Our dog Johnny has a decent number of pills he has to take for allergies and blood pressure and his liver and other things.  Most dogs are easy to give pills to.  Just dunk them in some peanut butter and voila.  But not Johnny.  He's never been the easiest going dog and he has a stubborn streak a mile long.  In the early days he would take the peanut butter, but after a while he caught on and then he would refuse to take it and it would make a huge mess trying to shove peanut butter into a dog's mouth who didn't want it.  We switched to sour cream and that worked for a little while before he started refusing to take that as well.  I think we tried a couple other things before finally investing in pill pockets.  Those worked like a dream for a while and he was gobbling his pills down no problem, but now he's started getting difficult with those as well.  I can usually eventually get him to take them, but involves a lot of spitting them out and shoving them into his mouth and the whole thing is a huge hassle.  This morning I had to give up for a while because he was just absolutely refusing to take them.  I made another attempt a couple hours later and although there was still some turning up his nose and spitting them out he finally swallowed them.  But jeez.  That was not the slightest bit easy.  We're going on some vacations later this year and I feel bad asking someone else to go through that every day while we're gone.  I guess we'll cross that bridge when we come to it.
