-family of three-
Daryl and Beth had gotten drunk on moonshine, and things had turned from happy to aggressive.
"Daryl, you know this isn't your fault; you couldn't have known the Governor would have come; we didn't know our home would be torn down! Or the fact you didn't escape with Theo!" Beth yelled, throwing her arms up in frustration.
"They are all dead, Beth! They are all gone, and I could have stopped it somehow; I should have done more!" Daryl almost cried; he panted from screaming; he missed Theo; she was the only thing on his mind.
"You're going to look damn stupid when you find her again", Beth admitted making Daryl calm. "Because you will, I will find Maggie, you will find Theo, and we will all find each other again", Beth spoke calmly, making Daryl completely calm as Beth hugged him.
"We better get moving..." Daryl spoke, embarrassed, as he continued to walk toward Terminus.
"Are you going to ask her when we find her?" Beth asked, walking closely beside the Redneck.
"Ask her what?" Daryl's eyes scanned the surroundings; it was obvious what was to be asked.
"That you want to marry her?"
"If I find her Beth, she won't ever leave my sight again, and I won't question it", Daryl admitted as he played with the bracelet on his wrist.
"She has to be heading towards Terminus, right?" Beth wondered, looking at another sign.
"Yeah, I think" Daryl nodded as they followed the tracks.
"How did you know she was the one, Daryl? It seems it's harder to find love than what they put in the novels," Beth sighed, looking up at Daryl as he sighed.
He chewed his lip.
Was there any harm in opening up to Beth?
"I just knew." He began as she looked at him, confused. "I've had a couple of girls in my life, nothing serious, just the random hook-up or a drunken party kiss. But those girls were just in it for the sex or the story of telling their friends. But Theo...from the minute I saw her, I knew she wasn't like any other woman I had met before," Daryl explained as the two of them continued to walk.
"I thought the same. The fact she came in unconscious at my daddy's farm, woke up, and then gave her blood to her brother. She is special."
"Yeah. She is. And she is so beautiful..." Daryl got lost with himself for a minute before clearing his throat.
"You don't need to be embarrassed, Daryl. You are allowed to swoon over your partner to others. She is your person" Beth smiled, making Daryl calm slightly.
"It hurts. How much I miss her," He admitted. "I love her so much. It hurts; loving her is so painful because of how much I would do for her." Daryl smiled.
"I wish I had my person" Beth smiled sadly at the floor.
"You will one day. I didn't find mine until I was 29." Daryl smiled, and Beth smiled back.
-Meanwhile-
Theo and Merle had barley spoken since they planned to head towards Terminous, Merle continued to walk behind her, not knowing what to say to her.
Although she was not alone, her heart skipped a beat when she felt she was being watched and not by Merle.
She stopped after hearing a branch snap, but she knew it wasn't a walker because it had stopped.
Merle had heard it too.
She placed her bag down and grabbed her gun. Seeing her on edge, Saint stood his ground, ready to attack.
"Who's out there?" she asked, looking around carefully.
Another branch snapped from behind her, making her turn fast, pointing her gun directly in that direction.
"Please, we need help", A male voice begged.
"Hey!" Merle yelled as he pointed his own gun at the man.
"Come out, your hands up and slow", She ordered, never lowering the gun, not even slightly.
A man walked out from the trees, followed by a woman and finally a young girl, their hands in the air.
"Please, we beg," The woman asked; she was covered in dirt, a mess.
"Put your weapons on the floor. Now," Theo demanded, Saint growling beside her.
The family nodded and placed their weapons on the floor.
"We have been running from these two men; they want to kill us", The man began, trying to take a step forward.
"Back", Theo reminded. "Why are they looking for you?" Theo asked, her guard going up even more as Merle searched all of them.
"They think we stole from them, but they are mistaken; we had been travelling to a prison, and we heard they were taking people in. When we got there, it was destroyed. We went in to look and came across these two men who were scavenging, but nothing was left, and they thought we had the stuff that was left. They chased us out, and they killed my brother" The man fought off the tears in his eyes as he spoke of his late brother.
"The prison?" Theo asked in shock. "There were still people at the prison?" She asked confused looking at Merle who backed up next to Theo knowing they were all unarmed.
"Yeah," The woman answered.
"What did they look like?" She asked, her gun raised but her finger no longer on the trigger
No one answered; they just looked between them
"What did they look like!" Merle yelled.
"One man was bold; he had a large beard; the other was ginger and small" " the woman answered.
"Fuck", Theo sighed, not recognising those features in anyone she remembered at the prison.
"You need our help; how?" Theo asked, unsure whether or not to trust them or not.
