I went to take a shower this morning and there was no hot water, which is always a real bummer.  I hate cold showers.  Even in the summertime, I just find them deeply unpleasant.  So it looked like the pilot light went out on the water heater.  The same thing happened a few years ago and I ended up having to relight it a few times before it finally stayed on.  I relit it a couple hours ago.  I couldn't remember exactly how to do it, but luckily there's pretty good instructions on the side of the water heater.  They kind of put the fear of god into you though.  It sounds like the whole thing could catch fire or explode if you do it incorrectly or if there's a gas leak or something.  As of now the pilot light is relit and the water heater is intact.  Now it remains to be seen if it will stay lit and not cause any further issues.  All I know is I really, really don't want to have to buy a new water heater.
