"I thought there were no more of our kind! Why would you lie about this? This is something that as bothered you since before I was born. You hate the idea of the humans consuming the world so what good would it be to hide another of our kind. Are there more? Where did he come from?" NightFall growls, the large dragon pacing angrily in the darkness of the territory between universes, where all shadows travel to, where Death lurked unwillingly.
"I wasn't aware he even existed. I wouldn't hide something like that." Darkfang snaps right back at the younger, standing several feet taller than her offspring. "I don't believe he's even a true blood. He's been Mixed with the blood of the humans, he can't reform his image to be one of us."
"He knows the language of the DarkStars. How is he not one of us?"
"The language can be taught. Perhaps his mother had once been one of your friends siblings."
"You were the one that said they were all dead by the time you found him almost starved to death." Max snaps in a challenging huff of super heated air followed by a low grumble.
The younger stares angrily up at the older who stands just as firmly and stubborn.
"I know, I know. But I've never been perfect I could have made a mistake. I've never seen the child before. I don't know what he is or why." Darkfang responds in the manner of a young adult not ready for the responsibilities the universe had shoved on her before she could even understand most of anything about life. After so many years of confinement, standing alone, forced to bear a hatchling and then watching as she was continuously resented also by her only living blood line all she wanted as to go home. She wishes she could start over. She wouldn't have to always be the one to blame for missing things and making mistakes, she wanted a life where she wasn't always the one blamed for every God damned thing.
"But then what do I do with him! Do I try and be sure that he lives or should I be wary? You're the one that always tells me what to do! You always know the answer and have desired to tell me ever distinct detail on how to live my life so why won't you you do that now?" Max lashes angrily, stopping forward with a loud his as she puts on a challenging display.
"Because I don't know anymore! I don't know everything, I can't read minds, I won't do anything about it anymore and I'm done trying." The larger dragon growls back, looking down at her child in a mix of rage and hurt. A hurt she would never reveal. She had tried so hard being good for her Hatchling, she tried to protect her, she planned on waiting until it was a right time to bring her egg to the earth to hatch, she had never meant for her to be stolen or be an endering, to live in the world she does. She had tried her best to search for another like her to make sure she wasn't alone only for that effort to be lost when he died. The best she could do was keep his presence near until he finally couldn't remain stationary anymore and had left, taking his chance at life again like Darkfang promised he could if he stayed with NightFall. "I don't care anymore." She hisses, turning away from her daughter. She was lying but she didn't care. It would all be easier to let go. She like Nightfall had stopped again at a verity in point, making them no different from one another besides literal age. Mentally a capably they are equal. "Go play with your little human friends and live the life you want because I'm not going to try to protect you anymore. Choose to kill or save the youngling, I don't care. All I know is that your possible futures are going to be full of suffering and I've done everything I can to try and prevent that, but there is nothing I can do anymore for you. Live your own life." She says before fully turning away.
Max stares at her mother in shock. She didn't often if ever speak with her due to her own resent for her but she had never expected to be abandoned. Immediate guilt consumed the dragon as she stared after flinging scales before shoving the stupid emotion away and growled after the parent. This didn't mater. None of it, Darkfang had never been there anyway.
She turns away leaving behind the cold space to awaken in the world of the living. There was someone hovering over her, someone she didn't recognize. Needless to say that person wasn't awake two seconds later. The furious shifter sitting up angrily, shaking her stinging hand while glancing at the unknown person beside her in annoyance.
She wouldn't feel sorry for herself for this loss. It wasn't much of one.
