Chapter Twenty-four
"Serena, please tell me you finished your dress" Miette questioned me while I was putting away some boxes.
I sighed,"Almost, all I have left to do is serge a few areas and then I'm done," I explained while she nodded.
"That's good, I would never put myself through all that trouble though,"
"I know," I stated as we both walked back to the front of our boutique, "But it's always been my dream to make my own wedding dress," I gave her a smile while she shook her head.
"Of course," She laughed while a costumer came up to us. It was an old lady who was carrying a dress.
"You made your own wedding dress?" She questioned while I felt my cheeks heat up. She must of heard our conversation. I slowly nodded while her eyes perked up. "Do you have a picture of it?"
"Its not done yet," I admitted with a half smile and her mouth made an 'oh' shape. She then decided to place the dress on the counter.
"This is for my granddaughter," She began while I noticed it was the dress that I had designed and made. A younger girl with brown hair walked towards us as she wrapped her arm around the old lady, "She is from America," The old lady informed us while I gave her a smile. "My daughter finally allowed my granddaughter to visit,"
She took a minute to tell her that she decided to bring her to this boutique to buy her a dress for her prom. She described the event being an American thing which was understandable. "That dress was made by Serena," Miette pointed out as the old women eyes awed.
"I can see that your wedding dress must be very beautiful then," She smiled while I felt the urge of grabbing my hair to hide my shyness. We never told customers about us being the designers. It was best not to, since we learned that people act different around designers. And, we both agreed on wanting them to think we just worked here.
"Thank you," I stated while taking the maroon dress. "Would you like to have your granddaughter come in, and try it?" I asked as we had this policy where each customer should try it to see if anything had to be alter.
She nodded, while the girl was looking around. "Does she speak French?" I asked the old lady.
"Only a little bit," The women responded. I nodded as I studied the English language before. I kindly asked the girl to follow me, and she did. "You can try this on in there," I explained as she entered.
After a few minutes, she came out and the dresses fit her perfectly. She smiled at her appearance in the mirror. The old lady cheered as she sent her granddaughter to change into her normal clothes.
She explained while I nodded and scanned the tag.
Just as I was accepting the money, one of my workers came in. "Hey Serena," She greeted with a smile on her face.
I handed the women her change, and wished her a nice day. "Hello Luann," I greeted while she entered the backroom.
Miette was attending a customer, and I went back to the room. I entered my office which was filled with many undone dresses. Usually I would hand the final product to Miette, and she would give it to our small factory that made more in different sizes.
The boutique is popular, due to the fact that it is a little pricey. We were a small business far from having multiple stores around France, but I do have that as my dream a few years down the road.
Miette and I had met with a few businesses that had wanted to buy us. But, they all had different visions that we didn't like so we declined them.
I looked through the many sketches that were laying down on my desk and the unfinished dresses. Our focus were always dresses. Whether its separate, short or long. "Miette," I called out exiting the office.
She looked at my direction, and had another worker take over. "Yes?"
"When do the new dresses need to be done?" I asked while she took out her phone and scrolled through her inbox.
"By fall," She answered and I nodded realizing I still had a lot of time to finish the set.

"Serena" I heard Ash yell out my name from the other side of the door.
"Coming," I shouted back, and finished the last piece that need to be surge.
I lifted up the white dress, and a smile appeared on my face. It was really done. I took off my clothes to try on my finished dress.
The transparent sleeves weren't seen which I was glad for. I wanted the lace to wrap around my arms to show as if it was leaves coming from dress. Our theme was nature so, it made sense. The bottom was a mermaid tail style since I admired that type of design. I also knew it would look like nice with the lace, and I was able to adjust the length of the bottom since I knew I had to move around.
The back was my favorite since it was backless with only a white zipper shown surrounded by some lace.
Seeing how the dress looked on me made me ready to cry. The countless night of no sleeping finally paid off.
