Chapter 60

What?

The room stilled.

Seunghyeon stared at Daehyun.

His face was drained of colour. He gripped the phone hard enough where Seunghyeon thought it might snap. Seunghyeon took a deep breath.

Taeyong was in labour. Myungsuk was lost.

Taeyong was alone. Myungsuk wasn't answering his phone.

Taeyong was scared. Myungsuk was probably scared too.

Seunghyeon's heart pounded against his ribcage. Taeyong was having his baby and they didn't know where Myungsuk was.

"Are you sure?" Daehyun asked slowly.

"Yes," Taeyong whimpered.

Seunghyeon's mind snapped with his instincts flooding in and he grabbed the phone. Before Daehyun could stop him, Seunghyeon turned on the speaker.

"Hyung, listen to me. You need to breathe. I'm sure crying is going to make it worse," Seunghyeon said, the words falling out of his mouth before he could think.

Taeyong sniffled. "s-Seunghyeon?"

"Yeah, it's me," Seunghyeon said. His instincts wavered for a moment, but he pushed through. "Now listen to me. Daehyun-hyung will take you to the hospital, and Kwangsun and I will look for Myungsuk and Insoo. Okay?" Seunghyeon looked up at the others. "Okay?"

Daehyun and Kwangsun nodded.

"Okay," Taeyong whispered. "Um, Seunghyeon. About what I said–"

Seunghyeon shook his head. "Forget about that right now. We can talk about that later." Seunghyeon cracked a smile. "Right now, we need to stick together."

"Okay." From the softness in his voice, Seunghyeon knew Taeyong was smiling. Seunghyeon handed the phone back to Daehyun. "We can go home and I can pick up the car."

Daehyun nodded and held his phone back to his ear. "Let's go then."

Nodding, Seunghyeon and Kwangsun rushed upstairs to grab their things. Kwangsun met Daehyun at the door first while Seunghyeon followed behind.

"What's going on?" Yoonah stepped out of Jeanie's room, her face half painted in pink glitter and her hair covered in hair dye. If it wasn't for the situation, Seunghyeon would have laughed.

"Uh, Myungsuk is lost and Sunny and I are going to go find him," Seunghyeon explained.

"He's lost?" Yoonah gasped. "Oh my Gods. Do you need us to help?"

Seunghyeon shook his head. "No, it's fine. Your hair, I mean–"

Yoonah placed her hands on his shoulder. "Seunghyeon," she said. "Jeanie and I will help. Let us help you."

Seunghyeon stared at her before nodding. "Okay," he said with a soft smile. "Thank you."

"Of course," she said and squeezed him in a tight hug. "Everything will be okay."

Seunghyeon nodded as she pulled away and hurried back into the room. Seunghyeon took a deep breath and ran down the stairs, jumping into the back of Daehyun's car.

Seunghyeon blared his car horn, gritting his teeth. "Come on!" he yelled as the cars around him moved at a sluggish pace.

"Hey, take it easy," Kwangsun said, placing his hand on his shoulder. "It's going to be okay."

"Is it?" Seunghyeon snapped. He raked his fingers through his hair, bouncing his knee. "They're not at Appa and Eomma's apartment. Yoonah and Jeanie haven't seen them on campus yet"–Seunghyeon took a deep breath–"Plus, look at the crowd."

The closer it got to midnight, the larger and rowdier the crowds of adults dressed in costumes grew. The streets were packed, the clubs were full, and the smell of alcohol was thick in the air. The worst possible scenario for Myungsuk.

"Kitty, we're almost there. Just breathe."

Seunghyeon forced himself to take a deep breath as Kwangsun squeezed his shoulder. He had to stay calm. For Myungsuk and Taeyong's sake.

Soon, Seunghyeon was able to take the turn down the narrow street, stopping the car at the door of the cafe. He fumbled out of the car and rushed to the glass door, stretching his neck as he scanned the dark interior.

