60. Pasts and lies

For those of you not getting the reverse psychology of it all in the last chapter. Everything he told MJ about Hera was a lie. He only said he faked his death to show MJ the extent he went to "secure" his dads presidency so she believes him and instead of doing what he asked which is, not leaking or associating Lea and Peter to the Scandal, she does what he wants which is associating them to the scandal and not linking him to it. That way he can bring up having the company handed over to him without issues as he'd not only give Peter the solution to the scandal(which includes Lexis taking sole ownership over the company) but start the wheels towards his revenge.

The day goes by fast for lexis in between meetings and appointments. Sometime that evening, a group of people with various boxes bring files pertaining to Lea to his office. Files that he and Maeve would dig through for the next few days to pick the most beneficial to them.

Meanwhile back in his mothers home, Hera was seated with her shoulders slumped. She'd missed her flight. Her thousands of dollars flight. Dollars that could have gone towards paying Peter back were now lost to the airline and un-refundable. She'd spent the past hours searching for her passport and after not finding it she'd called the airline on a conference call with Jamie to figure out if they could get the trip postponed or get a refund. The airline agreed to put her on the flight going out the next day but refused to give a refund. After being told she could at least get a flight for the next day at no charge, she'd immediately unpacked everything in an attempt to find the passport to no avail. She'd turned the house upside down to no avail and tired had finally resigned herself to the fact that she might not find it.

As she stays seated thinking of how if she doesn't find it she'd be losing thousands in funds for the ticket, a thought occurs to her.

Could Lexis have taken it?

She immediately gets up hurrying to her room to get her phone and call him up but stops once she picks the phone up. What if he had nothing to do with her passport missing? What does she say is the reason she's searching so frantically for a passport she shouldn't need considering she shouldn't be traveling? She decides to call Jamie but it goes to voicemail.

"Mummy I'm hungwy," Shakespeare says peeping into the room. a sad look on her face.

Hera gets up and places her hands out for the little girl to hold leading her to the kitchen where she warms the left over Jollof-rice.

"Mummy what of daddy?"Shakespeare suddenly asks.

"Huh?"Hera says thrown off by the question.

"You said we'd see him but you said Mr Airport is not daddy and I have not seen daddy,"Shakespeare says her eyes welling up with tears. She'd endured for the past few weeks always getting side tracked by various things but all she really wanted was her father whom her mum had promised she'd get to see in America. It's been days and she had yet to see him.

Hera stays quiet and walks over to the seat next to the little girl.

"Shakespeare..."She says and pauses. What could she say?

"You're right we came here to meet him but he is no longer here," Hera says.

"What do you mean?" Shakespeare asks.

"I mean... you know how the evil queen gave snow white an apple that made her sleep for a long, long time?"Hera asks, Shakespeare nods.

"Well daddy ate an apple and he is currently in a very long  deep sleep," Hera finishes.

"So he needs a kiss to wake up?"Shakespeare asks.

Hera smiles.

"Something like that," She says ruffling Shakespeare's hair as she gets up.

"Let's go kiss him," Shakespeare says wiggling herself from the seat, ready for action..

"Wait, what?"Hera says turning back to look at her.

"We need to go kiss daddy, he's waiting for you,"Shakespeare says pulling Hera's hands.

"Shakespeare wait, we can't go kiss him," Hera says.

"Why?"Shakespeare asks frowning.

"Don't you want him to wake up?"Shakespeare asks.

"No Shakes, it's just... there's too many evil hunters around him,"Hera replies.

"But you're the evil witch of the west you are more evil!"Shakespeare says pouting. Hera chuckles as the phone rings.

She detaches her hands from Shakespeare's and walks over to pick it up.

"Jamie," She says when she finally picks up.

"Did you find it?"He asks.

Hera steps out of the kitchen.

"No I didn't, Jamie what if Lexis took it?"Hera asks.

"Lexis?"Jamie asks.

"Yes, what if he found out the truth?"

"I doubt it, the normal thing to do would be come confront you and meet Shakespeare if he found out the truth,"Jamie says.

"But that's the thing, Lexis doesn't do things the normal way and that's what scares me,"Hera says letting out a heavy breath.

"I don't know....I don't think so Hera. That's his child, regardless of how mad he is at you I don't see him totally ignoring his daughter just because he's angry or is planning some big revenge," Jamie says adding,

"You probably just lost it somewhere and it'll pop up in a few days,"

"I don't have a few days," Hera says.

"I told Peter I'll be leaving today I don't want to look a bigger liar than I already do in his eyes,"Hera says.

"Touche,"Jamie says.

"You know I wasn't blaming you," She says in reference to the money not being paid back to Peter.

Jamie sighs.

"Peter Black does not own America he doesn't get to dictate your staying or leaving," Jamie states.

"He might,"

"Well not right now he doesn't. And even as a president, he doesn't own the country, laws exist for a reason as do lawmakers. If he dares touch as much as a strand of Shakespeare's or your hair he'll know what it means to cross a Reynold," Jamie says causing Hera to chuckle.

