Group Effort

Amara tore through her kitchen in distress on the verge of tears. She opened her pantry looking through all the drawers when she heard rustling behind her. She turned around to see Cench clutching his piece and her eyes widen in fear. She snaps her finger and he immediately turns to her. As soon as he lays his eyes on her he instinctively lowers the gun.

"Are you seriously about to shoot your pregnant baby mama?!" she says trying to hide the fear in her voice. "I didn't know it was you!" he whisper shouts at her putting the gun on the table and she just sighs. "Why are you still awake Amara?" he says, dropping down to her level. "I can't sleep," she says, burrowing her head into her hands.

"Why?' he says and she glares at him. "Because! Your baby won't stop kicking,I want my sister, and I'm hungry" she says as her voice breaks and she falls into a fit of sobs. Oakley sighs adjusting his hand to her. She looks up at him confused. "What?" she says wiping her tears. "We're going to Tesco's" he says and Amara can't help but smile at her ex lover.

"For Real?"

Amara skipped to the candy aisle giddily as Cee trailed behind her happy because he knows she's happy. She immediately grabbed two Cadbury Boost dropping them in the shopping trolly. She grabs Oreos and swiftly exits the aisle as if she's on a mission.

Amara's eyes darted across the aisles, searching for the next item on her list, but it was clear she was still distracted. Every few moments, she'd stop and place a protective hand over her round belly, feeling the subtle movements within. Cench watched her with a mix of concern and amusement, remembering similar late-night cravings from the early days of their relationship.

"Anything else you need?" he asked, scanning the list she had handed him earlier.

"Just some ice cream," Amara replied, a playful smirk forming on her lips. "You know, for the baby." She says shrugging as she continued to skip towards another aisle.

Cench chuckled, pushing the cart towards the frozen foods section. As Amara debated between chocolate chip cookie dough and double fudge brownie, Cench's thoughts wandered back to simpler times when the two of them would wander store aisles together, laughing and joking without a care in the world. The nostalgia was palpable, but he quickly pushed those feelings aside, focusing on the present moment.

"Do we have any tomatoes at the house? I want to eat with my ice cream." she turns asking him and he stares at her disgusted.

"That's disgusting"

Amara sat on her sofa watching "American Dad" as she ate her Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Ice Cream with tomato paste as Cench watched beside her disgusted. She looks at him and she lifts her bowl to him. "Want some?" she says and he shakes his head immediately. "That shit is so nasty Mars" he says and he immediately catches what he said as his face freezes looking at Amara who just shrugs.

"It's okay. We have to co-parent anyway." she says giddy off the fact he bought her food. He nods gratefully and they continue to sit in a now comfortable silence where they both silently enjoyed each other's company, something they had been missing for the longest.

Amara's mind wandered as she stared at her baby bump. "Cench can I ask you something" she says quietly. "Always" he says and she turns to look at him. "Why'd you do it" she says trying not to get emotional. "Mara I-Please?" she interrupts him pleading. Cench, noticing how her voice broke gives in.

"...It's not like I fell out of love with you. Never that. I don't even know how I got there. We had went to this one club after a show and I was missing you badly and shit. I went to the bar to get a drink and Kenza sat by me. She was getting mad close so I stopped talking entirely 'cause I was gettin' drowsy and next thing I know my legs was taking me somewhere. I woke up next to her. I promise I don't even know how I got there Amara-What?" She says interrupting his ramble and he stops in his tracks ready for her to scream but he's met with silence and Amara's hurt face.

"You got drowsy and you don't even remember?" she says as she tries to wrap her head around what she just heard. "Yeah but I don't remember even drinking that much. Mara i'm so sorry. I never meant...Are you okay" he said peering into her eyes as she looked like she was about to cry. "I'm so sorry. I should've listened to you. I'm so sorry" she says wiping her tears as he stared at her confused.

"What?" he says and she looks up at him. "Cench...She drugged you and she-she took advantage of you" she says and he stared at her confused.

Cench's eyes widened in shock and disbelief. The weight of the revelation hit him like a sudden storm, and he sat there, trying to process the information. Amara's words hung heavy in the air, filling the room with a tense silence.

"She what?" Cench finally managed to stammer out, his mind racing to make sense of the situation.

Amara took a deep breath, her eyes reflecting a mix of sorrow and understanding. "Cench, Kenza drugged you.You weren't in control of yourself. She fucking took advantage of you."

Cench stayed quiet as he tried to process what his ex lover was telling him. He had always thought stuff like that could only happen to girls. Maybe that's why he didn't pay it any mind. Maybe that's why he found it so hard to talk about.

Amara continued watching Cench, gauging his reaction. The room seemed to shrink as the weight of the revelation lingered, the air thick with a mixture of disbelief and anger. Cench's clenched jaw and furrowed brows indicated the internal struggle he was experiencing.

"She put something in my drink, and I didn't even realize it?" Cench's voice trembled, a blend of shock and frustration evident. Amara nodded solemnly, understanding the complex emotions coursing through him.

The silence stretched, neither knowing exactly how to navigate this newfound truth.

Cench sighed, the tension in his shoulders easing slightly. "I should've known," he muttered, directing a frustrated gaze at the floor. "I'm so sorry"

Amara shook her head immediately. "This isn't your fault Oakley. No one expects someone to drug their drink." she says as she takes her hand. "Can I hug you?" she says and he immediately nods as she wraps her arms around him in attempt to make up for lost time.

"I'm sorry" she says as she continues to hug him. "Don't be.You didn't know" he says as he holds on to her tighter. She pulls away from the hug and they both stare at each other's lips not wanting to look away. Cench leans half expecting Amara to back up but she stays in her position.

"Are you sure?" he said looking at her eyes and she nods quickly connecting their lips together. As their lips met, a gentle warmth spread through them, a subtle recognition of the unspoken connection that had endured the trials of their shared history. The kiss deepened, a silent conversation between two souls finding solace in each other's presence.

They both pull away at the same time and she rests her head on his, smiling at the touch of the man she had missed so very much. The room seemed to shrink around them as they lingered in the aftermath of that poignant kiss. Cench gently tucked a loose strand of hair behind Amara's ear, his touch lingering on her skin. In the quiet of the moment, unspoken words hung in the air, laden with the weight of the past and the fragile hope of a future yet to unfold.

"I never stopped loving you, Oaks," Amara admitted, her voice a whisper that held the sincerity of a promise. Cench looked up at him, her eyes reflecting a mix of emotions-vulnerability, longing, and the tentative spark of forgiveness.

A soft smile played on Cench's lips as he traced circles on her hand, fingers entwined. "Maybe we needed this time apart to find our way back to each other," she mused, her words carrying a sense of acceptance.

Cench nodded, acknowledging the complexity of their journey. "I don't plan on letting you go again."

The echo of laughter from the TV show they'd been watching earlier reminded them of the mundane world outside their bubble of shared intimacy. Amara chuckled, breaking the emotional tension. "We should probably finish that ice cream before it melts."

"Fuck no" he laughed and Amara laughed too feeling a high from the kiss they had just shared.

"You're acting like you didn't do this to me but okay" she said jokingly rolling her eyes.

"You're acting like it's not a group effort"
