Chapter 1
Chapter 1
●●●
The first time Taehyung met Jimin and Jungkook, was quite the experience. His mother had taken him to the park to meet other children. He had just moved. New city. New people. Overall the whole experience had felt almost overwhelming.
He didn't like the idea of having to make 'new friends'. He already had friends, so he didn't get why he couldn't see those anymore.
Which was why he insisted to stay with his parents even at the park. He didn't want to meet new children... all he wanted to do was to get his parents to step back into the car and drive back to Daegu.
So he just sat there, frowning and staring into the distance, when he noticed two boys playing in the sandpit. They weren't talking to one another. Just playing next to each other without saying one word.
He watched as both of them kept glancing at the other like they wanted to ask him to join their game... but neither made the first step... until one of the boys, tiny with rosy round cheeks grabbed one of the toys the other boy was playing with.
For a second the other boy stared at him and then he just burst out into tears. The other boy panicked, putting the toy back down, but that didn't help. Tears kept falling and he screamed loud enough for Taehyung to hear it, who was still sitting with his parents.
Not really thinking about it he got up grabbing his own toys from where they were lying on the floor next to his mothers bag before jogging over to the crying child and the rosy cheeked who was sitting next to him, trying to calm him down, but failed.
"You can play with my toys if you want." He quickly offered dropping onto his knees next to the crying boy. The boy sniffed, looking at his toys before rubbing his snotty nose with one hand, the other hesitantly reaching for one of the toy tractors Taehyung had gotten for his birthday.
The tears finally stopped as the boy put the toy down and moved it over the sand. As if forgetting about the horror he had felt just seconds ago a smile blossomed on his face, the tears still making his cheeks shiny.
The boy next to him, with the rosy cheeks frowned looking up at Taehyung. "I didn't wanna make him cry..." he trailed off looking at the ground. "I just think his toys are really cool."
The boy who had just been playing with Taehyung's tractor looked up, mustering rosy cheeks for a couple of seconds before hesitantly taking the toy he had taken before and holding it into his direction. He quickly averted his gaze tho, never quite looking him in the eyes. "You play..."
Hesitantly the boy took the toy car. And the smaller boy smiled, revealing cute bunny teeth.
Taehyung hesitated. He really hadn't wanted to get to know anyone here... but he also had given his toys to the boy and he didn't dare to leave them alone again. What if they destroyed something?
"I... wanna play together?"
And they turned into that thing. Maybe not that kind of thing. The kind of thing children would have in kindergarten, where their parents just wouldn't shut up about just how cute those three looked rolled up against each other and how adorable the idea of them staying best friends forever was.
But it never moved past that stage. What they had was purely platonic, at least from their point of view. Taehyung was just very protective of his two best friends, especially Jungkook, who just couldn't seem to take care of himself properly. Not that Jimin or Taehyung minded. Something about Jungkook's hamster cheeks and bunny teeth just made it impossible to be angry with him, no matter how bratty he could be at times. And it could be a real piece of work to take care of him and do basically everything for him because Jungkook was just so used to his hyungs spoiling the shit out of him.
But it wasn't just Jungkook. Taehyung absolutely adored Jimin too. While unlike Jungkook Jimin could do most things on his own and always claimed that he didn't need their help in the first place, he also was the one that had once cried simply because Taehyung and Jungkook had been taking onto a trip by their parents and he couldn't be there. While Jimin tended to say he didn't need their affection... he always took as much as he could when he got the chance to.
Though showering Jimin with affection wasn't as easy as it was with Jungkook. Because Jimin would have rather died than admit when he felt down or just needed someone to cuddle with. He didn't like seeming weak. Some days Taehyung had to spend hours tickeling the information on what was bothering out of him.
The reason both Jimin and Jungkook loved Taehyung was pretty self-explanatory. Out of the three of them he was the only one brave enough to speak up when someone picked on any of them, he was always there for them and knew practically everything related to them. It was almost creepy how small things they had mentioned a year ago would come back up suddenly, like Taehyung was keeping notes on them. Usually only nice things though.
Any kind of information on what they liked, hated and cared about. Sometimes Taehyung even seemed to know shit like where they had put certain things. It was like Taehyung was using up all of his brain capacity to take care of the two of them. And of course Jimin and Jungkook liked that, both craving attention from their best friend.
Needless to say it was hard to seperate them. By the time Jungkook had turned five it had gotten so bad that Jungkook's parents had simply given up on having their boy sleep at home, even just one night, without Jimin or Taehyung by his side. He'd get all teary eyed and beg them to at least let him call them until he'd fallen asleep, so after a while they just allowed him to sleep over at Taehyung's or Jimin's place any time he wanted.
There weren't many big events throughout their childhood. There was no sudden 'this and that happened and then things changed'. They just got closer and closer until there was no space separating them anymore.
It was just daily life. Nothing too special, but each single one of their interactions was comfortable and sweet. Like one evening, when they were all lying on the couch at Jungkook's place, watching a movie and Jungkook suddenly got up. Both Jimin and Taehyung watched him in confusion as he crossed the room, grabbing a pen that was about twice the size of his hands before pulling a small book from one of the drawers.
"What are you doing?" Jimin was the first to get up and walk over to Jungkook, looking over his shoulder as the boy wrote something down in what turned out to be a notebook.
Jungkook looked up, grinning broadly. "My mum told me to write down what I'm doing whenever I feel happy because that way, when I feel sad or lonely, I can always go back and read it."
Taehyung got up too, walking over to where Jimin was standing, looking at whatever Jungkook had written. Jimin furrowed his brows, looking at the pages. "But that doesn't mean anything."
Just then Taehyung saw the scribble across the whole page Jungkook had just written on.
"It does." Jungkook insisted, crossing his arms over his chest before pointing at the drawing. "I write a lot about the things we do."
"What did you write here?" Taehyung asked, genuinely curious, pointing at the page next to the one Jungkook had just scribbled on.
"That was when we went to the park and they had all those elephants and you lifted me up and Jimin helped me catch that rabbit baby." Jungkook declared, tapping the page.
"You have nice handwriting." Taehyung complimented and he kind of meant it. While Jungkook's pencil strokes still were a bit uncoordinated, they were already better than his own. They looked cleaner.
While Jimin rolled his eyes next to him, muttering about how Taehyung never said anything positive about his handwriting, Jungkook puffed out his chest, smiling widely. "I have learned that all on my own." he bragged and Taehyung couldn't help squeeze his cheek. The boy was so precious...
"That's amazing." Taehyung praised before pecking the crown of Jungkook's head. The boy grimaced but let it happen. While he did enjoy affection, usually he only allowed it whenever he felt like it. And if he didn't he never missed a chance to point out that he wasn't a baby and then Taehyung usually said that of course he wasn't while Jimin giggled in the background.
"Let's go back to watching Bibi. I think we just missed my favorite part." Jimin complained next to them before grabbing both of their arms and tugging them back to the couch. Taehyung climbed on it first, then Jimin and after some contemplation Jungkook too, settling between Taehyung's legs. Apparently that day he did want that affection.
