Ch.4

Nope. She was wrong. The social interaction was, indeed, not over.

She had fallen asleep tensely, remembering what had happened yesterday. And yet, her afternoon nap was pleasant.

But she woke up to find that same old lazy boy sleeping outside on the ground.

Shy mode, activate.

You see, she is a very open and bold girl. She's energetic, funny, and loud.

But her social anxiety is so bad, that anytime she sees another person she acts like a completely opposite her.

She's shy, wary, quiet. She is aware of everything, and every little movement and sound sets her off. She feels like she has paranoia.

And this boy was becoming increasingly irritating.

Can he just leave her alone?

"I-uh... um... why are y-you here?" Damn this lazy bastard.

"It's quiet. Don't be loud. It's a drag."

She just walked silently behind him not taking her eyes off the boy for a second. She slowest climbed up into her tree house.

She doesn't like him here. She feels threatened, like somehow he's gonna get her captured.

Yet at the same time, it was interesting to observe him. She hadn't talked to a human in so long, but now one was here. And they didn't report her yet!

Shikimaru let out a lazy yawn that made her jump at the sound. "Why is it so quiet in here? Usual you at least hear one animal. Ya know, a bird and such."

It was pretty odd. Though Shikimaru welcomes silence, they were in a forest. And there were animals in forests. So why didn't he hear any? Normally, birds could be heard chirping left and right. The silence was a bit unsettling.

"Oh! Uh, m-my walls block out sound. T-they aren't v-very good at keeping it i-in as you saw..."

"Walls?"

"Oh! I made them. T-they aren't r-r-regular hedges..."

He let it go, and once again rested.

This might come out I no where, but as the days went on Shikimaru continued to return to that spot. He would relax, she would be a stuttering mess, and things were normal after awhile.

But as months passed, they started to make more small talk. Over time, she lost her stutter. She could hold a conversation, and even come near Shikimaru. It wasn't huge, but it was something. She figured out when Shikimaru showed up (aka, when school ended) and would wait for him.

And on breaks when he didn't have academy, they would just lay next to each other. Somewhere in the process, she picked up Shikimaru's pass time of staring at the clouds.

It was a peaceful friendship. If you could call it that. She liked to think of it as a friendship, actually finding comfort over annoyance when he called her troublesome. Her inner wild kid took it as a compliment.

She was a drag, company, and troublesome all in one. And that is exactly how she liked it.
