Ah, once upon a wondrous time

so very long ago

a journey's fantasy began

Through scented fields from nature's pallet

ablaze in sunshine's glow

hand in loving hand we ran

Spun sugar clouds

'neath a forget-me-not blue sky

to sail the world with nothing wrong

Then providence miscarries

and the fantasies all die

wailing misery's song

With eyes unfocused

I sit and stare

across a growing, terrifying gap

Where can I turn

who even cares

compassion turns into an empty trap

Now reclaimed from one

promise once bestowed on two

a payment more than harsh

No extension on account

a ledger shows imbursement due

all preceding was a farce

Left to live alone

inside my head

communicating my despair

Now just the warden of a soul

an empty vessel to be led

until there's nothing there
