❄️Chapter Six.❄️
Double update today, why not? I love this book.... and hopefully y'all do too.
Chapter Six.
"Brandy?"
She had stared at him blankly.
"What?"
Kodaviah had just given Brandy one of the Ferrero Rochers in which he wanted- mainly because his Grandmother Tiffany had forced him to do so.
But then at the same time, he really wanted to do so himself.
If he had realised that everything was for a food bank then he wouldn't have landed her into so much trouble.
Now he had realised the consequences of his actions. People really did reap what they sowed.
Brandy and Shanae were about to leave Savvy and Swiftly for good, that was until Kodaviah had realised that he hadn't apologised to her yet.
He wanted to do so now, although the words just couldn't come out.
He didn't know why.
Brandy kept on looking at him.
She still didn't know his name yet, although this didn't last for long.
"You OK, sir?"
It was endearing how they had sometimes called each other sir and ma'am. Kodaviah nodded, then he said everything after sighing.
"I'm really sorry," he frowned. "I was being obnoxious and rude. You deserved better. And it's so kind of you and your cousin to generously give to a food bank like that. The world has been pretty damn selfish lately. We need more people like you two. No joke."
Brandy hadn't replied to that.
Then she had faintly smiled.
"You were being selfish, yeah. But I hope you learnt something important from today."
He nodded.
Brandy then wanted to know what he had learnt, and Kodaviah told her.
- If someone had seen something first at the shop then it was automatically theirs to have. Unless they had changed their mind last minute and they didn't want it anymore. For one reason or the other.
- Don't fight over chocolate. Ever.
- Don't cause trouble, especially in public.
- You reap what you sow.
- Double check before assuming.
And then some.
Kodaviah had assumed that there was one packet of Ferrero Rochers left- aka the one Brandy and Shanae had, in which he wanted.
But there wasn't.
There were five, he just assumed there was one because he didn't check properly when the elderly woman was taking him down Savvy and Swiftly to get to the chocolate aisle.
Aka aisle 35/50.
In his defence though, they were moving really quickly, so in a way, Kodaviah didn't really have any time to check regardless.
"Good."
"We cool?"
Brandy had smiled, then she nodded.
They hugged.
And it was during their hug that Brandy had realised that Kodaviah had actually looked really familiar all of a sudden.
So did Brandy too, come to think of it.
Kodaviah wanted to know what university Brandy went to, with Brandy in the meantime wanting to know what Kodaviah's name actually was.
They had exchanged answers.
Brandy went to Cambridge like Kodaviah did.
"Kodaviah..." She had tried to recall that name and when she did, she had clicked her fingers at him in jubilation. "You're part of the Triple Ks, aren't you?"
He nodded.
The Triple Ks was what Kodaviah and his two other best friends from university had liked to call themselves as all their names had begun with K.
There was the funky and fresh one known as Khamil (Omar Epps).
Then there was the (street) smart one known as Kalahandra (Bumper Robinson).
Kodaviah was in the middle.
They were popular- not too popular but at least they were popular for good reasons. They had gotten good grades and everything.
Most of the time, anyway.
It was then revealed that Kodaviah and Brandy were doing the same course in university- Chemistry- although Brandy was one year older than Kodaviah.
Hence why they had never actually seen each other at university before.
They had exchanged numbers at the end, with Brandy kissing Kodaviah on the cheek when she had to leave.
At this point in time, she didn't have a boyfriend.
Kodaviah and Brandy had gotten real close over the past two weeks, but then all of a sudden, Brandy had stopped talking to him on the phone.
Which was when she had gotten a boyfriend.
She had told Kodaviah about it, so he had stopped texting her, which sucked because he was lowkey starting to develop feelings for her and they weren't going away anytime soon.
Brandy was someone he had looked forward to seeing yet was threatened to see at university.
Two weeks later - December 9th
Brandy was always the smart kid.
She had almost always gotten top grades in university.
Some people had looked up to her, but then some people had brung her down to their level instead, because they were insanely jealous of her.
Being smart had his amazing qualities, but then it had inevitably its flaws as well. The good always came with the bad.
Some people saw Brandy as a threat, so they were therefore rude to her out of jealousy but at the same time, they had expected her to know all of the answers.
Even if she didn't.
When Brandy failed a test or an assignment?
It went absolutely viral over university.
People would have been disappointed in her, with her mockers making fun of her. Which was the worst thing about being so smart.
Chemistry class was over for today, with the bell going off for it. They had just gotten their tests back, and Brandy had gotten the highest again.
90%.
Her smartness had assured her that she was going to pass second year, just like she had done with first year.
"Alright y'all, please work on your Chemistry assignment. It's due next week. You can use Brandy as a role model."
A lot of people had shot her a dirty look for that, but she had ignored them.
Screw what they had thought.
They had then headed out of the class, with Brandy's Chemistry teacher aka Mr Velazquez wanting to talk to her about something.
Mr Velazquez was insanely nice- and he was in his mid 70s.
One would have expected him to retire by now, but no. He needed the money.
He had congratulated her for her test score, which Brandy was starting to find jarring (teachers praising her for things) as it had just made people dislike her more.
But oh well, she couldn't have pleased everyone.
He also wanted her to join a science quiz.
Brandy wasn't too sure about that, to be honest.
"Why not? It would be an excellent opportunity,"
he had promised her, pushing his glasses up to the bridge of his nose.
He had dimples and grey hair, and today he was wearing some shabby brown dungarees, a checkered pastel yellow and white long sleeve top and brown sophisticated shoes.
Their university had a super strict dress code for teachers to be fair. It was probably because they were in Cambridge though, aka one of the best universities in all of the UK.
She had too many thing going on, but she would have thought about it.
She had then left the room, with Mr Velazquez reminding her to not let anybody bring him down at all.
Brandy had smiled at that, then she had left to meet her best friends Esther Marie (Mya) and Vishavané (Selena Quintanilla) outside.
Where they had promised they would have waited for her. Esther took Psychology and Vishavané had taken Maths instead.
