Today is the summer solstice, which means in the northern hemisphere where I am there's more daylight than any other day of the year.  It also marks the official start of summer, even though it's already been feeling pretty much like summer for a while already here.  When I was a kid I really liked this time of year and how late into the evening it would stay light.  I still kind of like it except for the fact that I have to go to bed early for work and it's kind of weird seeing it still be light outside and knowing I have to go to bed soon.  

I suppose that would be even more compounded if I lived further north.  In Alaska about now it hardly gets dark at all.  That would be strange.  I do remember visiting Norway during the summer and being outside in tossing a frisbee around in what felt like late afternoon but looking at my watch I remember it being nearly midnight.  That was definitely strange.  

In other news I have to go take an exam today to retain my professional certification for work.  I'm required to do it every 10 years or something and it's official enough that I actually have to go to a testing center to take it.  I am woefully unprepared for it, but I've already been putting off taking it for almost a year.  The good news is I can't lose my certification due to bombing the test.  I just will get assigned continuing education units I'll have to complete.  I'm not looking forward to that, but I'm expecting to have to do a lot of continuing education units.  It's been a long time since I was in school and I just don't remember this stuff anymore.  Oh well, I'm not going to stress too much.  I'll just go in there and hope a few questions at least ring a bell in the old noggin, but I'm not expecting to do too well.  Perhaps I'll give an update on how it went tomorrow.