Seunghyeon's heart pounded as he unlocked the door and pushed his way inside.

"Myungsuk!"

No answer.

"Myungsuk! Insoo!" Kwangsun called out, stepping in behind him. "I'll go check upstairs," he said.

Seunghyeon nodded. "I'll check the back," he said and hurried behind the counter.

It was pitch black and silent except for the whirring of the fridge in the corner. Seunghyeon's eyes blurred and his heart dropped. "Myungsuk? Are you here?" he called out in vain.

"Fuck." His mind raced. Where could he be? Why wasn't he answering his phone? Why did he go out in the first place without telling anyone? Was this their life now? Never connected and all over the place? It wasn't supposed to be this way.

"Kitty?" Kwangsun asked as Seunghyeon dragged himself out of the cafe. Seunghyeon locked the door before turning around, falling into Kwangsun's open arms.

Kwangsun brushed his fingers through his hair. "Take a deep breath and let's think again."

Seunghyeon squeezed his eyes shut, the gust of wind stinging his damp cheeks. "I don't know. I don't know," he whispered, his voice trembling. He gripped the back of Kwangsun's jacket, burying his face into his chest.

Kwangsun continued to pet him when his phone vibrated. Seunghyeon sniffled and glanced up when Kwangsun read his screen, tensing his jaw.

"What is it?" Seunghyeon asked.

"It's Yoonah," Kwangsun said and Seunghyeon held his breath. "They couldn't find them."

"Oh." Seunghyeon's body went numb and he tightened his grip around Kwangsun. "What if we don't find them," he whispered.

"We will," Kwangsun said, cradling Seunghyeon's cheek. "Myungsuk and Insoo are two smart kids. It's only a matter of time."

"But we don't have time!" Seunghyeon sobbed. He pounded his fist against Kwangsun's chest, his tears flowing. "The baby's coming! Myungsuk can't miss the baby!"

Kwangsun opened his mouth, but quickly shut in, opting to kiss the top of Seunghyeon's head instead. There was nothing he could say because he didn't know. No one knew anything.

"Let's sit in the car and call Daehyun to get an update, okay?" Kwangsun suggested.

Seunghyeon sniffled and nodded. "Okay."

They got in the car, Seunghyeon curling up in the passenger seat as he dialed Daehyun.

"Hello, Seunghyeon? Did you find them?" Daehyun asked as soon as he answered the call. Seunghyeon's chest panged and he glanced at Kwangsun.

"Uh, no. Not yet," Kwangsun explained, leaning over. "They're not at the cafe either."

Daehyun sighed. "I see."

"How's Taeyong-hyung?" Seunghyeon piped up. "And the baby?"

"He's good," Daehyun said. "Baby's stable. Right now, the nurse has him walking up and down the hall to help stimulate labour."

Seunghyeon furrowed his brows. "Isn't he in labour right now? And his water...?"

"He is, technically. But his contractions are too far apart to do anything right now. It may take a few hours."

"Oh," Seunghyeon sighed. "A few hours"–he glanced up at Kwangsun relieved smile. "Well, I just wanted to check-in. Call me if anything changes,"Seunghyeon added.

"Will do. For now, I think you two should go home. I've sent out a few more people to search."

Seunghyeon nodded. "Okay, hyung." Seunghyeon ended the call and sighed heavily, leaning back.

"Daehyun can send a whole search party? Wow, that's intense." Kwangsun chuckled as he started the car.

"Yeah, well"–Seunghyeon shrugged–"The perks of being rich, I guess." Yet, they haven't found Myungsuk yet.

Kwangsun's smile faulted and he brushed his fingers against Seunghyeon's cheek. Seunghyeon leaned against his touch and nuzzled his palm.

Behind the driver's seat, nestled in the corner, was Myungsuk's stuffed bear. Seunghyeon reached over and pulled it out, setting it on his lap.

Kwangsun raised his eyebrow. "A bear?"

