, listening to Maia talk as she took her last breath.

Maia waited for the quick witty response, but received none. She began to panic.

"Nova? NOVA? ZANE GET ON HERE SHE'S NOT TALKING! THIS ISN'T FUNNY NOVA! NOVA!" Zane ran up to her. He looked at her sadly.

"Maia..."

"ZANE COME ON WE HAVE TO FIND HER! I CAN'T LOSE SOMEONE ELSE. NOT AGAIN. She's safe right? SHE'S SAFE RIGHT?!" Zane only looked on. Maia had panicked tears in her eyes.

"Maia, the police report came in. They found her stabbed to death in an alleyway. They suspect a hate crime or something more nefarious." Maia burst into sobs. "I'm so sorry Maia."

"I never even said I love you to her Zane! I didn't even say that! She's gone and I didn't even say anything worth saying. She's gone and the last thing I said was a stupid joke."

Maia fell to the ground, head in her hands.

"I didn't get to say goodbye."
