Part 15: The Cost of Discipleship

Luke 9:23-25:
"And He(Jesus) said to all, "If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross DAILY and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself[or his own soul]." (emphasis added)

There is no such thing as an 'easy' Christian life. There will always a cross that needed to be carried daily. Not a necessity to obtain salvation, rather as the fruit of genuine conversion.

I recall the words of the Prince of preachers, the late Charles Spurgeon, on one of his sermon he said, "Count you the cost, [and if you can't], go to your farm and to your merchandise and make the best out of it; only LET ME WHISPER THIS TO YOUR EAR:
'What shall a man profit if he gain the whole world [yet] forfeit his own soul?"

I have learned this recent weeks that the Lord Jesus Christ is indeed our Master, thus revealing the true essence of why we call Him as our Lord.

We are bought upon the purchase of His blood and we, as believers of Christ are owned by our Master- the Lord Jesus Christ. Not just a mere servant, rather as a SLAVE that is bought from the slavery of SIN to become a slave of Righteousness, in Christ; 'not with perishable things like silver and gold, but with the precious blood of Jesus Christ' (paraphrase;cf 1 Peter 1:18-19)
'Ye are not your own, for you were bought with a price, so GLORIFY GOD WITH YOUR BODY.' (cf 1 Cor 6:19-20)

Lordship is putting all of our will under the Sovereign will of the Lord Jesus Christ. It is coming the end of ourselves, giving ALL THAT WE ARE to ALL THAT HE IS.

Reflection:
Salvation is a free gift, but it will cost you everything. "Are the things you are living for, worth Christ dying for?" - Leonard Ravenhill
