i sometimes dig myself

the proverbial hole

so deep and dark

it almost swallows my soul

but i have never been

one to back away

from the challenges in life

that arise from day to day

i figure if you don't try

you'll never know what you can do

you have to go after things

very little ever comes to you

so i often set limits

far beyond my reach

but to me failure

is just a figure of speech

so what i am saying

is not new or profound

but you will never reach the stars

standing on the ground
