Crown jewel day!
Sunday, it all begins! Formula 1, IndyCar, and NASCAR will have major races all throughout the day! In the morning, it'll be about F1 at its Monaco Grand Prix, IndyCar will have the Indianapolis 500 in the afternoon, and to finish off the day, the NASCAR Cup Series will run the Coca-Cola 600. Lots of bug stars want to win these big races, but only 3 will get it done, who will they be?
Monaco Grand Prix
1st Fernando Alonso
Bold yes, but you know what? The stars may be aligning for the 2-time world champion to get his 1st win since the 2013 Spanish Grand Prix. With Perez starting last, he only has 1 Red Bull to battle with for the win. If they mess up, Alonso will be there to capitalize.
2nd Max Verstappen
After a thrilling qualifying, Verstappen starts on pole for the first time in his career. When he won the race in 2021, he started 2nd. However, Leclerc did not start the race so Max inherited a net pole. Verstappen has been on incredible form this year, but streaks don't last forever. Circumstances, or a mistake can take out a win in F1's biggest race.
3rd Lewis Hamilton
Definitely after a qualifying that Hamilton had to fight all the way to the end to get a decent position on the grid. So far, dare I say the upgrades appear to have made progress on the Mercedes, while it looks very hard to win at the moment, another podium will put Lewis and the team in a better position with confidence and momentum to return to the top step soon.
Indianapolis 500
1st Scott Dixon
With everything Scott has accomplished, winning multiple Indy 500s is not one of them. While he was victorious in 2008, he has not drank the milk ever since. The 6-time champion has led the most laps out of any driver ever at the Indianapolis 500. The series is extremely competitive right now, the 9 car hopes to get victory number 2 in this race this weekend.
2nd Alex Palou
Chip Ganassi has been fast this weekend, Palou now has the record for the fastest qualifying ever in the Indy 500. Since joining Ganassi, the 2021 Series champion has looked fast in this race finishing 2nd to Helio Castroneves in 2021 and leading early last year until an untimely yellow put him out of contention. The Spaniard looks to maintain his champion lead today but who knows, he might get some milk if something happens to Dixon
3rd Will Power
Reigning 2-time IndyCar champion Will Power has looked like the best Penske car throughout practice. So far, this year has been quiet for the Australian, but he can turn up the heat really quickly. Plus, last year, he played the long game to perfection to claim his 2nd championship so of he can surprise some people with that feat and with the way this year is playing out, consistency will be key to who wins the 2023 championship.
Coca-Cola 600
William Byron
Almost 29 years ago to the day Jeff Gordon drove the 24 car to his first career win. Now current driver William Byron has the most wins out of any driver in 2023. While many are already saying Larson is the favorite for the title, 2 of William's wins this season he outdueled the 2021 Cup champion. While the season is still long, it's a matter of time before Byron earns a crown jewel victory. It could come in NASCAR'S longest night.