"We are trying to get to Terminus; please, you have to help us," The man asked.
"Lucky for you, that's where we are going" Theo put her gun away.
"Theo. I dont think we should..." Merle questioned.
"They have a kid with them, they try anything I'll take them out" Theo warned.
"Thank you, I'm Matt, this is my wife Julie, my daughter Debbie" The man introduced
"Theo, that's Saint, this is Merle" Theo looked at them
"You can keep your guns, but for now, I'm taking your knives", She demanded, picking up their weapons and only handing their knives back.
"Why?" Julie asked
"That way, I'll hear the gun hammer before I hear the knife, right?" Theo asked. "As well as that, you shoot me, you bring in walkers, and there are two of us, so you'd probably shooting towards your own deaths", She pointed out.
"You're smart; are you two alone?" Debbie asked, looking up at Theo.
"We were at that prison; people came and killed some of our family, making the rest of us have to split", Theo explained as she made the family walk in front of her.
"How many in your family?" Matt asked, looking back for a second.
"Enough", Theo nodded. "Look, we walk until sundown, then we rest up for the night; I'll take the night shift", Theo explained. The family nodded.
Night came by as Theo and the parents of the new family spoke by the fire, Debbie being asleep and guarded by Saint.
"How long have you been out on the road?" Theo asked the two parents about cooking the squirrel she had caught on fire.
Merle sitting close to Theo, Saint between the two of them asleep.
"Not long, about a week", Julie answered, looking at her husband.
"Why?" Theo wondered, digging into the food.
"The camp we were at just got overrun," Julie sighed, rubbing her head.
"I'm sorry, that's happened a lot to me; I know how you feel", Theo tried to smile.
"You?" Matt asked
"Since this shit started, I've been on the road longer than I've been in a place", She explained
"Have you too always been together?" Julie asked as the two of them looked towards one another.
"No exactly..." Theo began
"We didn't start off on the right foot, but Theo here is my brothers other half so she is family" Merle opened up making Theo look over to him with a smile.
"We started in Atlanta, and now I'm here." She smiled sadly as she prodded the fire.
"Family?" Matt asked, confused on there history.
"We both have blood relatives alive still, but we have a larger group that's our family too now" Theo explained.
"Must be nice", Julie smiled. "You say your dating his brother..."
"Yeah, well, I hope he is still alive." Theo smiled back sadly before looking at Merle reflecting the same expression. "Shit hit the fan; I just want to find him and the rest of my family."
It fell silent once again.
"Can I ask something?" Matt began.
"As long as it's nothing to do with that prison", Merle began, snapping at the constant need to know about it.
"That scar, did you get that before all of this?" Matt asked, pointing at his face.
"You know, I completely forgot I had it." Theo smiled, running her fingers along the scar. "But no, the man who destroyed that prison and killed one of my friends gave it to me" She nodded.
Merle looked at the floor guiltily, he blamed himself a lot for everything that happened betweem them and the governor.
"Why?" Julie asked in shock
Theo paused
"Because he could" She shrugged, "People do what they want now; it's hard to trust anyone."
The two looked at her in worry.
"You know, you can get some rest; it looks like you two haven't slept in days; we will take watch", Julie smiled
Theo was hesitant and so was Merle.
"It's fine..." Merle shook his head. "I got this one" Merle stood.
"I'll sleep for 30 minutes, then I'll take watch", Theo answered making Merle nod.
She rested her head on the jacket that Daryl gave her; it still smelled like him, the wooden scent he carried.
It helped her sleep; she felt like he held onto her while she rested.
"Theo!" Debbie yelled, waking up the sleeping girl, startled. She grabbed her knife defensively.
"What?" She shot up, realising it was light out.
"Mum and Dad are gone!" Debbie cried, causing Theo to stand up quickly and look around. She grabbed her bag and looked inside.
"Merle!" She yelled in worry
"Fuck!" Theo yelled, making the girl jump; her blood boiled, and she was so angry.
"They left, and they took our shit!" Theo yelled as she paced angrily.
"Why would they do that?" Debbie asked, crying into her hands.
Theo looked around for some answer.
"Shit" Theo had no idea why they would leave their child and why Merle would leave with them.
"Come on, we can't wait around," Theo instructed as they packed the remaining things.
"They could have gotten far anyway"; Theo began walking, Debbie following.
They only walked for 10 minutes when a scream echoed through the forest.
"That was my mum!" Debbie ran.
"You shit, come back!" Theo yelled after the girl chasing her.
However, her view was cut off by a large branch swinging at her and then darkness.
