A couple days ago I was thinking about some of the down sides of childhood, but probably the single biggest upside to it is the nearly complete lack of responsibilities.  When you're a kid you think you lack freedom because there's always an adult telling you what to do and you can't do what you want when you want.  But having no responsibilities is about the most freedom you can possibly have.  

Don't get me wrong, there are some responsibilities I don't mind taking on too much, like taking care of my dogs and cats, but having to pay bills and show up on time for work and whatnot is less awesome.  

Over the weekend the battery in my car went kaput and when I took it into the shop they discovered it also needed a new oil pan.  I think I might have damaged the old one when I drove over a ditch recently.  I remember hearing a scraping sound on the underside of my car.  And then our other car has a headlight out and the mirror has come loose on the driver's side and there's something hanging down from the bottom of the vehicle.  All in all these are proving to be not exactly cheap fixes.  But I've gotta be responsible for them and I need my car to attend to my other responsibilities.  All in all it's a bit of a soul crushing cycle.  I'd love to go back to being responsibility-free.  I just also want to do what I want when I want.
