Another assault on my love's defences

It doesn't matter most all are lost

Without a warning its raid commences

And soon our sanity will be the cost

She is aware of what it makes her do

Yet not aware enough to stop it

Both day and night it's never through

This ugly disease's evil parrot

No message from the brain is sent

to tell her she is tired

The enemy has broken through

her brain has been hot-wired

Another sleepless night for me as well

chanting echoes down the hall

My nerves are twanging and I want to yell

But I also know it wouldn't help at all

It's limiting the places we can go

at least at times we used to choose

And worst of all, she doesn't know

how much of social life we lose

There are pills they say, the noise to tame

but the trade off is more awareness lost

it's a cruel ante for this game

that can't be won at any cost

I won't surrender any more

I'll continue just to love what's left

and even if the outcome's poor

I won't contribute to the theft

If endless noise is my cost to bear

then it's a price I'll gladly pay

for someone who has been so rare

in the life with whom I share
