29. Cat From Hell

Do these people honestly think flash bombs are really going to affect two super soldiers?

Like, honestly? They're rather daft.

I hop down from the air conditioner I'm sitting on and watch apprehensively as I see Barnes kick one of the flash bombs towards Steve before he throws his shield over it to protect them both. I watch as another is thrown through the window, but Bucky picks up the mattress on the floor and uses it as a shield before it explodes. Then through the com, I hear a crash after seeing Bucky flip something towards the front door just as two of the men scaling down the building come crashing through the windows. Now I'm really tempted to get in on the action. However, now I can also see through the windows, which means I can see the action since those two soldiers broke through the newspaper covered glass. Although, I'm not so sure I'm needed anymore because as soon as the first man lands on his feet, Bucky clocks him in the face. This causes the second man to aim his weapon at the ex-HYDRA supersoldier. Before he can fire, however, Steve literally pulls the rug out from under his feet, causing his weapon to discharge. The bullets miss Bucky and hit the ceiling and walls instead. Since the threat is neutralized, Barnes grabs the first man and throws him against the far wall, knocking him unconscious. At the same time, a third man bursts in, but this time through the door that leads to an unused balcony. Steve's there, so he grabs the end of the firearm and forces it upwards, allowing Barnes to kick the soldier in the abdomen, causing him to slam into the broken door harshly before falling to the ground limply. Barnes then tries to escape through the door, but Steve grabs his arm quickly.

"Buck, stop!" Barnes swivels under Steve's arm as he turns so they're facing each other. "You're gonna kill someone." Cap warns, inferring the men he's harshly taken out so far. Bucky then grabs Steve by the front of his costume before slamming him down onto the floor. As he does this, Barnes himself kneels as he throws his fist down next to Steve's head. This causes me to panic because from where I'm standing, I can't tell if he's clobbered Steve in the face or not.

"I'm not gonna kill anyone." Bucky says sharply and this causes my panic to subside just a little bit as I figure he wouldn't have said anything if he actually took out Steve. That, and it'd be quite contradictory if he had. I watch as he then yanks something out of the floorboards he just smashed his metal hand through, and toss it out the door, and over the balcony. With a thud, it lands on the concrete a few yards in front of me.

A....backpack? That was not what I was expecting.

I hesitantly approach the bag before nudging it with my foot. My inspection of the bag shifts suddenly. "Steve!" I shout as I notice another man hops through the window the first man had smashed through. He starts to fire immediately after and Bucky is forced to throw up his metal arm to protect himself. But Steve, ever the hero, quickly gets to his feet and protects the two of them with his trusty shield. But, another man drops down onto the balcony and moves towards the second window. "On your right!" I shout as the soldier positions himself to shoot Steve and Bucky where they aren't shielded. Thanks to my warning, Cap is able to move just enough to protect himself and James from both gunmen. Unexpectedly though, Barnes shoves Cap towards the second man, causing him to fly through the window as his shield smacks into the soldier. The two of them fall to the balcony floor. "I'm not sure that best friends shove other best friends towards the police shooting at the both of them..." I ponder out loud, lifting a brow towards the fight as I cross my arms.

"Not helping, Iris." I hear Steve grunt.

"Maybe I would be more helpful if you stopped acting like I was a five-year-old being placed in a war." I snap back, glaring at the building.

"She's got a point, Cap." I hear Sam back me up.

"Thank you, Sam." I say appreciatively. Meanwhile, I watch as Bucky frickin walks towards the man who was shooting at him and Steve, holding up his metal hand as his only protection. "Is he serious?" I grumble to myself. "I'm surprised he hasn't gotten shot yet." I mumble under my breath. I jump as I see Barnes grab the man by the back of his head and slam him face first into a wooden piece of furniture. "Good grief." I say, my eyes wide. Oh, but to make things worse, one of the men that had been taken down at the beginning of the fight is getting up just as Bucky slams the man face first into the furniture. James grabs a dang cinder block he had lying around and smashes it into the recovering soldier's face, which sends him smashing through a door to the bathroom. "I thought he wasn't going to kill anybody??" I ask worriedly.

"Focus Iris!" Cap says after he's disarmed the man he crashed through the window with. And, at the same moment, the men who have been trying to gain access to the apartment through the front door have taken out a shotgun and are shooting the door hinges. Before they can kick the door in, Bucky throws his metal fist through the door, nailing someone in the face. I decide to look away at this point. I really cannot see how Barnes expects to get through this without killing anybody. I kneel by the backpack after carefully observing it for any heat signatures. A quiet shuffle behind me causes my head to whip around, my attention shifting away from inspecting Barnes' bag. I can't pick up any heat signatures, but I know for sure I heard something. I peer around across the rooftop, eyes narrowed.

"Hello?" I quietly call. No answer. I quickly pick up James' bag before standing at my full height. "I swear on the holy name of waffles if someone is trying to jump scare me, I will fling you into the sun." I threaten, my eyes continuing to sweep across the area but I neither hear nor see any movement. Maybe it was just my imagination.

Crash!

I turn around and look back to the building to see a door has been kicked out many stories down from where Bucky had been a moment ago. And, well, he's not up there anymore. My eyes widen considerably when I see him come running through a hallway, before jumping over the balcony wall and begin to free fall. "He did not just jump out of a building. He did not." I whisper to myself. I narrow my eyes and consciously use a small burst of energy to give him just a little more lift to make sure he makes it across to the rooftop. As he gets closer to the edge of the rooftop, I use a small bit of energy to slow down his descent while swiftly backing up. He lands heavily on his side with a groan, before rolling across the rooftop. That's when I remember I'm holding his bag. Whoops. "Oh shi-!"

Oh lord, he's coming right at me. How lovely.

I'm startled by the determination being expressed in the super soldier's eyes. He's undeterred as he continues to charge forward while I hug his bag close to my chest. But suddenly my eyes shift away from Barnes as a darkly clothed figure emerges from behind one of the larger AC units, jumps on top of it, and then launches himself towards Barnes. "Dude! Behind-" I begin to say, my feet still carrying me backward. My warning comes just in time. Bucky turns while running before the new player in the field grabs him by the back of his clothes and flips him over, while he himself somewhat flies over Bucky's head. Barnes rolls and stumbles forward before crashing into me. Now the two of us are on the ground while the masked lunatic is standing in front of us threateningly. He's wearing a black suit with silver details and his mask has cat ears on it. He lifts his hands and extremely sharp claws emerge from the gloves he's wearing.

Oh no, it's a cat from hell.
