Max snorted in amusement as she looked over at Vaughan's flustered expression and continuously reddening face.
Jaden followed her eyes, turning around partially to look at a guy sitting at another table near the window with someone else sitting across from him.
"Who's that?" He asked turning back to the mysterious female.
"Friend. He's the one that likes coffee and dragged me here." She explained, looking at the weirdly white blonde guy for a few seconds longer before refocusing in on him.
"He isn't like your..." Jaden said, letting the question hang there in a way that anyone could understand what he was referring to. That would suck, and be super awkward if his soulmate was still in a relationship. Most people broke off their relationships when their timer came close to the final countdown unless they were in a serious relationship and were willing to give up their soulmate for someone else.
"No. No, he's just a friend. He swings more towards guys anyway so he's not someone to worry about." She said glancing over at Vaughn.
"Are those contacts?" The stranger asked Vaughn, the bright boiler orbs being on of the first things he noticed about the young... teenman? He's sort of stuck at sixteen though only a few years younger then Rodgers.
"N-no. They're not." The blonde answered shyly, glancing down at the table.
"That's sick. I'd kill for purple eyes. Name's Percy by the way." The stranger smiled while looking into Vaughn's face with his warm chocolate colored orbs.
"I'm Vaughn. Nice to meet you."
Max resisted the urge to role her eyes at the way her friend was goggling at the man sitting across from him.
"So what have you been up to? Can I have your number yet or you still going to is the 'I don't have a phone' excuse." Jaden asked after taking a sip from his coffee. Oh did Max live the smell of coffee, she just wished it tasted like what it smelt. She wouldn't mind her apparent smelling like morning heaven without having to drink the butter he'll at it's source.
"Funny thing is, I really don't have a phone. It's part of my contract while working my agency." Well technically S.H.I.E.L.D. Have her a phone and she had a burner that people with jobs contacted her with when she was bored but she didn't want him to have to explain why he was affiliated with that number should the subject ever have to be brought up in Jaden's life.
"Really? And what agency do you work for?" He asked skeptically.
"That's classified." She supplied helpfully before taking a sip from her drink. The teen before her slumped in his pouter, clearly taking the fact as a rejection. He didn't believe her. She probably wouldn't believe herself either.
Max sighed. "I'm an assassin, I can't give you that information for both of our benefits."
Jaden glared at her. "Jeez, if you don't want anything to do with me, you could at least just tell me the truth rather then give me a load of shit like that." Max was mysterious but he wasn't going to be stupid enough to believe something like that.
Max looked up at him in alarm as his feet fell from her lap and his glasses her pushed up again. His posture became rigid in an attempt to display his withdrawal. She wasn't joking, she wasn't lying, and she didn't know how to fix it. "Jaden I'm not lying to you. I'm telling you the truth of what I do. It's the only profession I have other then taking your order at the Five guys over on Griggs. And why is it so hard to believe when you're the one who's been attacked by a Mercenary?"
"I was at the wrong place at the wrong time and made a bad decision because I thought I could get some money,"
"You were at that facility about twelve months ago weren't you. When it was infiltrated." Jaden stared at her looking mildly guilty. "Where Deadpool came in from the north entrance, you were probably trying to get out that way weren't you?"
The story wasn't exactly like how it went out, only Jaden's actions for escape being off in the assumption.
"I was the one on the inside that took out the third floor before I tripped an alarm. Killed the man in charge before anyone could comprehend what was going down. Completed the job before Wade could."
"Wade? Wait, that's was you? But I saw you. My stopwatch-" Jaden said shaking his head. This wasn't possible.
"I didn't have one on at the time. I didn't until four months later." She explained calmly, she had reached out to him, awkward in the way that she wasn't used to contact but was making an effort to try.
"How is that possible? Everyone has one, is destined one. Every person." He said clearly trying to connect the dots and disprove her words.
This was the part Max wanted to wait for later. Much, much later when they could have had something of a relationship. "I'm not human." She confessed. She didn't blame him for the look he gave her in return.