"How scary," She says sarcastically.

"At least it made you chuckle,"Jamie says causing her to smile.

"Stop worrying. You have a family and friends that have your back, sometimes love wins over money," Jamie says.

"Sometimes it doesn't,"She replies.

"Stop being a killjoy. If you're that worried then move  back home," Jamie says.

"I can't travel without an ID," Hera says.

"Even if you did would you come home?" He asks.

Hera stays silent.

"You should move to your friends home till you get a new Identification. That way even I will sleep well at night knowing you're in the midst of someone that knows something about the law.  Though I don't trust her legal skills 100 percent I know she'll never let them touch you,"Jamie says.

"I'll re-pack and move tomorrow,"

"Cool let me know when you do, I'm traveling out of the country for a conference in two days but you can always contact me via viber if you need me," He says.

"Oh you are? What country?"She asks.

"Malaysia," He replies.

"Search again after a while, that way you're not agitated and have a clear head so if it's there and you missed it, you'll find it. Also call your friend to make sure you didn't leave it at her place,"Jamie says.

"I can't do that, if I do that she'll ask why I need my passport which will lead to her knowing I was going to leave again without informing her," Hera states.

"You were?"Jamie says surprised.

"Have you not learnt anything from five years ago? You don't just up and disappear from the lives of those who love and care for you, Hera that's just not okay," Jamie says.

"It was my only choice, if I am to really move on I need to cut off everything that reminds me of Lexis,"

"Seriously? As long as he is is alive don't deceive yourself into thinking that's ever possible," Jamie proclaims.

"I'm suddenly slightly hoping you don't find that passport. I may not like your friend but Hera someone who's been there for you like she has and will be if you need her, isn't someone you  treat the way you're planning to, that's just cold, she deserves better,"

Hera stays silent.

"They all deserve better," She replies sadly.

                                                                               ***

It was two days after the opening of Mixx and the announcement of Lexis as the new owner. He was currently seated in the living room of his dads mansions with the designer of their wedding outfits -who'd come to make sure their clothing were still fitting - and the wedding planner. The wedding was in a few days and Karen wanted to make sure everything was perfect.

"Wow Karen you look gorgeous!" The designer says getting up as Karen enters with her dress.

Lexis looks up from the document he was going over with the wedding planner and scans the dress which was a tube dress with an open back.

Karen giggles like a kid swirling around.

Lexis grins and gets up slowly walking over.

"What do you think?"Karen asks nervously.

Lexis walks around her as if searching for something and finally stops by her side. Tracing his lips, he tilts his head to her back eyes searching.

"Karen, where are your scars?"He asks his eyes gliding from her open back to her face, stopping on her eyes holding it's gaze.

"Scars? What scars? Karen doesn't have scars," The designer chimes in walking towards the both of them.

Lexis raises his eyebrows.

"She doesn't?" He asks almost mockingly.

Karen quickly sucks in and releases her cheeks.

"Karen?" Lexis says.

"I...they're... Rita of course you don't know about my scars, I never told you I had scars and you never got to see my body," Karen says walking up to the designer and patting her hands.

"If she didn't see your body how did she know your size?" Lexis asks.

The designer opens her mouth to speak but Karen squeezes her arm, her nails mildly digging incasing the designer to frown in pain and understanding.

"I sent my measurements over," Karen says.

"Is that so?" Lexis says nonchalantly.

"Lexis, you should go try on your suit," Karen says trying to change the topic as Lea steps in.

"What are you doing?!"Lea exclaims in horror at the sight of Karen in her wedding dress.

Everyone except Lexis who had a look of "disinterest" glances at her with a confused expression.

"Don't you know it's bad luck for the groom to see the bride in her dress before the wedding?" Lea says.

"Surely you don't believe such superstitions," Karen says waving away the theory while thankful for Lea's interruption.

"Let's see if you feel the same when Lexis doesn't show up," Lea says.

"Don't Jinx me!"Karen exclaims in horror.

"Won't be the first wedding I miss," Lexis says taking a sip of his wine as he sits down.

"Lexis!"Karen says chiding him, a frown on her face.

"What? Didn't you did say we were meant to get married five years back and that was how I got into an accident? On my way to our wedding," Lexis says.

Karen and Lea's gazes meet for a couple of seconds.

"Except that was a lie,"Lexis adds raising an eyebrow.

"It wasn't," Karen quickly says.

"It wasn't,"Lea affirms.

Lexis glances from one to another as he gnashes his teeth and raises his brow.

"So we were both to be married five years back?" Lexis asks.

Karen nods.

"Of course," Lea states searching his face. There was something about him...it was almost as if... she shakes her head.

"Impossible," She thinks to herself.

Lexis lets out a deep breath as he gets up.

"Well, I promise to see to it that history doesn't repeat itself," Lexis says walking out of the room.

How have you been? I've been working back to back. We lost our other Night shift person and all the new folks keep quitting so I've been busy, nothing new on my end. What about you?
