CHAPTER TWENTY ONE: HIS PAST

~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^

Seunghee would sometimes meet Chanyeol after classes whenever Jeonghan wasn't around. He would not even show up everytime Sehun was with her. But she did not suspect him of anything. He would only talk to her for a short while every time. It was nothing out of ordinary. So she did not tell Jeonghan about the issues concerning Chanyeol. She concluded it was not necessary for him to know since he was just an acquaintance. But in the end, it was a very wrong decision she had made.

"So what do you want to do for tonight?" Jeonghan asked.

It was their third month together and Jeonghan's last week at his part-time job.

"Can we go to the theme park again? The last time we did was when Kevin-oppa was here," Seunghee replied.

"Tonight? Are you sure? It's nicer if we go during the day."

"It will be wonderful to see the night lights. You didn't seem to like it there the last time we went. Thought I didn't notice huh?"

He was surprised. So she's been watching him too since then.

"And tell me about your parents. You haven't been talking about them. I don't even know what they do for a living."

"We better not talk about my parents Seunghee."

She saw something in him that he has never shown before. There was sorrow in his eyes that was hard to fathom.

"Okay, I won't force you to tell me but we have to go the theme park tonight okay?"

"Alright. If that's what you want."

His expression didn't change. It made Seunghee feel a bit concerned and afraid at the same time. She just realized she didn't know all of him yet. But she'd strive to know. She didn't want to have a gap between them because of it.

Seunghee dragged Jeonghan to the theme park by 7pm. She disregarded the fact that he was uncomfortable there cuz she really wanted to know why. She was pushy right. And Jeonghan knew that too.

"Dad extended my curfew for tonight. I can be home by 12mn," Seunghee uttered.

"Just like Cinderella huh," Jeonghan said.

"Yup! So we can take our time here. And within this time, I hope you're willing to tell me before the night ends. About your parents."

"Seunghee..."

"I'm pushy alright. I don't care if you get annoyed with me. I just want to know everything about you. Okay?"

She held his hand. And he held it tighter.

"I won't ever get annoyed at you. You know that."

"So be ready to tell me later."

She gave him a smack and smiled innocently at him. He surrendered. There was nothing she couldn't and wouldn't get out of him. And there was nothing he could and would hide from her either.

"Later, when we ride the Ferris wheel."

"Okay!" she exclaimed.

They spent some time playing in the booths. They enjoyed their time for a while. But as they were playing, Jeonghan was still contemplating whether to tell her everything or not. He was afraid she would be shaken by his story. It wasn't a pleasant one, unlike her flamboyant childhood. But nevertheless, he made up his mind not to keep it a secret from her. She was the person he would devote his whole life to. It was something she needed to know.

They finally took the 20-minute ride on the Ferris wheel. The huge amusement ride was at the center of the park. They could see the whole city from both sides. It was glimmering with city lights.

"It's better right? This way you can have a change of view of the theme park in your memories," Seunghee started.

"Yeah. My mother used to bring me here when I was about 4-5 years old. She would seldom do that so I clearly remembered this place. It was the only place she could be superficially happy with me," Jeonghan began sharing.

Seunghee could see the look in his eyes. That piercing sadness again, she thought. He was staring down and out the window as he continued to tell his story.

"I am a bastard. My mom and dad did not raise me together. I was born out of hatred by mom cuz I was a love-child."

Seunghee was shocked. She never anticipated his history to be like this. She held his hand tight.

"Jeonghan..."

"It's okay. You need to know everything about me. You have to know this."

She nodded. He knew she would pity her, he knew she would feel sorry for him but he can't change his past. All he had to do was face up to the future.

"My dad was the CEO of the company my mother worked at and she was his secretary. He loved her but she did not feel the same. But something happened to them during a trip. And so my mom got pregnant with me. Dad became so happy. He thought she would submit to him when they have a child but it went the other way around. Her refusal of him only got stronger. But he loved her so much, he kept pursuing her. Only that his doings bounced back at me instead. Mom abused me. She would always hurt every time dad would come over. And she said seeing me only made her remember him. My childhood was barely a happy one with mom."

