Too late - Vikings - Hvitserk x Reader

"You have to stop........." Hvitserk heard, before he turned to find that Ubbe was right behind him. The younger Ragnarsson having no idea how his brother had been able to get so close without him knowing.

"I have to stop what..........?"

"Hvitserk, Ivar may be blind to the feelings that you have for (Y/n); but he won't stay that way, forever. And if he comes to believe that you have even the slightest desire for her, you will be lucky if he only kills you........."

"Feelings........for (Y/n)? What are you talking about. I don't have any feelings for (Y/n). She is just my friend........." Hvitserk scoffed, as he managed to take his eyes from the shieldmaiden as she trained in the cleaning in the woods. Ubbe doing his best not to roll his eyes at his brother's protests; especially as he knew better than anyone that Hvitserk had been in love with (Y/n) for years. The oldest son of Aslaug never able to understand why his younger sibling had never said anything to her. Why instead of marrying the rather beautiful young woman and having a family, he had instead chosen to fuck anything that would open her legs for him. And now, now his chance to claim her, had gone. For, for while Hvitserk had enjoyed his dalliances, Ivar had made his move; and now he and the shieldmaiden were only days away from their own wedding. Ubbe not blind to the shock on Hvitserk's face, as the impending nuptials, had been announced.

"And I would like to see Ivar try and kill me........."

"There is no point being mad at our brother. You cannot blame Ivar for this. You should have told (Y/n) how you felt, years ago; and then you would not be having to stand by and watch as our youngest brother gets what you want." Ubbe retorted, as he took a seat on an old tree stump. Hvitserk letting out a heavy sigh, at his older brother's words.

Ubbe was of course right. Hvitserk sure that Ubbe always seemed to be right. None of this was Ivar's fault; the only one to blame for any of this, was himself. It had been a foolish notion really, a notion that despite the fact that he had never said anything to her; that he had always made out that he and (Y/n) were just friends, he had believed that once he had finished sowing his wild oats, she would still be there; perfect, untouched and unwed. That when he was ready to settle down, she would accept his proposal. That she would throw herself into his arms and tell him that she had been waiting, saving herself just for him. But he had not counted on Ivar; his younger brother finding a way into the exquisite shieldmaidens heart, without him knowing. And even though he was sure that again, Ubbe was right, and that Ivar would probably kill him if he found out that he wanted to be more than (Y/n)'s friend; he still couldn't help but think that his brother did not deserve her. And if he could only talk to her, if he could explain, it might not be too late.

"Ubbe......Hvitserk........" A voice called out. The brothers both smiling as (Y/n) finally realised that she was being watched and made her way over to them.

"Come and help me practice. Animal carcasses don't put up much of a fight." (Y/n) continued, as she sheathed her sword.

"I can; but Ubbe has things to do. Don't you, brother........" Hvitserk said. Smiling as he looked between (Y/n) and Ubbe who was shaking his head.

"Hvitserk.....don't......."

"Don't you, Ubbe...........?" Hvitserk countered, as he turned to look at his sibling. Ubbe knowing that he could say nothing when he saw the pleading look in his brother's eyes.

"Yes.........I have something to do........" Ubbe sighed, as he got to his feet. Believing that the best thing to do now, was hope that whatever Hvitserk was up to; it wasn't something that would get back to Ivar. Hvitserk smiling broadly, as he stepped forward and placed his arm around (Y/n)'s shoulders, before leading her back over to the training area.

                                                     >>---------------------------------------<<

"You cheated........." (Y/n) laughed, after both she and Hvitserk fell to the floor. A broad smile gracing the prince's features, as he stared down at her, savouring the fact that he found himself nestled between her legs.

They had been fighting for some time; not that was anything unusual. The shieldmaiden having honed many of her skills by training with the sons of Ragnar. And before Ivar had announced that he and (Y/n) were to be wed, most of that training had been with Hvitserk. The pair spending many an hour in the training area, practicing and talking, and just enjoying one another's company.

"I would never........."

"Oh yes you would, Hvitserk Ragnarsson........" She retorted. Letting out a squeal as Hvitserk began to tickle her sides. Her movements beneath him making his mind race. The words slipping out of his mouth, as their bodies wrapped around one another's.

"I love you..........." All movement and laughter stopping, as the three words filled the air and seemed to surround them.

"You........you love..........?"

"Yes. I have loved you for years........." Hvitserk further confessed. His brows furrowing as (Y/n) pushed him off her and quickly got to her feet.

"You........you have loved me for years? Then......then why say nothing before now? Why tell me that now, when I am two days from being wed to Ivar. Why would you do that, Hvitserk..........?" (Y/n) enquired in disbelief. Pushing him away as he got to his feet and tried to take her hands.

"I know I should have said something. But that is why I am telling you now, so that you know that you don't have to marry Ivar, if you don't really want to. That you and I could run away together, and............"

"No, Hvitserk.........." (Y/n) snapped back.

"Despite what you, Ubbe, Sigurd and everyone else says about Ivar, I love him, and he loves me; I know he does, and I want to be his wife. Yes, I admit that there was a time that I would have given anything for you to tell me that you loved me; that you wanted more than just my friendship. But instead of confessing your feelings, you had almost every other girl in Kattegat warm your bed and your cock. And now, when I have a chance to be happy. When I have a man that is mine; a man who actually told me how he feels for me, you want to spoil everything by telling me, this..........? No, Hvitserk; you don't get to do this. It's not fair. Its too late." The shieldmaiden scoffed, as she picked up her sword, sheathing it before quickly making her way from the clearing. Leaving Hvitserk all alone, with nothing more than the knowledge, that yes, he really was too late.
