It might have been a trick of light

a flicker waiting to ignite

Something I'd not seen for a while

Embers of that familiar smile

It wasn't there for very long

Like a chord from a forgotten song

Before it left without a trace

Leaving just an empty face

But in that moment it appeared

I know it was my name I heard

And I felt my heart beat in my chest

That organ that has been so stressed

And with that song from long ago

I closed my eyes and watched the show

Of azure skies and sparkling seas

Cotton clouds ballet in a gentle breeze

Verdant forests of emerald trees

A rainbow of flowers, and honey bees

Birds that sing and fly with grace

All this I beheld in her smiling face

And as the image swirled away

I smiled myself for this special day

Hoping for another just the same

When I would hear her say my name.