Seunghee started tearing up. She felt so hurt for him. She had no idea he suffered so much in the past. He wiped away a tear on her cheek and looked somberly at her. He didn't want her crying but he had to continue.

"Then mom committed suicide."

Seunghee could not take it any longer. She hugged him firmly.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to make you recall all of these memories. I'm sorry Jeonghan."

She was crying unstoppably. She felt so guilty. It was a total shock for her. The person she loved had to live through such a horrible past. But she could not see any of it in him. Every day when they were together, she had always thought he was pampered and loved by his parents much more than her. But learning this tragic past from him, she felt so much remorse.

"It's okay Seunghee. Calm down."

Jeonghan patted her back. He could see how affected she was. But this past made him the kind person he is today, and that was something he was thankful of.

"But because mom died, dad took me in and my life changed."

Seunghee slowly let go and faced him. He was smiling and her weeping gradually faded too.

"Dad spoiled me. He gave me everything. He's always there when I need him, either with material or moral support. And he never married. He only had mom in his heart. He may have driven her to her death, but it wasn't his fault that she didn't love her. She was the only person he ever loved. If only she did not die, he was willing to wait for her all his life. And he hoped someday she would eventually be able to accept him. And up till today, he wishes that he'd be able to be with her in the afterlife. He's funny, he never misses to keep a picture of her in his wallet. And he talks to her everyday, he looks silly. I grew up watching him, like that."

Jeonghan was finally smiling. Seunghee was thankful. He cupped her face gently.

"And that's what made me who I am today. I wanted to be like dad. To be able devote my life to only one person. To only one girl. To only one woman. And that's you. That's you Seunghee."

She felt overwhelmed. She held the hand on her face and nuzzled with it. She had to thank that man, that person who brought him up and brought him to her life. Seunghee loved Jeonghan so much. She had never been so certain in her life. And it was never going to change.

"I will wait for you until you decide to spend your whole life with me. I won't rush things and I won't ask for anything else. Just you Seunghee. Just you."

"And I will be staying by your side till that time comes."

Seunghee kissed him ardently and wholeheartedly. She decided would give him what she could from then on until they reach that time. That time when they could be together everlastingly. Jeonghan was the happiest guy in the world that moment. He would let no one take her away from him. With her, waiting for forever didn't seem long enough.

Until he got carried away again and took the kiss deeper. Seunghee had to shove him away again.

"Is your patience this short?"

Jeonghan timidly laughed. "I'm sorry."

Seunghee then cuddled with his arm.

"Thank you for sharing your life with me. I wish to meet your dad one day."

"You will. If ever he pays a visit, I'll let you meet him."

"What business does he do anyway?"

"He's a stockholder right now."

"Of what establishment?"

"The plaza."

Seunghee was amazed. So they owned the plaza. And if that was not enough, he added something.

"And this amusement park."

"Really?"

"Just joking."

Jeonghan laughed at her. She looked so surprised, he wanted to tease her again. She just pouted.

"I'm sorry. But seriously, not this amusement park. Just the plaza."

"Alright. I won't ask again."

"I love you so much."

Seunghee obliged though.

"I love you Jeonghan."

Seunghee was happy Jeonghan was finally on his last week at the store. His loans were almost paid and he did not have to extend his job. His dad also sent him extra money, unable to withstand the thought of his son getting all worked up for a little sum of money he refused to give him. Seunghee was really glad about the relationship of the father and son. Maybe his mother didn't get the chance to show him her love, but his father showered it to him more than enough.

~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^

During that week, Seunghee could hear and feel someone following her whenever she was alone. She tried to catch the person but she never did. It only happened that week but she was sure someone was following her. She did not tell Jeonghan yet. She didn't want him to worry. And besides, it was his last week on work, they'd be together going home again after that week. And maybe she was just being paranoid, she thought. But actually, she wasn't. Someone was really stalking her, watching her every move from a distance. And soon, that person would come into light.