Seunghyeon nodded. "Myungsuk's bear," he said and sighed. He flattened out its fur and traced it's glass eyes. "This was the last thing my grandma gave him before she died."

"He must really love it then."

"Oh, he does," Seunghyeon said and sighed softly. "Do you remember when you saved me from my ex?" Seunghyeon started.

"Saved?" Kwangsun smirked. "Why yes, I do. That's when you had to get Myungsuk when he had a meltdown, right?

Seunghyeon fondly rolled his eyes at him before turning back to the bear. "Insoo had to help me carry him to the car while Myungsuk clung to him. Which is normal for him, but usually once he can hold onto this bear, he lets go. But that day, he didn't want to let go of Insoo..." Seunghyeon let out a shaky sigh and hugged the bear. Deep in its fur, Myungsuk's sugary scent lingered and he bit his trembling lip.

"I should've known better that they had something special. I mean"–Seunghyeon chuckled as he wiped a tear–"I was being selfish."

"Selfish?" Kwangsun glanced over. "How is what you and Taeyong did, selfish? I think it's selfless. So selfless that you guys flipped it on its head and ended up hurting Myungsuk instead of helping him. You guys just went overboard."

Seunghyeon pursed his lips and sunk in his seat. "Do you think that's how Myungsuk will see it?"

"According to what Daehyun said, yeah." Kwangsun took Seunghyeon's hand and laced their fingers.

Seunghyeon nodded and kissed Kwangsun's knuckles before looking out the window. "Let's hope that's the case," he whispered, burying his nose into the bear.

The rest of the drive was relatively silent, except for the noise outside. Seunghyeon carried the bear with him inside the building as Kwangsun hugged him from behind in the elevator.

"Are you still stressed?" Kwangsun whispered.

Seunghyeon shook his head, staring at the numbers above the door. "Just wondering what I'll say when I see Myungsuk again." Seunghyeon sighed. "I'll probably get on my knees right away and apologize."

Kwangsun cracked a smile. "You can plan a whole speech to say too."

"Yeah. Long and eloquent," Seunghyeon smiled. "With lots of Galactica references."

Chuckling, Kwangsun kissed the top of Seunghyeon's head as the doors opened. Seunghyeon stepped out and froze.

Myungsuk and Insoo stood in front of the door of the apartment, his hand frozen over the keypad as he looked up and their eyes met.

"Myungsuk," Seunghyeon breathed out, his body buzzing, dropping the bear.

"Hyung," Myungsuk whispered and Seunghyeon's body bolted forward.

"Myungsuk!" Seunghyeon grabbed him into a huge hug, squeezing him with every ounce of strength, furiously nuzzling the top of Myungsuk's head before jerking back.

"You're freezing," Seunghyeon said, pressing his hands against Myungsuk's cheeks.

Myungsuk shivered and nodded, reaching out to hug Seunghyeon again. "We walked, that's why."

"Walked?" Seunghyeon gaped. "From where?"

"Insoo's house."

"What?" Seunghyeon's head snapped up at Insoo.

Insoo flinched and rubbed his arm as he hung his head. The tips of his ears and nose were red.

Seunghyeon pressed his lips into a tight line and held out one arm, pulling him into the hug.

Insoo gasped as Seunghyeon struggled to wrap his arms around their icy bodies.

"Um, Seunghyeon–" Insoo gulped.

"Thank Gods, you two are okay," Seunghyeon breathed out. "Thank Gods."

"Hyung," Myungsuk muttered and pulled back. "Are you crying?" he asked as he wiped Myungsuk's cheeks.

Seunghyeon shook his head. "I'm just relieved."

Kwangsun placed his hand on Seunghyeon's shoulder. "Why don't we get them inside and get warmed up. You two have a lot to discuss."

Seunghyeon took a deep breath as Myungsuk rested his head on Seunghyeon's shoulder. With a smile, Seunghyeon nodded, running his fingers through Myungsuk's hair. "Sounds like a plan."
