-caught in the act-
The group spent the next few months on the road, running from place to place for shelter. Supplies were limited, and there was constant tension among the group.
Theo stayed close to Daryl and her mother's side, refusing to talk to anyone but them. The exception was Glenn and Maggie, who were on a good day.
She didn't know how to take the death of Shane.
It pondered in her mind constantly.
She wasn't exactly sad.
Nor happy.
She felt as though she should have been the one to do it.
Yet she was glad she didn't.
It was hard for Theo to explain, so she kept that feeling to herself.
Theo and her father had barely spoken, neither she nor Carl. He didn't understand what had happened, and being so young, no one knew how to explain it, so Carl blamed his father and sister for Shane's death.
Daryl and Theo had become more of a couple, still not labelling as boyfriend and girlfriend.
But they kept to themselves, keeping their relationship hidden from the others, always denying to everyone who asked; they didn't want to be put on the spot, and they didn't want to Rick as he has made his opinion clear that he does not want them together. However, that is none of his business.
They protected and slept near one another, only to sneak off to have alone time when everyone else was asleep.
They were on the side of the road, looking for where to head next, Beth and Carl on lookouts.
"Do you think this will be it?" Theo asked Daryl as they began walking through the woods for food.
"What you mean?" he asked, gripping the strap on his bow tighter.
"As in, do you think our group is going to be on the run from now on, never finding a place to stay?" she asked, her head unable to look up from the ground because she was so tired.
"Nah, we'll find something soon," he nodded. Over the last few months, they had stuck to themselves, parting more from the group but still protecting others. They weren't going to leave the others, but everything felt different.
"Heads up", Theo flicked her head, seeing a walker in the distance
"After you" Daryl lowered his crossbow, giving her a wink.
"You're too kind," She smiled, grabbing her bat tighter and running to the walker, smashing its head under the force of her swing between a tree and her bat.
She smiled as she turned to look at Daryl but stopped before reaching him, her sight catching the lottery.
"Theo?" Daryl asked, running beside her, but he went silent when he realised what she had seen.
They both smirked at one another before running back to the others.
"You okay?" Lori panicked as she saw them approach.
She was due any day, and this running around was getting more challenging.
"We think we found something," Daryl started awkwardly, making Rick follow him.
They had constantly argued while on the road. Daryl tried to seek every chance he got to eat, hunting for the group—anything from owls to bugs.
But Rick had something in his head turned off.
Unless it was something he thought was edible, he discarded it.
Secretly, Theo and Daryl helped feed the others, but Rick was always too angry to see the negative effect he had on the group.
"You alright?" Theo asked her mother, helping her settle.
"Have you reached out to that boy yet?" her mother asked, looking at Carl, who was out of breath and constantly uncomfortable.
"He won't even look at me," Theo frowned, playing with her knife.
"Your dad?" Lori continued, readjusting again
"I don't know," she said, looking out in the direction the boys went.
"Ugh, this is so uncomfortable", Lori sighed as she readjusted again.
"Not long" She smiled.
"You think you'll ever have a baby with Daryl?" Lori blurted out.
Theo looked at her mother, startled slightly.
"I don't know mumma. This is all so new," Theo shrugged, sitting beside her.
Although Lori knew about Theo and Daryl at the farm, Theo confirmed it not long after they left.
She had told her mother about her and Daryl only after she swore it to secrecy, which her mother was excellent with.
The conversation went along the lines of...
Flashback
Daryl was alone on watch for most of the night.
They were allowing Theo to rest in the abandoned car they had come across.
The rest of the group slept in the empty house they had found; it was a one-night solution due to the lack of fencing around the home.
Daryl looked up at the moon; he estimated it to be around 4 am.
He yawned before looking back at the car. To no surprise, Theo was not asleep. Instead, she was sitting in the vehicle, looking in the other direction.
He sighed before getting up and walking to the car, opening the back door and sliding beside her.
"I thought I told you to get some rest" Daryl looked at her.
She turned to face him.
"I couldn't sleep", Theo sighed as he looked around.
"Quiet night...Doesn't need the both of us on watch." Daryl told her, moving some of her hair out of her face and looking at her sweetly.
"So, does that mean I can have you here with me?" She smirked as she leaned closer to him.
"Hmm," Daryl laughed as Theo swung her leg over Daryl's lap, straddling him in the small space in the back of the car.
Daryl's hands went directly to her hips, up her sides, under her shirt to hold her tightly against his body as she kissed him.
Theo's hands found their way to his hair as they smiled into the deep kiss.
They were lost in their world; everything was getting heated.
A loud knock on the window beside them sent them flying up in fear, causing Theo to smack her head on the car's roof.
"Theodora!" Her mother whispered/yelled.
"Are you okay?" Daryl checked over Theo straight away, and Theo nodded and got out of the car.
"Mum, do not freak out, okay?" Theo calmed her mother.
"I knew it", Lori laughed, smiling at her daughter.
"What? You're not mad?" Theo looked back at Daryl.
"Mad? I'm mad that you are supposed to be on watch. But about this, no, I have known for ages" Lori smiled as Theo looked back at Daryl, who shrugged.
