Chapter 49: A Perfect Family

“The rain is so heavy…”

Even if we were those kids, why Beomgyu hyung can’t remember it? And I don’t think we lived at a province before knowing how my family is so well off but maybe if it was a vacation? Judging by the season, it was summer.

“Taehyun?”

Sighs. How can I even start arranging this puzzle when there are a lot of hidden pieces?

“Kang Taehyun?”

“H-huh? What?” I reacted confusedly. I am so deep in my thoughts I forgot hyung is with me.

“Are you thinking about how politicians won unexpectedly, huh? You’re so lost,” he commented and sat beside me.

Grandma decided to sleep and now hyung and I are watching the gloomy sky that’s pouring rain through this glass wall of his studio. “I didn’t have the chance to cast my vote so I’m not really sure,” I chuckled.

Hyung chuckles with me as well and he ask, “What did grandma told you about me? She bad-mouthed me for sure.”

“Of course not,” I laughs. “I can say that your grandma loves you a lot and so you do to her,” I smiles briefly. “And she also said that you dated before… but it wasn’t Taehyun.”

Ah,” he nods and chuckled.

“So who’s Choi Soobin?”

Beomgyu hyung suddenly look at me with surprise, “H-huh? A close friend of mine,” he answered.

“It doesn’t look like it,” I commented. “You dated him that’s what grandma said but he couldn’t remember my face? Heol,” I reacted and almost scoff at him.

“You’re right… She was able to remember Soobin hyung but not him…” he whispered and sighs. “I also thought Soobin hyung will completely forget about what happened but some parts were just erased,” he added.

Now, I’m totally frowning. “What? What are you talking about?”

He smiles at me, “Kang Taehyun was an angel.”

“Eh?”

He laughs and shifted his eyes once again through the window. “Maybe that’s why no one really knew about him.”

“What trash are you talking right now, hyung?”

I know things are really weird right now and I really thought that maybe I’m in a supernatural fantasy novel but I am not! We are not! Of course, angels exist but his past-lover is an angel himself!? What in the K-Drama is this?

I sighs and leans, “I’ll have a proposal, hyung,” I started and he glanced at me. “Now that we’re friends, next is I want to help you move on from that guy…”

He halted for a second before looking at mean, “Taehyun,” he called me. “You look exactly like him, you sound like him, and you even have the same name… So tell me how are you going to do that?”

Right… So foolish.

“Then just think of me as him,” I suggested. “Treat me as how you treated him before…”

“No,” he rejected and looks away. “You’re different— you two are really different from each other and I can’t do that and you shouldn’t do that to yourself as well, Taehyun,” he stated.

I sighs and slowly nods to affirm. “You’re right. Then what are we going to do? I really want to help you though?” I stated. “Hyung,” I called him and placed my hand on his arm. “Let’s be friends— real friends and see me as this Taehyun and not that Taehyun. Hyung, you can open up things to me and we can talk things out. I don’t have any bad intentions, I just want to help you.”

He smiles and I felt him ruffling my hair that made me confused. “Okay kiddo—”

“I’m not a kid!” I groan.

“Okay, okay, sorry,” he laughs. “Thank you…” he expressed.

“Thank you as well for trusting me… but I really hope you don’t see me as a kid!” I sulked and he laughs at me.

“Wait, I’ll go get something,” he said and stands up then went to his room.

I take a stand when I noticed some photo albums on the shelf and I started browsing it. I smiles while looking at Beomgyu hyung’s silly child pictures.

“What are you laughing at? I surely look cute though?” I heard his voice as he walks towards me with his acoustic guitar.

“You look notorious, hyung,” I bluff and he laughs at me. “Why hold a gun?” I added. I was about to put back the photo album when something dropped. Beomgyu hyung is busy tuning his guitar so I just picked it up.

It’s an old photo of him, I guesses this took when he was a senior high student judging by how young he looks like. He’s smiling from ear to ear and he’s at the side, it seems like the right side is so spacious and there are two bicycles as well.

Wait a minute…

Dr. Kai said that hyung shown him a picture and said they took it together but he wasn’t in there and also Beomgyu hyung said it’s as if he was the only one who knew he existed.

“Taehyun, come here,” I heard him call my name.

I secretly took the photo and hid it in my pocket before I went in front of him. He started strumming his guitar and he’s just humming. I am smiling while looking at him focusing at his passion.

And that’s when random flashes of memories appeared across my mind. Who is this? At the rooftop, someone’s playing a guitar. I close my eyes as I try to focus more. Judging from where I am standing based on my memory, I’m at the ground while I’m looking above, at the rooftop. Someone’s playing a guitar in there. Who is this? I can’t clearly hear the voice.

“Taehyun?”

I gently open my eyes and there I meet Beomgyu hyung’s. “Who taught you about guitar?” I segued.

“Harabeoji,” he answered and I saw him smile.

“How about your dad?”

“I never meet him,” he answered once more and I nods.

“I’m afraid, I needed to go now,” I said and take a stand. “Mr. Lim is already waiting outside. The rain went lighter as well,” I stated.

“Sure,” he said and placed his guitar on the center table. “Do you want me to see you off the building?” he asks.

I shake my head, “No it’s fine. You needed to rest as well,” I replied.

“Take care then, Taehyun. Call me if we’ll go back,” he said.

I nod, “Copy hyung. Thank you for letting me in here as well, see you in two days,” I bid my good bye and he see me off up until the elevator where I wave my hands while smiling from ear to ear until it closes.

My face went blank and serious then I look at the photo I sneaked it earlier. Where did he take this? Is it really possible? No way. There’s no way this is possible.

I’m already at our way home when I asked Mr. Lim, “Mr. Lim, how many years have you been our family driver?”

“More or less 15 years, Young Kang,” he answered.

“Then you were there since I was a kid,” I stated and he nods. “How’s my dad? How dad treats me when I was a kid?”

I saw Mr. Lim smiles, “Mr. Kang really adores you since you were a kid. Everytime he went home from his business trip, he has always new toys for you. Your mom really takes care of you as well and treats you like a prince,” he chuckles as if he shares the same memory.

Then why can’t I remember any single of this good thing?

I frown and almost rolled my eyes. I’m getting annoyed. There are evidences that they are really my family, I already looked for it at our attic the moment I had spare time after I woke up so I can recall things.

“Taehyun,” Mr. Lim calls me and I let my frowning fade away. “You have a perfect happy family,” he stated.

“Thank you, Mr. Lim,” I smiled at him and let out soft chuckles. “Then do you also know if we have a rest house at the province?”

“Oh there one in Daegu but because of your accident, the family hasn’t gone back in there,” he answered.

“Then before my accident, we always went there during summer?” I asked again, hoping for a positive and matching answer.

“No? It was every winter— for Christmas holidays.”

What the heck is happening?

We arrived at the house and mom wasn’t there yet. I stayed at the living so she’ll see me the moment she arrived. My thoughts are still all over the place.

This isn’t just about me but also about my family, my whole identity… and Beomgyu hyung.

Why does it feel like there’s a significant connection between us that I didn’t know?

“Taehyun! My son!” I heard mom’s voice so I stared at her. Her reaction suddenly shifted when she saw me. As if she went anxious, fear, and confused. “T-Taehyun… Taehyun?”

That’s when I realized that I’m glaring and frowning at her because I’m in too deep of thinking. I quickly relaxed my brow. Smiles, soften my eyes, and then hug her.

“Mom! I’m home!”
