Try Living the Theory

Once again advice was given

You've got to change this life you're livin'

Too much stress, you need a rest

We're the pros and we know best

So I arranged one night of respite care

Assured myself she was happy there

Then home to rest my weary head

For a good night's sleep in my own bed

Settled in on my own side

Couldn't lie on hers even though I tried

Sleep wouldn't come, I lay awake

Losing the advantage of this break

Was she alright, was she scared,

Was she worrying nobody cared?

I clutched her pillow in my fist

Just one night and already missed

No sleep at all, just a heart of pain

Wishing her back home again

Pros suck their teeth and shake their head

Wasted chance is what they said

They very well may know their skills

The text book phrase, the drops and pills

Name the disease and fix the symptoms

Ignoring uniqueness in its victims

No one knows her better than I

And still no matter what I try

I cannot fathom this eroding mind

There's no solution I can find

Morning comes and not too late

I skip my breakfast, just can't wait

I drive too fast, anticipation

Then seeing her evokes elation

A passing hint I may have been missed

Nothing telling when we kissed

And driving home I knew, you see

It was not about her . . .

. . . it was all about me.