He knew that Lori had mentioned something at the farm, but it mentioned the word love, and he wasn't ready to admit that yet.
"You can't tell anyone", Theo begged as Lori nodded.
"I'm just happy that you are happy", Lori smiled, hugging her daughter.
"Now, on watch", Lori pointed at Daryl, who nodded.
"Yes, Ma'am" Daryl walked away quickly.
"Thank you, Mom" She hugged her mother tightly.

Theo asked her mother to keep it to herself. They wanted no one to know because Theo and Daryl were sick of everyone knowing everything.
Because this was their first relationship, they tried to figure things out for themselves with no one else's input.
Lori understood entirely and was happy for both of them.
"You would be an amazing mother", Lori smiled, stoking her daughter's hair.
"You think?" Theo looked at her hands, looking back up to meet her mother's eyes.
She nodded.
"Imagine the stubborn child that you two would have. Jesus," Lori laughed, causing Theo to laugh along with her.
"What did you find?" Glenn asked as Rick and Daryl came back.
Theo stood up, helping her mother out of the car.
"It's a prison, with a few walkers in the field, inside and out, but we can clear it." Rick nodded, looking around.
Everyone agreed and got ready.
They headed in their vehicles and drove to the prison.
They worked out the action plan once they arrived at a safe distance.
"Theo and Daryl, take the lead, clear away at the start on the fence. The rest of us will follow close behind and keep the area clear until you are in. Once in Glenn, take that wire and do the fence up again. We get that plan done inside, and we will figure out the next," Rick explained, looking between everyone.
"You okay with that?" Glenn asked Theo, checking over the current fragile girl.
"Yeah, piece of cake, right?" She asked, looking at the task ahead, taking a deep breath, and looking at all the walkers she was about to face.
About four dozen walkers were outside the fence; inside was another story.
Theo grabbed her gun and checked her bullets. She had one round, and that was all. She had her bat ready while Daryl loaded his crossbow.
"Ready short stuff?" Daryl asked as they began walking over to the first group of walkers
"Sure thang", she put on an accent as she shuffled over to the first walker, smacking its head clean off.
Daryl shot a walker down before grabbing his knife and stabbing another in the head.
Theo had taken a couple of swings at the walkers, but they were crowding, so she took the chance.
"Cover me!" Theo yelled, making Daryl see what she was doing.
He would be lying if he said he didn't panic. But he trusted her, and she would call for help if needed.
She ran towards the fence and passed as many walkers as she could, taking out the odd couple with her knife or bat.
She stood on the fence, hitting every close walker, distracting them from the rest of the group. This gave the others an advantage, as they could take them out without seeing them.
Glenn made it over, throwing Theo the wire cutters.
She quickly cut a hole in the fence.
"Hurry!" She yelled, going through first, followed by the others, before Glenn tied it back together.
Everyone tried catching their breaths before they were on the move again. They headed up to the gate, which allowed them onto the main field of the prison.
"Okay, Daryl and Carol, take that guard tower, Glenn and Herschel this one, the rest of you try bringing them to you, Theo, you wanna come with me and shut off that fence?" Rick asked his daughter.
Everyone turned to look at her.
They weren't too sure how she would react.
"You trust me?" Rick asked after a long period of silence.
"Yeah, let's go", she nodded with a sigh, looking up at Daryl quickly, who nodded at her.
Carl opened the gate, and Theo and Rick ran straight out without a second thought. They hid by the bus that had turned over in the field as cover as the others began shaking the fences and yelling at the walkers to draw them away from the Grimes' inside.
The shooting was blaring as the people in the guard towers took out handfuls of walkers.
"Take the left; I'll go right," Rick told Theo. She nodded before running to the right of the bus, where she used her bat once again to take out more walkers.
She was about to turn when an arrow flew past her.
She stopped and realised she was inches from a walker.
She grabbed the arrow from its head before looking up at Daryl.
She quickly turned back and focused on the other walkers heading her way.
Theo used all her strength to plough through about ten walkers before reaching the gate with her dad. They secured the gate with a chain before running into the guard tower, where the rest of the group finished off the remaining walkers.
"This mean we are good?" Rick asked Theo, taking a deep breath and looking at his daughter, hoping for forgiveness
"Yeah, Dad, I will always have your back, but don't break my trust like that again, please," Theo forgave her father.
"I swear, I won't ever do that to you again" Rick nodded, bringing her into a hug.
"You do..." Theo said, looking out into the distance. "I will never forgive you", she admitted. And she meant it. She knew it was a mistake and her dad had paid for it, but she knew she wouldn't be as forgiving if it happened again.
Once the field was evident, everyone else moved it, blocking the entrance to prevent surprises at night.
"Hey!" Theo smiled at her brother, who just walked past her. She sighed, frowning towards Daryl.
"He'll come around", he began, lingering his hand on her arm for a few seconds.
"I don't even know what I have done", Theo admitted, who looked over to Carl.
"Have you tried talking to him since?" Daryl asked as he swung his crossbow over his shoulder and walked to the others.
"No..." she stated. "Thanks for earlier; by the way, here's your arrow" She smiled, handing his arrow back.
"Thanks, and I told you I wouldn't let anything hurt you" He took the arrow off her as they joined the others.
