Ugh.  Yesterday ended up being a long, not-so-awesome day, but I don't really want to dwell on it.  On the plus side, I finally finished reading my first book of the year: A Breath of Snow and Ashes by Diana Gabaldon.  It's book 6 of the Outlander series, which I've been slowly making my way through over the past few years.  Overall I liked this one, although there were maybe some pacing issues as some sections seemed to drag a smidge and other parts seemed a little rushed to me.  But it kept my interest all the way through, and like all of the Outlander books, it's a brick at nearly 1,000 pages.  

I'm trying to read 55 books this year for the Goodreads reading challenge and starting the year off with a massive book has already put me behind schedule, but that's okay.  I guess I'll have to read a few short books to catch up.  I will say that although I enjoy doing the reading challenge, it does sometimes dissuade me from tackling longer books and I like reading long books sometimes.  It's fun to just get lost in a long book once in a while and really get absorbed in its world.  I'm not going to worry too much about it.  I'll read what I feel like.  I'll probably try to read the next Outlander book at some point this year, but I think I'll take a little break from it for now.  Next up I'm going to check out The Woman in Black by Susan Hill.  It was recommended to me recently, and it also looks like a nice short book, which will help my reading challenge numbers.  I'm guessing I can probably polish this one off in a few days.  Maybe even a couple days, depending on how much time I put into reading.  I think I saw the movie of this a while back, but I don't really remember it all that well.  Plus, books tend to be better than their movie adaptations.  At any rate, I think I'll sign off and start doing a little reading!
