Our dog is on a few medications, one of which the vet can't provide themselves and has to be picked up at a pharmacy.  It's a little pricey and after calling around we determined that Sam's Club's pharmacy had the cheapest asking price for it, so we get it filled there.

Sam's Club is one of those member's only type of stores and I am not a member there, but due to some kind of law I don't understand they have to offer their pharmacy services to everyone no matter what.  So we've been getting the dog's prescription there for several years.  You still have to go into the main entrance though to get to the pharmacy and thus walk past the employee guarding the entrance from the non-member riffraff.

I must look really suspicious or something, because every time I go there I see tons of people just walking right in, but they always try to stop me and ask to see my membership card.  And then I have to explain I'm going to the pharmacy and they let me go.  It's not really that big of a deal but sometimes they don't seem to understand what I'm saying the first time and I have to repeat myself a couple times before they wave me on.  Meanwhile all these other people keep strolling right in all around me without being asked to show proof they're among the chosen ones.  It's the principle of the thing.  I just want to be accepted as a Sam's Club person, even though I'm not.

Just yesterday I went in there and I thought to myself "I'm going to project an air of confidence like I belong here" and I made it all the way past the employee and several steps into the store before I heard a voice calling out behind me "Sir, I need to see your membership card."

The jig was up!

I considered pretending I hadn't heard and just continuing on my way, but then they might call security on me or something and I'd have to go through a bigger rigmarole to explain myself and that would be a waste of several people's time including mine.  So I just sighed and turned around and said I was going to the pharmacy, upon which they said "What?"  And I had to repeat myself twice before I was allowed to proceed on my way.

Then I got to the pharmacy and they told me my dog's medication was on a manufacturer back order and was unavailable and they didn't know when it would be in stock.  Sigh.

I used to work as a pharmacy tech, so I do understand about back orders.  I also know how often pharmacy techs get yelled at over stupid trivial stuff, so I just smiled, said it was okay, and went on my way empty-handed.  Luckily there's a separate exit than entrance, so the employee who stopped me didn't see me walking out without any medicine from the pharmacy.  I wouldn't want them to think I'd lied to them and taken a joy stroll through Sam's Club.  Because then my picture might go up on the wall and I'd REALLY get hassled every time I go in there.
