So since we're already past the halfway point of July I think I'll continue my tradition of learning where the names of months come from.  I'm pretty sure I actually know this one already.  From what I recall July and August were both months added later to the calendar and named after Caesars, Julius and Augustus respectively.  But I'm going to go read about it and see if there's any more interesting info I didn't know.  Be right back.

Okay, I learned a couple of interesting things I didn't know.  It is for sure named after Julius Caesar and I guess he was born in the equivalent month of Quintilis in the Roman calendar.  This actually meant fifth month, which was where it happened to fall in that calendar.  After the death of Julius Caesar it was renamed in his honor.

Also, and I think I was dimly aware of this, Julius Caesar instituted a new calendar system called the Julian calendar, which is still pretty much what we use to this day.  It contained 365 days and a leap year every 4 years.  So I guess there's sort of a legit reason to honor the guy on the calendar.
