Hello, Is Anybody Up There?

All celebratory days now pass unnoticed

Their meanings lost forever

The pleased smile still remains

But the mind is now unfocused

Birthdays, anniversaries hold no sway

Christmas is just another dinner out

The same as this Mother's day

Candy is all that Easter means

And New Year's Eve just noisy teens

There's recognition in the moment

But a moment is all it ever lasts

The pleasure of all those special days

Are now my memories of the past

No one can know the loss of something

You can still touch, see and feel

The mind numbing existence

Of a life so surreal

Even living it I don't understand

Each day the wrinkle's new

With no idea what to do

If it was easy I could have planned

And when it's necessary to get assistance

There's an awareness that sparks resistance

And even the institutions say, poor dears

You're on the list but it could take years
